*Kat’s POV
He’s here? I opened my eyes to look around to see Amanda dozing off, sitting beside me.
I sighed. It was a dream, yet felt too real. I do miss him.
Amanda nodded off again but only to hit her head on the side post.
“Ouch!” She whined.
“Got a big bed yet you chose to sleep like this.” I croaked out.
“Kat! You are awake?” She exclaimed.
“What? I slept off another 3 days?” I croaked again. “Can I get some water?” I asked.
“Here you go.” Uncle Nath said while bringing me our food.
“Why is it every time others find you awake before me?” Amanda whines yet again trying to distract herself or others. I don’t know.
She must have been scared.
I cleared my throat as I felt the water flowing down the pipe.
“You are sad that you couldn’t do anything before others instead of being happy that I am conscious? How cruel?” I whined dramatically once my throat no longer ached.
“You know what I meant.” She said before taking the tray from uncle to set it on the table.
“Don’t worry. I didn’t know. I just came in on hunch.” Uncle said while seated beside me.
“How are you cupcake?” He asked while patting my head.
“Like someone is pressing my head from all sides.” I said as I reached in to get some more water.
“Eat. It might be because you haven’t had anything after the lunch yesterday.” He said while reaching towards me to massage my head.
Feels too good.
The way he massages reminds me of Ry-
Nope. Not going there.
“Nathaniel!!” came a scream from downstairs.
“What’s going on?” I asked to which he shrugged.
–
“Just a small test and you can be free.” The police officer said.
The reason grandma had called uncle down was to tell about the officers waiting outside the door.
They were here for me.
“Weren’t your test already done?” Amanda asked.
What test is she talking about? Is it the conversation I heard when I had been in coma?
“We got information again about the drug. If you don’t cooperate, we have the right to arrest. The same goes to those protecting her, it’s obstruction of investigation.” The officer said again.
“Is it on his ‘information’?” I asked ;looking behind the officer to see Ryder leaning on the car.
Wasn’t his mission to get me out of New York? If so, he have already achieved it. Now what is he doing again?
The officer too looked behind him and sighed, “The data about the informant is confidential. It’s not important, what’s important is whether you have taken drugs or not.”
“Are the officers these days doing house checking’s to see whose taken drugs or not? If so the city must be very clean.” Amanda responded.
“Amanda enough!” I stopped her before she gets into trouble.
Seeing the way the officer keeps looking at Ryder its of no doubt that he brought them here. If he could sue Mr. Simon despite the agreement not to, he could do the same with Amanda with or without her objection in my testing.
“Conduct the test.” I said to the officer. I showed the officer to living room while he and his partner set the table with some tubes and needles.
They wrapped the band around my arm and drew my blood.
“All done. Thank you for your cooperation. Your guardian will know the result by night.” The officer said before they left.
“You guys stay here.” I told to my grandparents, Amanda and uncle Nat before I left them in the living room to see him.
This talk has been long overdue.
I came out only to see Ryder still leaning on the car looking at me as if he had been expecting me.
“You couldn’t get Mr. Simon into jail so now you are trying to get others into jail as well? You knew Amanda would react given how much you guys used to fight for even the tiniest things.” I grinned sadly over the memory.
What I would give to have those times back.
