Abby’s position was not high. She was just a translator, so her seat was far away from those senior leaders.
After the introduction of chief secretary Lily, the meeting officially started.
The staff took out their pens and wrote down important things on the paper.
The man, who sat at the head of the desk, pressed his lips. There was a trace of calmness light in his eyes. When his staff stood up and discussed work, he would smile at them appropriately to show politeness.
The man sometimes put his long fingers on the mahogany desk and lightly touched the desk with fingertips, which made people think he could effortlessly control all the feeling.
Abby imperceptibly looked at the man, thinking of all the tangles with the man.
She seemed to be obsessed, whether at work or at home, always remembered him. Although she had tried hard to control her mind, it still didn’t work.
Brian sat at the head, like the moon surrounded by stars. He seemed to be superior with all the external factors. But Abby was just as ordinary as anyone in the crowd.
She looked away, feeling an indescribable sense of loss.
Suddenly, she felt a pair of aggressive and scaring eyes fixed on her. She raised her eyebrows to look at it and then her eyes which were clear and cold like water bumped into Ivan’s scornful eyes.
“Miss Jones…”
“Miss Jones!”
Abby didn’t come back to herself until someone called her twice.
‘Damn it! How could I be distracted at this moment?’
Abby hastily looked away. When she stood up, she glanced gratefully at Ben, who was nearest to Brian.
The important documents were grasped in her hands. She secretly warned herself not to think of other things, must keep the meeting on the track without any slightest mistakes.
But reality was always the opposite. Maybe because of her high heels, or the wound on her knee, she seemed to be tripped over, staggered and suddenly leaned to the other side.
Fortunately, a colleague timely helped her, Abby didn’t fall. Nevertheless, as she propped her hands upon the table, the crystal glass dropped down with a sharp clatter.
The silence and seriousness of the large office were broken by this sound.
“What’s wrong with you? Which department are you from?”
A shrill, reproachful voice rose.
Luna stood up, her eyebrows raised, her face bristling with anger.
All of the eyes cast over toward Abby at once, which made Abby feel her body was shot holes by them.
“Miss Davies.” Lily stood up and walked over to Luna. “This is Abby, the new translator,” she said.
“Who hired such an impudent person?” Luna’s voice was sharp. She seemed to speak to Lily, but her eyes remained fixed on Abby’s face from the beginning.
“…” Lily paused.
“Miss Smith, are there anyone else in the translation department?”
“Yes!”
“Fire her. Go to the translation department and arrange someone else here.”
“Yes.”
Lily nodded, and then walked up to Abby. Her voice was also cold.
“Miss Jones, I’m sorry. I don’t think you are qualified enough for the post of translator in our company.”
This was definitely frame-up and drama!
Abby was not convinced!
She could admit that she was reckless, but it was clear that someone had set her up on purpose just now.
“Miss Smith, I can quit, but I want to make things clear. I……”
“Shut up.” Suddenly, the executive person at the head of the table interrupted her speech.
All of a sudden, everyone’s eyes were drawn to that direction of him.
The man who spoke was Brian.
Abby was confused. She didn’t know if the “shut up” was said to her. However, it seemed that, it really was.
Her eyes glowed with grievance.
“Miss Jones.” Brian raised his eyes and stared at Abby, who was clenching her teeth and tried to squash her emotions.
“Yes.” Abby answered.
“Did you hurt somewhere?”
When everyone thought their president was certain to rebuke Abby, but they only heard his words with concern. A ray of inscrutable doubt was across everyone’s heart.
“… No.” Abby went blanked. Later, she explained eagerly, “I was…”
“Since you didn’t hurt, the meeting can restart.” The man spoke in a commanding tone again.
“It was because…” Abby was still not convinced and she wanted to continue explaining.
“I said…”
Brian’s voice, like the sound of a cello, caught everyone’s heartstrings. His voice was emotionless, but it made people unable to make a refusal. “Since Miss Jones didn’t fall down, the meeting can begin.”
Abby was bewildered.
She hadn’t made it clear and found out who was trying to frame her… Why did he do that? Protecting his sister?
As if time stopped, Abby almost held her breath, clenching her teeth.
How could she swallow it?
Luna was euphemistically turned down by Brian. Even though she lost face, she couldn’t get angry because so many people were present. She winked at Lily. The latter understood the signal and went back to her seat. Luna also sat down without a word.
Ben got up at this moment, came to Abby, and said gently, “Miss Jones, there is no need to speak it out now. The meeting is so significant that it can’t be delayed with some reasons. I hope you can understand me.”
Ben’s gentle eyes gave her a glance.
Abby seemed to understand something, but she still had a grievance in her heart.
Brian had given her an out.
Thinking of that, Abby nodded, taking the document to the front desk, and began her translation work.
