“Now like I promised. It’s your turn. Ask.” I asked sternly. Fun time is over.
“Just those fake papers shouldn’t have been enough to make you doubt me. What else gave me away?” He glared.
“For one, Uncle Nick and Amanda were extremely uncomfortable around you and always glowered at you. You made the two most sweetest people who doesn’t hesitate to forgive infinite amount of times, to hate you. That was a dead give away. Plus the huge amount in Carol’s account. You shouldn’t have done that.” I shook my head.
“Black Jack is known to never leave any evidence behind. Yet you made it quite obvious that you were trying to deviate my attention towards Carol. When my clues had narrowed down on you two.” I continued.
“Now my turn. Why did you do all this? My parents were nothing but kind to you. Gave you home when you were homeless, and a great job when you were searching for a job for months in New York.” I asked.
This was the final question that was left to end all this drama.
He sighed seeing there was no way out. There’s no escape for him anymore.
“The moment I heard about your mom being adopted the hatred I had for her increased. I envied your mom. She had all the love from my parents just so that she wouldn’t feel left out.” He grunted.
Jesus! Another kid feeling missed out.
“So that’s why you killed her?” Amanda interrupted earning glares from the rest of us.
“Hell. No.” He exclaimed.
“Please continue.” I said.
“Unlike what you think I didnt hate her for long. It was during my high school. I was bullied badly for being the skinny kid, she being her usual stubborn self had protected me from them. It was then on I promised to protect her always. I would have lost my life if not for her. I owe her my life.”
“Irony, how you decide to take hers instead.” I retorted.
“Should I continue?” He asked.
“Go on.” I nodded.
“I only wanted her to be safe and happy and I was willing to do anything but then your dad came.”
“She was happy with dad.” I fumed.
“Why do you think they shifted to New York?” He gibed.
“Because you created problem in the company.” I stated.
He laughed. “The precious company your dad had created backfired at him. He was under piles of legal issues.”
Yeah, I had heard about the company initially facing many legal issues regarding helping people illegally.
I remember dad telling about how everything started. Dad and uncle Nick had seen many people being denied by the law and they wanted to help them the best they can. And when they saw law was not on their side, they had turned into illegal side while protecting those in need.
Originally they had suffered a lot of legal issues because of this, but when the mayor saw the benefits of this organization he decided to help them. Plus being their friend helped not only them but him as well. The moment he became the mayor he wanted a crime- free city. And this organization had made sure everyone’s problems and issues were solved.
My dad being the best hacker and uncle Nick being the best lawyer had further helped the organization to raise to the fame in later stage.
“Seeing my sister under constant stress because of your dad, I knew I had to do something.”
“The best solution was to get rid of the problem.” He smirked.
Seeing his gloating face, all I wanted to do was to slap him right there and then. But not wanting to give him the satisfaction of riling me up I kept a poker face on.
Which got him irritated. Now that made me satisfied.
“Why did you kill aunty then?” Amanda asked.
“I didnt kill her.” He hollered.
“It was because of your dad.” He hissed.
“Yeah because he wanted her dead.” I snarled.
“He should have said no when Nina insisted on joining him. By the time I got the news that Nina was in the car too, it was too late. All because of him.” He bellowed.
“So I guess you were happy once they were out and you got to use that chance to destroy many more lives.” Ryder commented.
“They deserved it. If those low lives didn’t trouble Nina she wouldn’t have had that fate.” He yelled.
“Still staying on the blaming game huh.” I sighed.
I got up and turned to Ryder and nodded at him. He handed me the gun.
“Since you have properly thanked them for helping you reach from homeless to millionaire, I guess I should give you a chance to properly thank them once more on your way to hell.” I pointed the gun towards him.
“Wait don’t you want to know-” I pulled the trigger silencing him forever. No more escaping from the hundreds of lives he is responsible for.
“Wait he was saying something.” Amanda pointed out.
“Everything I wanted to know was told. I am 100% sure it must be another one of his nonsense to prolong the inevitable.” I stated.
“What if it wasn’t?” Carol asked still looking at the lifeless body of Nathaniel with pained expression.
“Then he takes it with him and one day, maybe he will share it with us when we are there.” I said.
After removing the fingerprints from the gun with a towel, I placed the gun on Nathaniel’s hands.
I know Ryder’s team and now the Black Jack team is well capable of removing all the evidence.
Still why take chances. I looked at Ryder as he went to make calls
I walked towards Carol and turned her to face me.
“You know as well as I do, he is capable of manipulating us into thinking, him living is better than his death. Which is absolutely not true since god only knows what more trouble he could bring upon us.
Anyways, that must have been what he was trying to say. It’s the usual statement people in movies give before dying. Don’t ponder over it. It does you no good. Believe me.” I said making her see the truth rather than the made up truth that her mind conjures up with.
It’s crazy how our mind makes us believe absolutely nonsense.
“I will ask my driver to take you home to your family.” Ryder stated before gesturing to Martha who came along with Mark, his driver, after Ryder called them.
He must have called Martha knowing the lawyer in her is capable of talking Carol out of believing whatever her mind has made up. After they left. I watched how the team has made the place clean before Ryder called Neo to handle the legal side.
Did this end too fast? Maybe, it might be because of Ryder’s perfect planning, plus it did end perfectly for us.
Even if Nathaniel did nothing but hurt them. For a period of time even through all those pretending moments of his, I had believed him.
How he took care of me, during the funeral preparations, after breakup, during the drug withdrawal period. He was there.
And for those period of time even after him accepting the fact that he had pretended, I believed it was out of some kindness left in him.
That now watching the clean up. It hurts.
It’s crazy how one moment one mind can be like he’s bad but then next moment after some supposed to be good moments it becomes he’s good.
