Third person’s pov:
It was almost dawn and the atmosphere was cloudy as everywhere seemed mild, the omegas were seen running around the place serving food and drinks. Sitting at the dining table were Alpha Den, his family, Virginia, Nicholas, Derrick, and some other pack rank members. The aroma of the food was so intoxicating that no one dared to utter a word, the whole place was so calm that you could hear a pin drop. Derrick won’t deny that the food smells appetizing but part of him cries out for his mate.
“Welcome, Derry baby….” Nengi broke the once quiet room as she welcomed Derrick with a sultry tone. Derrick smiled at her with a small nod as he used the corner of his eyes to see if anyone noticed what just transpired right now but no one bulged as all their attention was focused on their food.
“Thanks…..” He replied to Nengi as he focused his attention back on his plate. The whole place went silent once again as they all concentrated back on their plate.
It didn’t take long before they were done with the food, and the omegas came inside and emptied the table before shutting the door on their way out.
“How was the journey?” asked Alpha Den to Derrick.
“It wasn’t an easy task, Dad…… but we all tried our best,” he answered back.
“We all know it wasn’t an easy task but we’re all happy how you guys pulled it through….” said the beta with Alpha Den budging his shoulder with pride like he was the one that went to the mission.
“Thanks….” Derrick acknowledged his compliment.
“So….. The rogues are all dead?” asked Virginia.
Derrick gave her a small smile before saying “Is not that possible that we are to kill all the rogues for some did no wrong, we couldn’t shed the blood of innocent beings just because of the wrong done by two or three people…….”
“That’s my son…. And this is the reason you did make a great Alpha,” his father growled with pride. Derrick locked eyes with Nicholas immediately after his father uttered those words and noticed his facial expression has changed, he clears his throat as he shifts uncomfortably on his chair.
“Umm……” Virginia forced a smile as she hit Alpha Den’s hand under the table to stop him from saying another thing as the atmosphere had completely changed.
“So what happened then……” the beta asked as he tried reducing the tension in the air and the gamma with his hand folded lay back in his chair and stared unpleasantly at Derrick.
“We pulled through with the help of the moon goddess…..” Derrick said though he saw the unpleasant look on the gamma’s face he ignored it and continued.
“We found out about the culprits, their hiding place, and even the disastrous plan they had at hand……” he kept going as everyone maintained quietness and heed to what he was saying.
“They have a horrible plan which they were to execute on the very night that we caught them though one escaped……. When torturing them they declared openly that they were working for someone in the bright moon pack,” He proclaimed.
“Umm……” everyone said in unison. “I’m not yet done, ” Derrick said as he scans the faces of everyone present in the dining room.
“You can go ahead…..” Alpha Den motioned for him to continue.
“We tried our very best to force out the information from their mouth but they refused, they would rather accept death than mention the person’s name,” he groaned in anger as he continued again.
“Finding that they were useless we slaughtered them since there was no point in keeping them alive,” he mumbled.
“No!!… you guys shouldn’t have killed them, I am damn sure more torture could make them say the truth,” Virginia said in a disapproving manner.
“Yeah….. that was our mistake but we were all frustrated,” Derrick said in a calm tone, he knew that he had failed them. Since they had a lot of trust in him but he refused to let them know the hidden secret about what he discovered during the mission.
“What about the escaped victim?” Lucien asked.
“We caught him……” Derrick countered.
“So any information … . did you find out about who the person they were working for is..” asked Alpha Den with a hazardous tone.
“Nope….. Still the same thing, he refused,” Alpha Den hits his hand angrily at the hand as Derrick finished talking, Derrick knew that his father is at the edge of allowing his wolf to surface and that’s why he has to lie to them.
He needs to find out about a lot of things and be sure before letting them know, enabling his father to be aware of this secret will result in a pernicious scene and besides, he wasn’t sure. From the information gathered from the dead rogues, they said that they were working for a ranked member of the bright moon pack, though they refused to mention the person’s name, and he conferred it upon himself to find their leader and director.
To know who among the ranked members could be so cruel as to do a thing like that, he refused to trust anybody as he all saw them as a suspect.
“You shouldn’t have killed them, you see now that they have been killed, what happened? How do we know who they were working for? You should have brought them here since you can’t torture them, and I am damn sure Nicholas would have done better than you,” the gamma who has been keeping quiet all these while blames Derrick for a mission failed as he said the last part in a mocking tone.
“You shut up!!…… how could you vomit that trash from your lips, instead of appreciating his effort rather you sat here to spit up scraps,” Mr. Peter the beta yelled angrily at the gamma as they both began exchanging words. Derrick stares at them both as he knows what the gamma was trying to do, he wants to humiliate him in front of his parents and everyone present while painting his brother as the nice one……… though his reasons remain unknown to him but he decided not to react.
“You don’t dare say such a thing again,” Virginia yelled at the gamma.
“I am damn sure that none of you could have done better,” she lashes out.
“Do you mean even Nicholas…..” The gamma sarcastically said.
“Umm…. I might that……umm,” She didn’t get to finish before Derrick jumped in.
“I’m sorry that I failed you all,” he mumbled with his head down, he knew exactly what the gamma was trying to do, to make it look like Nicholas was worthless like that they didn’t value him but he wouldn’t allow it.
He won’t allow anybody to destroy his family or jeopardize the relationship he had with his brother and as the whole issue was going on he noticed that Nicholas wasn’t happy at all.
“If getting the full blame to avoid this all thing from transpiring, then he is ready to do it,” Derrick murmured within him.
