Step one

She only slept for three hours but she woke up refreshed like she had never been in the past years. She quickly showered, shaved, lathered a lot of body perfume lotion on her body, and dressed herself with a pair of white trousers and coat she picked from the walk-in closet. She paired it with gold earrings and a vintage watch and bag.
Today is a special day for her. She’ll try to win that evil pig’s heart if he has one but if he doesn’t then his affection or desire would be enough for her.
“Good morning, Alice!” she cheerily greeted the chef who’s busy chopping tomatoes on the board.
Surprised by her enthusiasm, she smiled back at her teasingly. “Wow! What energy!” She surveyed her appearance which caused her to drop down the knife on the countertop. “You looked so good, Devon. Ready to cook another round of your husband’s favorite food?”
She let out a laugh that turned into a wince when she remembered how Daemon forced himself to eat the risotto but the frown quickly transformed into a giggle because he ate it all! delicious or not, what matters is the fact that he devoured her cooking.
“No. I’m here to ask you if Daemon already had his breakfast?”
“He doesn’t eat his breakfast here, just the dinner. He usually dines out with Maddy.”
Her mood turned sour at the mention of the woman’s name. Ah, why did she forget about the thorn on her way to Daemon’s heart? So it’s been his routine to have breakfast with his mistress? Devon decided that that would change starting from now.
“Oh really? Thank you for the information, Alice. I gotta go!”
She ran back upstairs to search for Daemon only to see him from the window climbing inside his car.
“No!” she shouted. “Daemon!”
With furrowed brows, he raised his face towards her and knotted his head when he saw her waving her hands like a flag. His armed men also looked up towards her direction. Henry just shook his head when he saw her.
“What?” Daemon shouted back.
“Stay there! I have something to tell you!”
Without waiting for his response, she ran back downstairs towards the gate where he was standing in front of his Mercedes Benz tapping his feet in impatience. A glint of admiration in his eyes crossed when he saw her.
“What?” he blurted out and averted his eyes, acting like he didn’t like what he’s seeing.
Devon smiled to herself. Hangover can wait but not her plan in impressing this evil pig.
“Can I tag along?”
“What?!”
Laughing softly, she playfully punched his arm. “Come on, Daemon. I’m so bored here in your house. Let me go with you to your work. I swear I won’t be a nuisance to you.”
“No,” he firmly refused. “You would definitely be a nuisance.” He glanced at his watch. “Look, I have a meeting to catch. Go back to the house. I’ll see you later.”
He opened the door to step inside but she tugged at his suit causing him to sigh hard and looked back at her.
“I don’t have time for this, Devon. Go now, please. You can go shopping if you want after Henry gets back.”
“I don’t want to go shopping. I want to go to you. Please, let me go with you, Daemon.”
She knows she’s acting like a child. It makes her cringe but if this could convince Daemon then it’s all worth it.
“No.”
She gestured towards herself. “Look at me. Don’t I look good?”
“Yeah, you look good. You’ve always look good but I failed to see the reason or the connection between your clothing and you coming with me.”
Rolling her eyes, she turned around to let him see her outfit more. “See? I look so put together. These golden hoops compliment my face. I am pretty and gorgeous, Daemon.”
He crossed his arms and nodded. “Yes, you are.”
“I can’t think of any reason why you’re ashamed of me. I’m telling you this because I don’t want to waste my effort on dressing up.”
Still, he is not sold to her idea. “Simple. No one should know you’re alive. Not yet. And to make the record clear, I’m not ashamed of you.”
“Then make them not see me. I’ll just be in your office for the whole day,” she tried hard to bargain even though she’s losing hope inside. This man is hard to crack!
“That’s precisely the reason why you can’t come. I know what you’re thinking.”
She quickly picked up what he meant. “I won’t escape. I promise!” She raised her hand for emphasis.
Daemon’s men chuckled in the corner but were silenced when Daemon sharply looked at them.
“Don’t even think of escaping,” he reiterated.
“I won’t.” Besides, you’re much more interesting than escaping, she thought.
His resolve is thinning as Devon stood there confidently waiting for his final decision. “What would you do there?”
Devon cursed silently in happiness. He’s giving in to her. “Nothing. I just want to see how you work. Do I have to cook your favorite food again to gain your approval?”
“Get inside.”
He pulled her back to his side and pushed her gently to the passenger’s seat. He also put on her seatbelt and closed the door before going around to take the driver’s seat.
She docks down to see him hold back his expression. “Are you that excited to bring me to your workplace? Hmm?”
“You are messing with me, Devon.”
“I’m not.”
“You are. Definitely. I can see you grinning.”
Biting her lower lip to keep her mouth together in a tight-lip, she denied his allegation.
“I’m not.”
Speeding up his car, Daemon can only shake his head in resignation. “What would I do to you, you little gremlin?”
“Oh shut up, you evil pig!”
Devon cannot contain her big smile after getting what she wanted. But as always, her triumph is temporary. The minute they step foot inside the Druft’s tower, Daemon was immediately taken by Maddy who just took a glimpse of her and proceeded to talk to Daemon, once again taking all his attention while she was completely forgotten on the side.
