Chapter 49
“Alpha, what are you trying to do?” Kevin asked. After everything that had happened and after what he had done to those ladies, he still wanted to go and roam outside. Was he not afraid of relapse and that someone might actually see him?
“What am I trying to do?” Kelly asked with a raised eyebrow. “I said that I need to go and see someone!”
“But alpha!” Kevin was not sure what to say. Sigh, he has really aged and his life was continuing to reduce with each passing day.
“Don’t worry. I know what I am doing.” Kelly said. Although he had an assured look on his face, Kevin did not fully trust him.
Just as Kelly was about to leave, a messenger came in panting while holding a special item in his hand. When Kelly saw what it was, his expression changed slightly but it soon returned to normal.
What the messenger was carrying was a special communication tool that could be used by the alpha to send a message to another alpha.
“Alpha…… Alpha….” the messenger murmured as he tried to catch his breath. He had really exhausted himself by running at such a high speed.
“What is it?” Kelly asked. Kevin took the tool and handed it to Kelly. He could not open it even if he wanted to because he was not the alpha.
“It is from alpha Matthew, the blue blood pack leader.” The messenger said.
“Alpha Matthew? That one alpha who hates my brother with all his guts?” Kelly asked.
The messenger nodded. The feud between Ashton and Matthew was not a secret between the pack leaders. Kelly had heard about it and that is why his respect for his brother had become even more solid in those days.
‘If he had only appointed me as his beta, none of this would have happened.’ Kelly thought as he tore open the special tool which contained a well-sealed letter in it.
Kelly opened the letter, and the bloody words on it made his heart turn cold. He knew that the man was up to no good. But what did he take him for?
His words were too arrogant that Kelly felt like punching him in the face.
“What is wrong?” Asked Kevin after noticing that something was not right with Kelly’s expression.
“Take a look.” Said Kelly and handed the letter to Kevin. Kevin took the letter and the more he read, the more his expression turned ugly.
“What the heck!”
“But who does he think he is? My brother defeated him in the past, and I am going to defeat him in the present.” Kelly ordered coldly. His eyes were bloodthirsty and his lips curved into an eerie smile.
“Are you trying to say that you want to accept this challenge?” Kevin asked.
“Of course. Isn’t he looking down on me? How can I tolerate that?” Asked Kelly. He was the new alpha of this pack. Although he was not a born and true alpha like Ashton, he was still powerful.
He had even defeated his legendary brother, what was there to be afraid of? If he did not want to live in his brother’s shadow, then he had to do more than what his brother had done.
“Accept the challenge for me!” Kelly said to the messenger.
The messenger nodded and after doing ninety degrees bow, he left hurriedly.
“Kelly, this is not child’s play. First, you are not sure of your condition! What if something similar happens? What will you do?” Kevin inquired.
To be honest, he was truly tired.
“You accepting the challenge is not up to you alone. You need to have the consent of the pack elders and the pack warriors. And don’t you think that you are putting the life of the whole pack at risk?”
“A lot of members have already left the pack and you now only have a handful remaining, if they all die because of your carelessness, then who will remain for you to lead?” Kevin talked until his mouth ran dry, and even blisters had formed but Kelly did not listen to him.
He still had on his haughty look and the ‘I don’t listen to anyone; I will do whatever I want to do attitude!’
Seeing him with his nonchalant gaze, Kevin was incensed and immediately left. He could not communicate with someone who was arrogant and who refused to listen to anyone.
Kevin arranged to meet with the pack elders. There was no way he was going to allow Kelly to mess around with the lives of everyone. Their pack was weak now and there was no way they could stand another attack.

At the blue blood pack, Matthew looked at the letter from the ash band pack and smiled maliciously.
As expected, everyone from that line of the family was arrogant. He knew that given Kelly’s character and how he would like to keep his pride, there was no way he would turn down his request.
The darkness in him surged and he almost could not hide the excitement in his body. He was finally going to avenge himself for all the humiliation that he had suffered. He was finally going to get back his pride and earn his respect.

It has only been two days since the challenge was issued but the news had spread like wildfire. Now everyone knew that the ash band pack and the blue blood pack had challenged each other.
Those who had suffered at the hands of Ashton were excited and they could not wait to join in the fun. But there were some who were still rational about the whole thing and decided to watch from the sidelines.
They did not want to side with anyone because they did not know what the outcome of the battle will be.
The elders of the ash band were so mad when they heard the news that they almost died from rage.
“Insolent! Insane! What does he think he is doing? Doesn’t he see how weak the pack is now? Is he really itching for a fight that much?” The elders talked among themselves.
“Elders, I am counting on you to talk some senses in him! There is no way we can fight given our pack’s condition. The people have started to panic and others are secretly leaving the pack. The Northern and Western borders are defenseless because our warriors could not risk their lives knowing that they will die.” Kevin said.
He had gathered the elders with so much difficulty, in hopes that they can help in persuading Kelly to forgo his stupid idea.
“The pack is almost deserted but Kelly doesn’t see that. All he wants to do is fight.” Kevin added.
“Kevin, tell us honestly, what happened the other day?” The elders changed the topic, catching Kevin off guard.
“What day? What are the elders talking about?” Kevin asked. He was only dazed for a moment before he came back to his senses. He asked the question without giving anything away.
“We heard that your alpha was found in the woods lying unconscious on the ground. There was blood all over and he seemed to have killed someone! But unfortunately, he said that he did not remember anything, can you tell us what happened?” The elders pushed for an answer.
“Yes, Kevin. We were informed that you were the one who found him first. Is there something that we need to be wary of? Is something going on that we are not aware of?”
“No. There is nothing to worry about? The alpha was just exhausted from everything that he had been going through. He went for a hunt but he could not contain his exhausted mind and body anymore, so he fainted.”
“You also know how it had been hectic for him. From having to bury his grandfather to taking care of the pack, he had been under a lot of pressure. He only wanted to have a relaxed moment hunting, but he ended up fainting.” Kevin said.
He was glad that he was quick with his thinking, or else any slight hesitation from him and the elders would have become suspicious.
“What about the bodies that were found not far away from your alpha? How could you explain that?”
When Kevin heard the question, he almost fell from his chair. Who said these old foxes were easy to fool? It is like they wanted to sound him out and see if he could be able to tell them the truth.
“What bodies?” Kevin asked. He was gaze was curious that the elders felt like he might be telling the truth.
“There have also been reports indicating that several dead bodies have been found in the woods over the past two days. We have been trying to investigate but we have not found anything yet!”
“Has this already come to the alpha’s attention?”
“Yes, elders. Rest assured, the alpha is working extremely hard to find out who the monster is. We have a lead that we are trying to follow and we might have some good news soon.”
