Chapter 32 The Bidding Session

Nora hadn’t seen Kingsley for a couple of days, and had lived as a “single dog” (single person) again.
The session was on Thursday.
It should be a small pre-selection before the official tender. After all, not all the companies had the qualification to participate in the hotel design of Rivertown.
And it was hold in Building A of Rivertown’s headquarter of which the design won a world-class architectural design award. Nora couldn’t help exclaiming that it was really an outstanding and perfect design when she saw the twin tower building in the car.
The Rivertown Group’s security system was extremely strict. Nora received her conference badge after three security checks at the gate, and there was another security check at the doorway of the conference room before entering.
Looked at the uniquely shaped badge in her hand, Nora admired this design. With the Group’s logo on it, it was concise and elegant.
Including Nora there were five people sent by the company to attend this session. She felt herself would just be a bystander to be here. However, it was hard to refuse Shawn’s request, and it would not be wise to offend others as a newcomer.
Given that Kingsley hadn’t done anything to her as she had stayed at Karina’s for a few days, she thought perhaps she could stay there. And she could discuss with him that she would go back when he needed her to coax Anna.
Then when Kingsley met his true love and did not need her anymore, they would divorce peacefully. If only he could be generous to forgive all the debts she owed him.
But this kind of thinking was usually called whimsicality. Someone later would tell her how naive her idea was.
The bidding session began at 9 am, senior executives of Rivertown Group were making their speeches and Nora was taking some key points on the notebook with her pen.
During the intermission, Shawn turned to look at Nora, “What are you writing?”
“Some information which I think important, such as the design concept of this hotel.” Nora smiled, feeling a little shy.
Shawn didn’t speak. He glanced at her and thought what a silly and earnest girl she was. At this time, Spencer turned around and said, “Nora, could you go outside and buy a few cups of Frappuccino for us? It is quite a hot day.”
As a newcomer in the design department, running errands and that sort of thing was inevitable. It was break time now, but it would be a bit far to make a round trip since the meeting room was on the top floor and the Starbucks was across the street.
“Forget it, Spencer!” Shawn said, “Isn’t there mineral water?”
“It’s okay. I’ll go downstairs and buy them!” Nora stood up, “Frappuccino for everyone, right?”
Spencer didn’t think it would be unkind to boss the newcomer around. Anyway, he didn’t need to pay her to run errands, so why waste it? He took liberty of nodding to her, “Well, I will transfer the money to you later!”
Nora walked out of the meeting room. Although she felt a little unhappy, given thought of the current situation, she didn’t have the right to fuss about it. She’d better just buy coffee obediently and maybe it would be better if she became a regular employee after probation period.
It was indeed awkward for a newcomer that just came into workplace, and she would have to endure it for the time being.
She took the lift to the first floor. The Starbucks was on the opposite side. She felt a blast of hot air hit on her face as soon as she walked out of the building.
Under the scorching sun, Nora bought five cups of Frappuccino and put them into two big bags. They were quite heavy because there were ices in the drinks.
She went back through the security checks again before entering the building. After all of that, fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead, but it was inconvenient for her to wipe it and could only neglect it.
She walked to the elevator and pressed the button while carrying the Frappuccino, only to find that it didn’t work no matter how she pressed it!
