Brian changed his shoes and then took off his coat and hung it on a clothes stand that stood on one side.
He went to the small bar in the room and poured himself a glass of red wine. Holding the glass in his hand, he opened the window and went to the large balcony in the open air.
Brian owned many real estate in G City, duplex, suburban villas, and apartments in downtown area. He would choose where to stay at night depending on his mood.
He liked quietness.
Most of the time when he was not too busy with working he would drive back to the villa he bought in the affluent suburb. If he had to deal with something in the evening, he would stay in the downtown. In this way, it wouldn’t affect his normal work of the next day.
Tomorrow was the Saturday, but he didn’t want to go back to the villa in suburb, instead, he stayed in this quiet duplex built in noisy downtown. For no reasons, he felt upset, in no mood to talk about other things.
As the night screen had hung down on the prosperous G City, Brian took a sip of red wine, and his deep black eyes cast a deep glance at the city which was as solid as a concrete forest.
Somehow, Brian felt a sense of unspeakable loneliness and desolation at the moment.
In this G City, he had enough money, power, and the status that all men had been dreaming about for a long time. Why did he feel lonely?
Was it just because he was still single?
Or any other reason?
Unknowingly, the woman’s gentle pretty face gradually emerged in his mind. Her soft voice seemed to reverberate in his ears.
In fact, during this period of time, no matter whether Brian was in company or not, he always inadvertently thought of that woman occasionally.
What the hell!
He admitted that she was so beautiful and charming that maybe any man’s appetency of conquest would be aroused as soon as they saw her. They might want to put her under their bodies and bang her like a beast.
Brian bet that any normal man who saw her will have such evil thoughts in their mind more or less…
He closed his eyes slightly. Once these thoughts had taken root in his mind, it was impossible to get rid of it.
Finally, he took out his cell phone and dialed Ben’s number…
No matter how hard she tried to force herself to fall asleep, Abby still laid wide wake. She helplessly turned over, wanted to continue to force herself to sleep by changing posture. Suddenly there was a flash of light in the dark.
It was from the table. It should be her phone. She remembered that she left her phone there deliberately before she went to bed. She turned on the silent mode for fear that late-night crank calls would wake her son up.
She got up to take her phone and glanced at the phone number.
She felt weird. It was a string of strange numbers, and the sender just texted her.
“Are you asleep?”
‘Who is that?’
Subconsciously, Abby thought the sender knew her. Was he Ivan? Thinking that, she put the phone down again, intending to ignore it.
But if the sender was Ivan, he would have long contacted her. He didn’t need to wait until now.
After a while, she edited a text message and sent it to the other side.
‘Who are you? ‘
The news went out like a stone dropped into the sea.
Having waited for a while, finally she was unable to resist the sleepiness. When she closed her eyes and was about to have dreams, the mobile phone screen lit up again, lighting on Abby’s slightly closed eyes.
She cast her eye on the phone screen and her sleepy eyes saw two words——
Brian Davies!
Suddenly her eyes widened round. She rubbed her eyes, afraid that she had mistaken something. When fixing her eyes at it again, the content of brief message was still the two words clearly.
‘How did he get my cell phone number? Why did he text me at the late night?’
“Mr. Davies, what can I do for you?”
Full of doubt, Abby edited a message and sent it.
This time, the time of waiting for reply was not as long as before. The message came in almost just a second.
“I can’t sleep.”
Abby was speechless.
‘Mr. Davies, can you disturb others in the mid-night and make them awake because you can’t sleep?’
After all, he was her boss. Abby nature dared not neglect him.
She got up, picked up the phone and tiptoed out the room.
She was afraid of waking her sleeping son.
“Why can’t you sleep?”
“I don’t know!”
In the stillness of the night, they were talking to each other about something meaningless.
The time had gone after one o’clock in the morning before they knew it.
Abby rubbed her eyes and yawned.
“Good night, Mr. Davies.”
When Abby had edited this message and was ready to go back to her room, she heard a flurry of footsteps from the stairs. She stood at the door and looked at the stairs.
A short while later, she saw Eva who was dressed up like a bad girl. Her hair on her shoulders was dyed the sallow color that young children love most at present. With her smoky makeup, she was like those girls who often go to clubs.
Eva saw Abby too. Her face flushed with drunkenness. She wore a scornful smile, walked toward Abby, “Oh, is this our eldest sister Abby Jones? Why didn’t you go to bed in the mid-night?”
Abby escaped from Eva who was getting close to her, for she only felt the booze on her breath disgusting.
“Eva, did you drink?” Abby was surprised.
Eva was young, but she came back so late, breathing alcohol fumes.
Eva shrugged, “Yes, I did. So what? Did I break the law? Besides, I can’t compare with you!”
There was a strong sense of hostility and contempt in this sentence.
“What do you mean?” Abby frowned slightly.
Eva spat and said, “What do I mean? I mean, Abby, mind your own business. Leave others alone, OK?”
Abby didn’t expect that Eva, who was just a willful and selfish girl, had changed into a mean girl in a few years. She totally didn’t behave like a daughter of the Jones.
What’s more, there was still something others in her words.
Eva rolled her eyes at puzzled Abby and walked towards her room with a smile.
She murmured while walking, “Who gave birth to an illegible son at the age of 18 dared to teach me a lesson. Who does she think she is?”
Although the voice was not loud, it was like a whip severely lashing on Abby’s body.
The hospitality these days were all false.
