It’s been a month since she came back into Daemon’s care. A week of fighting off the demons in her head because of that traumatic experience. Devon expected her husband to act like the way he is but to her gratefulness, he never left her side through the therapy sessions. He even took a week off in his schedule to be with her.
Joffrey is still alive but is confined in the hospital due to so much blood loss. Her parents did not communicate with her and just sent back her luggage.
But more than what happened to her in the hands of Joffrey, what exacerbated her mental pressure is the fact that Daemon is right all along. She did hide Emily. She planned their escape and now Emily is with Ariane whom she realized that it’s her friend that she trusted so much. She is born inside a mafia family and is married into one. Back then, she would not entrust her daughter to someone that is unreliable.
“So the Farrows princess is back, I see. I thought you wanted to remember your daughter but why are you back here now? Are you quitting now? What kind of a mother are you?”
She was not surprised to hear Maddy’s voice from behind. She already saw her emerge from her car while she’s on the balcony.
Devon continued drinking her tea trying to stay unaffected. “You have no right to say that because you were never a mother, Maddy.”
“It’s because you didn’t give me a chance.”
She turned to her. “What do you mean?”
Maddy shrugged and occupied the seat in front of her while lighting the cigarette between her fingers. “You tricked me and Daemon. I thought you’re pregnant with our kids but you were already pregnant even before the insemination. You agreed to be our surrogate mother but you were cooking your own sinister plan behind our backs. It’s a blessing in disguise that you lost Emily. At least she will not have a lousy mother like you.”
With the mention of her daughter, she just can’t take it anymore. She’s done being patient. Maddy has no right to say her daughter’s name using that filthy mouth.
“You bitch!”
She grabbed her by the hair and pinned her back to the wall and gave her a hard slap on the face.
“Unhand me! Now!” Maddy fights back but she’s defenseless against the raging fury of Devon.
“No, I won’t! I’ve been trying to hold back myself but I can’t do it now. I wanted to rip your face this instant!”
She twisted her hair in her hand and pulled a handful of strands.
Maddy looked at the amount of her hair in Devon’s hand and shrieked. “My hair! What did you do to my hair?!”
She smirked and threw it on the floor. “Suits you more, I see.”
Maddy’s face went berserk and attacked her. “You fucking bitch!”
In a swift motion, she picked up the glass on the table and smashed it against the wall. She then picked up a long slab and pointed it at Maddy.
“Come at me and get your face ready to be stabbed. I’m not joking, Maddy. With the state of my mind right now, I could really kill a person. You don’t have any idea how I suffer every night knowing I’m a mother to a baby that I know nothing about. I can’t remember her face and how her cries sound! I have to get her baby picture to imagine her face in my mind. I’m always in pain. It’s torturing me so much so how dare a mistress accuse me of being a lousy mother?”
The woman stepped back but the annoying grin remained on her face. “A mistress?! Huh! I was never the mistress in this relationship! Daemon has always been mine. He’s mine right from the very start.”
“You’re a delusional woman. Daemon is my husband and I am her wife! I am his Mrs. Druft!”
Maddy’s grin grew even wider. “In your dreams! We both know he’s just using you to get revenge on your father.”
That caught her off guard. “What?! What did you say?”
“Why?” she arched her brows at her and crossed her arms. “Isn’t that the reason why you planned to run away with the baby? Because you learned how Daemon planned to use you against your own family.”
“W-What?’ She recalled that fragment of memory that she recently remembered but she cannot ascertain if what she’s saying is true or not. “H-How did you know that?”
The confidence on her face intensified upon witnessing her confusion. “Because I know everything, Devon. I know his plan, his every step to execute it. He shares it with me because I am his real partner. You were just a wife to him on paper.”
“You’re lying. You’re obviously lying.” She placed a hand on her head when it began throbbing.
“How would you know that I’m lying when you can’t remember a thing?” She slowly stalked her until she cornered her between the wall and the table after snatching the glass from his hand and throwing onto the floor. “You want to remember what happened right? Then let me help you.”
Maddy held her head with both of her hands and smashed it against the wall.
“Now, you will remember it all.”
“What did you do?!”
Daemon’s worried voice echoed across the place but Devon couldn’t care less anymore. She fell onto the floor wriggling in pain as if her head was being drilled by countless knives.
“I didn’t do anything! I was just helping her!” Maddy fired back at the accusation.
A resounding slap shut Maddy up. Shocked and choking with tears, she can only look at the man she vowed to give her all.
“If something happens to my wife then I won’t ever be able to forgive you, Maddy. Mark my words! Get out of my sight! Now!”
Daemon carried Devon into his arms and ran downstairs, her blood oozing out from her head.
“Well Daemon, news flash. You told me that before but look where we are now. We’re still together. I’m still the only person standing beside you,” Maddy insisted when Daemon carefully laid me down on the seat of the car.
“That’s because I let you but not this time, Maddy.”
“I’m the only one you had.”
“Not anymore, Maddy. I have Devon now. I have my wife to stand by me.”
She can hear them arguing faintly in her head but it soon died down when the memories of that fateful day started to rain on her.
