Nora was immersed upon her own thoughts and didn’t notice Kingsley’s arrival.
Mayor Jones was giving an inspiring speech in the news, Kingsley was also looking at the TV coldly, but said nothing.
The news anchorman kept praising Mayor Jones on the TV. Kingsley frowned suddenly and he turned it off. He said impatiently, “Don’t you think it’s too noisy here?”
Nora was surprised by the man’s sudden arrival. She answered honestly, “I think it’s alright!”
“But I think it’s too noisy!”
By this time, Nora had realized that Kingsley was angry. Although she didn’t know the reason, yet she still chose to be silent.
Kingsley was a fickle man, and the safest way to get along with him was to say nothing.
It was around six in the evening now. Nora’s belly grunted for a while. She had only eaten a bowl of porridge at noon and was hungry already.
Kingsley took out a lunch box that could keep the food inside warm. He put it on the table, and said coldly, “Eat!”
Nora looked up at him and asked, “Did you eat?”
“I did!”
Without saying anything else, he turned around and was about to leave. All of a sudden, Nora caught sight of a red scar on the back of his hand, which was obviously a recent wound. She asked, “What happened to your hand?”
Kingsley raised his hand and said carelessly, “Just a minor injury, not a big deal.”
Last night when he brought Nora to the hospital, he accidentally ran into a sharp object in the parking lot, but since he was holding a person in his arms, he didn’t pay too much attention to it. It wasn’t until he arrived at the hospital that he found the wound to be deep and was even bleeding.
“Have you bandaged it with medication? It would be terrible to leave scars!”
Kingsley’s hands were slender and white, with the joints well distinguished. If a scar was left on his hands, the overall beauty would definitely be ruined.
“You’ve talked a lot!” Kingsley’s tone was emotionless, but a bit of softness was hidden within if one listened carefully.
He sat down on the sofa and began replying to text messages.
Nora opened the lunch box and said bluntly, “A light meal?”
As soon as the words came out of her mouth, she regretted it. The lunch box was brought to her by Kingsley. How dared she remain so picky. She should have been more careful with her words.
“You are sick. A light meal is good for you. What do you want to eat?” Kingsley raised his eyebrows and asked. His tone rose as he said the last few words.
“No, I mean, a light meal is good enough.” Nora answered with a guilty smile.
After a while, Kingsley’s phone rang, and the call reminder showed that it was Vivienne Hall. He answered the phone without avoiding Nora.
Nora glanced at Kingsley: his eyes were calm, a smile was on his face, and he looked very gentle overall.
She guessed it was a call from Vivienne. Otherwise, he wouldn’t look so gentle.
When he hung up the phone, Nora put a smile on her face and said, “You are free to go if you still have something to do, I can take care of myself.”
Kingsley was not so happy even when she became so sensible. His slender fingers rubbed on the surface of the phone, and said coldly, “You texted me a message to remind me to visit you. Now you want me to leave after just a few minutes. Is that how you play hard-to get?”
Nora was nervous about his misunderstanding, and explained, “No, that’s not what I mean. I thought you were busy, and I don’t want you to be late for your work.”
Kingsley was unsatisfied with what she said obviously, but he didn’t say anything else and said, “Call me if anything comes up.”
“No problem!”
Kingsley walked out of the room. Suddenly, Nora stopped him, “Wait a minute!”
