Two week later
* Kat’s Pov
The sky has been dark warning everyone for a huge downpour, yet hasn’t rained for 3 hours now. Flocks of birds were flying, more like running away to find a safe place somewhere. People are running around to find a safe shelter from the upcoming rain. To me all of it felt like a warning for upcoming storm in my life.
I have no idea what made me feel that but those are the only feelings inside of me now.
“Earth to Katherine Marshal” yelled Amanda in my ear.
“Ow, Mandy!” I whined.
“You deserve it for ignoring our attempts to bring back the Katherine Marshal that we know of.” snickered Richard, who earned a slap on his head from me, causing his coffee to spill a little on him making Amanda laugh.
” You two really need to clear whatever misunderstanding there is. Ryder is exactly like this. Half the time absentminded, the other half searching for someone to torture.” said Raven while handing a tissue to Richard. It was sickeningly sweet to watch the two of them together.
“Sounds like someone we know. Yesterday she almost made one of our co-workers cry just for accidently bumping into her, ” remarked Richard earning a glare from me to which he just smiled. And one more person has entered into my blacklist, which is so full that I can’t remember who all I have added into it .
“There’s no misunderstandings between us. This is just everything being so understandable that we cant stand each other now. More like it is he who cant stand me now.” I said the last sentence under my breathe.
The past two week has been my personal hell. Everywhere I turned there were things that made me remind of him. Be it florist (the first time I saw him after 3 years), ice-cream shop, malls, anywhere.
The first week I had just spend it by crying and looking up at the ceiling when my eye had been dried out of tears and my brain had been tired of thinking. That week the only time I interacted with people was when Mandy had brought me food or water to my room, and when uncle Nathaniel had come to visit me. But after seeing no response from me he said he would visit me after 1 week to force me out of the room. I had not listened to the last part so I was a lot surprised seeing both Mandy and uncle Nath all dressed up and with just one expression, Mission: get Katherine out of her room.
They were a force not to be reckoned with, hence with a lot, and I mean with a LOT, of hesitation and whining was I willing to go with them. We went to all my favourite spots: beach, mall, ice-cream parlour. But all those places were covered with memories of me and Ryder or just me and my parents. And as bizarre as it sounds sometimes i found even the complete strangers who passed by me to be part of those memories.
At last after realising getting Katherine out of her bedroom wasn’t much of a success, except for the part that I am out, they had put a stop to persuading me to get out of my about-to-cry state. The last spot was at a park, which was a place I am very familiar with. Both Ryder and I used to visit parks at time just for fun time and also for reminiscing the time we had met for the first time. The day Ryder was the knight in my shining armour, who stood for me against the boy who pushed me off the swings, who would have literally got into a fight with him if not for my father who stood between the boy and Ryder. The mention of my father and how he advised Ryder, quickly got me out of my thoughts. Poor dad, he had spend so much hours for both Ryder and me, to teach us the codings and also many life lessons which we thoughts were just one of many ramblings from my father but little did we know how much it would be true in our adulthood.
I sat in one of the bench and stared at nothing in particular but easily was again lost into my thoughts. Realising none of their plans have worked they finally let me be as I was and went to get all of us ice-creams, it was just their excuse to let me be alone. I feel sad for them that all their efforts had been in vain and also felt pity for me for not being able to get out of this reverie.
Couple of children shouting got me out of my thoughts. I looked towards the source of the noise and saw a boy in a fight with another boy while a girl was sobbing. I quickly ran towards them and broke them out though I did get a punch from the boy.
“Ow, that hurts!” I exclaimed covering my cheek.
“I am so sorry ma’am I really didn’t mean to hit you.” The boy who hit me said with tears in his eyes. He was trying his level best to not let the treacherous tears fall down, but one tear had escaped and the boy tried to hide it.
Soon the boys and the girls parents came over and asked their children what happened. I moved back and was planning to back out, only if their parents didnt make this children’s issue into their adult’s issue.
“I was swinging on the swings but that boy wanted to be on the swings too and I told him to wait for his turn but he couldnt wait and pushed me off the swings and it was Lee who helped from that bad boy.” The girl wailed.
“Is this how you are raising your children to be? A bully? That too against a weak girl?” The woman that appeared to be the girl’s mother shouted while her husband stood silently behind trying to keep his wife shut.
“My son had asked her to move, I am sure he must have asked several times, it was her impoliteness that made my son do so. If she was as weak as you had said, maybe you should teach your daughter to be obedient and listen to what my boy had said so she wouldn’t have been pushed off.” The bully’s mother had retorted.
Okay here we go.
“Mom I didn’t-” started the bully but was shushed by his mom. He too had tears in his eyes. Maybe he must have realised his mistake and only if his mother had not taken this as an insult to her ego, he could be taught to not be a bully in future.
While both the ladies were in their fighting zone the boy’s, who name the girl said was lee, parents were holding the boy back from getting into further trouble while keeping themselves quiet. As the other parents should have, and only intervened when it was absolutely necessary.
“Maybe you should let your children solve it by themselves.” I intervened. That was a mistake. HUGE MISTAKE.
Both of them turned to me with their eyes widened and I could almost picture smokes coming out of their ears.
“Who are you and how dare you speak to me like that?” asked both the ladies unanimously.
“I-”
“She is my niece.”
