*Kat’s POV
“What a day huh!” Amanda said as she dropped down on the bed.
“Yeah, the past few days feels like few months have gone by.” I said as I too dropped down on the bed.
After lunch, we helped my grandparents in setting up the living room for a movie and game night. Though, by 9 I began feeling extremely tired and called it a night followed by grandpa and grandma. Except for uncle, he said he had work to do and would be late.
If I wasn’t dead tired I too would have been in front of the computer, not for work but for continuing the searching that I haven’t done in 2-3 weeks.
During the breakfast, I had planned out how I would have be spending the day. Spending time with grandparent, then later at night with my dad’s laptop. But now my tiredness has ruined all my planning.
But the moment my body hit the bed, I no longer was complaining.
“I did absolutely nothing today. Yet I feel like I have done some heavy lifting job.” I sighed.
Even through tiredness, I noticed how Amanda got tensed by my words, but she relaxed instantly as if she remembered something.
“What is it Amanda?” I asked sitting up.
“Oh! It’s nothing. I thought I forgot to give you the medicine when you mentioned about your tiredness.” She said, though it was clear there’s something she’s hiding from me but I didn’t want to push her for it. If it’s something I should know I would.
“It’s just the side effect of the antidote. You were emotionally spent today, adding to the overload your body is taking now.” She continued.
“Because of drug right?” I asked.
“What?” She asked confused.
Either pretending to be dumb or is truly confused. The answer I would never know.
“You were talking about drug overworking my body right?” I asked again.
“Yeah. Yeah” She said quickly. Though I could clearly see the relief in her eyes.
Seeing how worked up she is over this topic makes me want to know more.
Yet I have a strong feeling I shouldn’t be knowing about it now. It might make my plan detour more.
“Anyways. So you told me about the antidote but you didn’t mention why its wasn’t shown on the test yet I got it’s side effects soon after.” I asked, now I made her even tensed. As if I have hit some point for knowing the answer to my curiosity.
Though it was funny to watch how quick her relaxation and tensing is, it makes me all the more curious.
“The antidote acts both for masking the drug and reducing its effects. But it’s effects stays only 12-24 hours. Plus, the effect of the antidote decreases when your emotional stress is high.” She said.
“Did you become a doctor overnight? Where did you get all this from? Neo brought it?” I asked.
“When your friend gets into trouble and falls ill you tend to become a doctor right then and there. And yes, Neo brought it. Neo had instructed me about the drug.” She replied to which I laughed while she playfully glared at me.
Soon I both sobered up. “Thank you.” I said solemnly “not just for helping me with the drug, but for protecting me from those officers both the times they came, also for helping me during the withdrawal of the drug. For everything.”
“You don’t have to. I only did what you would have done for me.” She smiled, to which I nodded.
“Now coming back to why we are here before you made it awkward with your confession.” She snickered earning a pillow smack.
“Did you find the person behind your parents death.” Amanda asked.
“No. Between all these I forgot to ask Uncle what he meant when he said, ‘that’s why I called you home’.” I said
“Did you get any more clues.” She asked.
“Not from dad if that’s what you are asking. But I thought about all the letters dad had send. And the one thing that struck me was him saying not to trust anyone.” I replied.
“You think it’s from the family again?” She asked.
“Yes. According to the contract of BlackJack. The co-owner should be, one from Black family and one from Jack. And since your dad’s still here, we clearly got who’s Jack.” I replied.
“And Mike is Black.” She quipped in.
“That’s what I originally thought, but when he said he didn’t create the accident that killed my parents I realised he’s just there for the name, masking the real master mind.” I said.
