Chapter 52 Happy Birthday to You

Book:Indulged In Love Published:2024-5-1

With a book related to the architecture in her hands, Nora was reading quietly. She didn’t even notice it when Kingsley walked to her side. Nora was just like this. Once she was immersed in something, she would be oblivious to the surrounding environment.
Kingsley watched her quietly. Seeing that a strand of broken hair was falling in her cheek, he felt itchy, raised his hand, and put the broken hair behind her ear without much thought.
It was only then that Nora came to her senses and turned to look at him.
In the early autumn, Kingsley was dressed in a thin white shirt with the collar buttons unbuttoned. As he was slightly bent over, his collarbone with a delicate and perfect arc was revealed. His cuffs were loosely pulled up. And the look in his eyes was no longer as profound as usual. His lips were with a shallow joy, which was not yet obvious.
Kingsley’s tone was gentle, which was rare, “Why did you go back home so early today?”
Nora closed the book in her hands and said indifferently, “Well, I am off work early!”
Kingsley could clearly feel her indifference and didn’t get annoyed as he mildly said, “Are you hungry? Go down and have dinner.”
“I’ve eaten something outside. I’m not hungry.”
Kingsley looked at her dodging eyes and knew she was lying as he said, “Go down and have dinner. I see that Rachel has cooked a table of food.”
In fact, he wanted to say that it was his birthday today and Nora should have dinner with him. However, as the words were on his lips, he said other things instead.
As Nora was about to say that she wasn’t hungry, her stomach growled indisputably. She was angry as well as shy and squeezed her belly with one of her hands tightly. Then she insisted, “I’m really not hungry. And I’m going to take a bath first.”
As soon as she got up, Kingsley pulled her hand and said in a deep voice, “It is my birthday today.”
His words hit against Nora’s eardrums. And she suddenly had a sour nose for a moment. She opened her mouth and said extremely awkwardly, “Happy birthday!”
When they were downstairs, Rachel looked at Kingsley and was hesitant about telling him something. Although Nora was sad in secret, she did not want to spoil Kingsley’s mood since it was his birthday today. In the end, she went to the kitchen, cooked a soft-boiled egg, and took it out. Then she placed it in front of him and said, “My mother used to cook me eggs to celebrate my birthday. And now I cook one for you, wishing you a happy birthday. ”
Kingsley was stunned for a moment. Then he took it over, “Thank you!”
Nora pursed her lips and smiled. She couldn’t feel gloomier today. Looking at the man’s face, she was in a trance. She felt that somewhere in her heart suddenly became sour and powerless at this moment. In her opinion, Kingsley was like an unpredictable abyss and attracted her towards him inexplicably. However, once she was close to him, she would be in a dangerous situation. If she was careless, she was likely to be doomed.
Kingsley drank a mouthful of soft boiled egg and said, “I haven’t eaten this for almost ten years.”
When he was little, his family would gather together to celebrate his birthday. Although his mother didn’t know how to cook, his father would cook him a bowl of sugar eggs, which were sweet and delicious. Although he was an official second generation, his parents educated him strictly and wouldn’t allow him to waste things. And his family conditions were similar to those of ordinary children’s families.
So, he didn’t understand how his honest and righteous father would become a corrupt and imprisoned criminal overnight.
There was a touch of profound sadness between his eyebrows. Nora was somewhat enlightened and suddenly said, “If you like it, I’ll cook it for you every year from now on!”
“Every year? Does she plan to spend the rest of her life with me?”
Kingsley smiled and said, “Good.”
Nora purses her lips and bowed her head. And the corner of her lip slightly curved up.
Falling in love with someone was such a humble thing. Even if Kingsley had made Nora feel sad a second ago, Nora would still fall for him as long as he happened to show a little bit of tenderness for her.
This was the feeling of loving someone, which was bitter as well as heartbreaking.
From the beginning to the end, the two of them didn’t mention Rosaline Woods’s issue. Neither of them spoke first.
Kingsley thought that she didn’t care about it much.
And Nora, on the other hand, didn’t want to say anything to make herself feel even more upset.
In fact, Rosaline Woods was sort of Nora’s sister. Even so, Nora didn’t like this sister at all. Instead, she hated her so much.
She remembered what Caesar Woods had said vaguely. According to him, Kingsley would get engaged to Rosaline. And it was probably just a matter of time for when it could be done.
All she could do was live the rest of her life in peace and treat Kingsley a little better so that the time they had been together would not become a resentful past when they were separated in the future. And in the years to come, Kingsley had to remember her and remember that there was such a person in his life that had treated him well whole-heartedly.
Kingsley finished his meal and prepared to go upstairs to the study to deal with his work. Then Rachel rushed out as she was packing up her things, “Sir, hold on!”
“What is it?”
“Sir, it is your birthday today. In fact, Madam spent the afternoon making a cake for you. But when she brought it back, surprisingly, it was ruined. Actually, it was just that the flowers on top of the cake were a little bit battered, the cake was edible. But Madam said that she didn’t want it and insisted on throwing it away. I don’t understand what happened. She seemed to be in a very low mood when she came back.”
Kingsley approached the kitchen and saw the cake in the garbage can. He could still see the words “Happy Birthday! Mr. Baxter” on the cake vaguely.
He pursed his lips, “Did she say anything when she came back?”
“No, but the cake was ruined like this, making her feel very sad. She seemed to have cried. And she was not in a very good mood. After that, she stayed upstairs and didn’t come down.”
Rachel knew that she should not make any comment about this couple’s matters. However, she thought that if this young couple couldn’t be honest with each other and always misunderstood and argued with each other instead, their relationship would be greatly affected.
The look in Kingsley’s eyes was as profound as the dark night outside where no light could be seen. He stood where he was for a while and said, “Clean it up.”
As he went upstairs to the study, he passed by Nora’s room. Looking at the glimmer of light revealed from inside, he was in a bit of a trance and didn’t understand his feelings.
It was not that he didn’t like Nora. It was just that he couldn’t get over that hurdle in his heart. Facing a girl who was desperately trying to be nice to him in order to get money from him, he should dislike and discard her by all means. However, he found that it was getting difficult for him to get rid of this feeling of being flattered, of which he wondered the reason.
After he turned 18 years old, he had gone through various affairs, knowing that what people would do everything for their interest’s sake. Despite the fact that Nora was playing up to him for her benefits, he still wanted to see her smile. It seemed that her smile could warm up his blood and heart which went colder and colder.
In the end, Kingsley lifted his feet and entered the study on the side. Then he opened his laptop and started working.
He came back from Mindanao at the age of twenty-two. With his first capital, he turned the stock market upside down. Then he entered into real estate and founded the Rivertown Group, making himself become a new and dignified businessman of City A. After that, he was as busy as a bee and never had time to take a break.
As he was reading a document dedicatedly, his cell phone on the side rang. As he saw the area code of the caller ID, he found that it wasn’t a domestic number.
Kingsley frowned and swiped his cell phone.
“Dude, happy birthday.” There was a low and magnetic male voice over the phone.
