Nora almost spat the milk out of her mouth.
What were his eyes made of? Or was he just too good at reading people’s minds?
She was embarrassed, totally blushing with shame.
Kingsley put down the spoon in his hand, with a faint smile on his face, “What? Are you feeling jealous?”
Nora was dazed for a second, and looked up with her most sincere smile, “Not at all. Vivienne is a beautiful actress with remarkable acting skills. You should get me her autograph another time.”
Kingsley humphed without saying a word.
At that very moment, his cellphone rang on the end table.
Kingsley gave Nora a look. She hurriedly stood up and fetched his phone for him.
The caller ID showed it was Vivienne, which made Nora slow down a little bit. She called him in the early morning! What a woman! But she pretended to be calm and smile, “It’s Vivienne.”
Kingsley nodded. He took the phone from her hand and answered.
Vivienne asked in a seductive and soft tone, “Kingsley, are you going to the ball tonight?”
“Yes, I’ll be there later.”
Kingsley hung up the phone, staring at Nora and said emotionlessly, “I’m going out in a minute.”
Nora was cheering inside, but she managed to stay calm. She bit her lips and thought for a moment, then she asked, “Are you coming home tonight?”
Kingsley took a thorough look at her with sharp eyes. He didn’t answer the question, and gave her a debit card, “There is a hundred thousand dollars in this card. Take it as my compensation for what I did to you last night. Also, Stay away from my business!”
What did he mean? Did he think of her as a prostitute? Nora felt humiliated. But she couldn’t care too much about her dignity when it came to money. So she just pursed her lips and expressed her gratitude, ready to reach for the card.
Kingsley looked at her with great despise. Then he swung back his arms and threw the card on the ground, leaving the house.
Nora was so angry that her whole body was shaking. She stood still until the sound of slamming door brought her back to reality. She got down and picked up the card. Kingsley really did his best to humiliate her. Maybe that was just why he’d marry her in the first place, just to humiliate her more often.
Nora didn’t get up until her legs were both numb. Her eyes were filled with tears. If she really had a choice, she wouldn’t have had to live like this. She wanted to live with dignity, liberty and ambitions. But the outrageous medical bill at the hospital told her to surrender to the reality. Therefore, she chose to tolerate, no matter how Kingsley treated her.
Maybe one day when he got tired of her, or the love of his life came back to him, then this game-liked marriage could finally come to an end officially.
Towards dusk, it took Nora a while to find a beautiful long-sleeved azure dress in the closet, which could cover most of the bruises on her skin. As to the red marks on her neck, she decided to tell people that those were mosquito bites.
When she was putting the dress into her handbag, Karina’s car arrived at her home.
Karina was driving a red Infiniti to the exquisite real estate that Nora was living in . She couldn’t help but complained as soon as she saw Nora, “The security guards are so annoying! They wouldn’t let me come in unless I showed them my license.”
Galaxy Estate was the most expensive real estate of City A, which was developed by Rivertown Group. And Kingsley was the CEO of Rivertown Group.
Kingsley had been a legend throughout Nora’s youth for the whole time. He was five years older than her, and they went to the same school together. They knew each other but they were not too close. He had been Nora’s secret crush for a very long time. It was ten years in total, from the beginning until nowadays.
