Chapter 48
After dinner, Ashton, Maya, Theo, and Eliphas discussed what their next move would be. After having a deeper understanding of what had transpired, Ashton already had a clear action of what to do in his mind.
He did not want to delay too much, as that will only make his brother strengthen the pack, although, in reality, he was not afraid of him. What he feared most was implicating the innocent because from what he understood of his brother, he would go to any lengths to make sure that he does fail.
Ashton did not want to kill anyone innocent and only wanted those who are guilty to be brought to justice.
“Uncle Eliphas, what do you think will happen to Kelly after he killed grandfather?” Ashton asked. Kelly thought that killing Gael was the same as killing any other wolf.
He forgot that Gael stood above the masses and was not just your everyday wolf that could kill him and remain unscathed.
In ancient times, Gael would have been an alpha king given just how long he had been in power. He was the patriarch of the pack and not just anyone would lay their hands on him.
As for Kelly, there was a price he had to pay for his actions. He thought that killing Gael would grant him more power, but little did he know that it might be the end of him. The power that Gael carried could not be wielded just by anyone.
Kelly was like an ignorant village peasant who thought that killing the king and putting the throne on his head will grant him the power to become the next king.
“As far as I know, killing someone who was once an alpha might lead to someone losing his mind or even dying. That is the case if the person who made the move is not a true alpha. If it had been you who had killed your grandfather, it would have been beneficial to you since you would have gained more power.”
“You are a born alpha, and you killing another alpha, would have made you very powerful. But your brother is not even an alpha. What your grandfather did was just to announce him in front of the pack and give him the family heirloom, but in the real sense, Kelly does not have any alpha power within him.”
“I am pretty sure that someone might have told him that if he killed the old man after being named alpha, he will be more powerful, but they lied to him. This only applies if a true alpha kills another alpha. That is only when they can harness their power.” Eliphas explained in detail.
“So, you mean to say that even though Kelly killed patriarch Gael, he did more harm to himself than good?” Maya asked.
“That is right. And if he is not careful, he might even turn into something unrecognizable. Something monstrous.”
“Theo, you said that you have been in touch with some of the pack members who managed to escape?” Ashton turned to his beta and asked.
“Yes, Alpha. There were some whom I escaped with but we lost each other in the woods. My thoughts at that time were just to find you, so I did not go after them. And then there were some who refused to bend to Kelly’s will and because he was afraid that if he killed too many of them will arouse suspicion from pack elders, he decided to banish them.”
“They are now scattered all over so I have been trying to gather them together. But I have to be careful. Kelly sent a lot of search parties to look for your whereabouts and they might be among them. I have to be careful and make sure that I don’t reveal anything concerning you.” Theo said.
“Good. Continue gathering them. Once you have gained a considerable number of them, you can test them by saying I am alive. If there is nothing suspicious, then I will meet them.” Ashton said. He was not afraid of anything or even afraid that Kelly will know his whereabouts.
What he did not want was another sneaky attack behind his back. If Kelly was a real man, he wanted to face him head-on so that they could have it fair and square. “Yes alpha, I will do as you say,” Theo answered.
……..
At the ash band pack… Kelly had regained his senses after having been given a jab by the pack healers. The pack healers tried asking what had happened but Kelly only had a blank look on his face like he did not understand what was going on.
They looked at Kevin, but Kevin shrugged his shoulder, indicating that he knew nothing. He was also curious but there was no way he was going to tell these people that
Kelly had just killed his pack members. He had already helped him get rid of the bodies so only those who had accompanied him to look for Kelly knew what had transpired.
Kevin was sure that they will not dare to breathe a word of what had happened to anyone since they were Kelly’s most trusted and loyal subordinates.
Kevin looked at the irrelevant people in the room and signaled them to leave. He had to have a conversation with Kelly as soon as possible.
Kelly had already returned to his usual self and he did not seem like someone who had lost control just a moment ago. The moment the pack healers left; his blank look was replaced with an arrogant one.
“Alpha are you alright?” Kevin asked in a concerned voice. He was still nervous from the fright that this spoilt brat had given him.
“How do I look to you?” Kelly did not answer directly but asked another question with a haughty attitude.
Kevin cursed him under his breath and almost blew his top. ‘What was wrong with him? Was it really difficult for him to answer such a simple question? Besides he was only worried about him!’
Kevin restrained himself from swearing out loud and put on a stiff smile, “do you not remember what happened?”
“What happened? I don’t understand what you are talking about!” Kelly looked at him with a sharp gaze, sending chills down his spine. Kevin broke into a cold sweat and did not dare meet Kelly’s sharp gaze.
It seemed that Kelly remembered everything but he had just been playing dumb. But why would he do that?
“Why would I do that, huh? Why would I play dumb?” Kelly asked Kevin’s question out loud.
“Why would I pretend like I did not remember anything that happened when I am the one who did it?” he inquired again. Kevin knew that there was nothing he could hide from him and bowed his head in defeat. Every thought of his was exposed by Kelly.
He was just worried about him and wanted to help. Was it hard to understand? He always thought that he was different from everyone else and Kelly saw him in a different light, but now he needed to evaluate his importance in this man’s life.
“What do you think people will think of me after knowing that I lost control and killed my people?” Kelly asked.
“I know you will understand that it was not out of my own will but not all of them will understand. you know that there have been people plotting against me, and if they happened to learn of something like that, don’t you think that they will not hesitate to use it against me?”
“Sorry alpha, I had not thought everything through. But believe me, I was just worried about you since I also thought you did not remember anything.” Kevin bowed. Although Kelly was his junior, he was now his alpha, and no matter what he had to be respectful to him. He wanted to be powerful and make a name for himself but it also came with a price.
The uncle-niece relationship had long been abandoned.
“But honestly, I don’t know what came over me. I felt like I had been possessed by something and all that I wanted to do was to have a taste of fresh blood! I had this urge to destroy everything and if those women had not left, I would have attacked them right here!”
“What happened? I thought that you wanted to have some fun but just after a short while, I saw those women leaving and they were scared shitless.”
“I told you that I don’t know what came over me. When they came near me, all I could smell was fresh blood. I only wanted to pounce on them and suck them dry.”
“I think we are safe for now. I will go and make sure that no news spreads. You can have some rest.” Kevin said and prepared to leave.
“I am fine. I need to go and see someone.” Kelly said. The look in his eyes became excited all of a sudden. It seemed like the person he was going to meet was someone special to him.
