Chapter 45
When Ashton woke up again, it was almost the evening of the following day. They had unknowingly slept for over eighteen hours. With his head still groggy from the sleep, he looked at the sleeping princess beside him and felt that his dream felt so surreal this time around.
In the past when he had those dreams in his coma, Maya would always disappear like a gust of wind before Ashton could even touch her. He would then shout at her to not leave him but Maya would always vanish.
She was like a beam of light that shone in his life but only for seconds. It was like she was teasing him on purpose.
He always felt that his world was shrouded in darkness, and whenever that beam of light shone, he would try to hold on to it but no matter how much he tried, it would always disappear as soon as it appeared.
He was on the verge of giving up on life and just letting the darkness consume him, but every time he thought about it, there seemed to be this sweet voice by his side that always whispered in his ears. It was sweet and encouraging and every time Ashton heard from it, he always found himself pushing through the darkness, even if he was being teased by the only source of light in his life.
Ashton looked at Maya and felt that it was the most beautiful and hypnagogic dream he has ever had. Her face was so real and even her breathing was so real. He did not wish to wake up from this dream forever.
Just as Ashton was feeling giddy and ready to go back to sleep, someone called him into his mind which startled him awake.
“Alpha!”
Why would someone call him alpha even in his dreams? If he remembered correctly, he has always been alone and every time he fought through, he would always feel like his body is bound by unbreakable chains and he was surrounded by ferocious beasts that wanted to end his life.
They are always having this beastly expression that even Ashton who has seen so much of the world would always tremble in fear at the sight of them.
But this time around, why did the voice feel like he was actually in some magical world? The beasts were nowhere to be seen. Ashton tried to move his other hand that was not hugging Maya and realized that he was not bound by any chains.
He let go of Maya and walked out of the room in a daze only to be met by his beta’s anxious expression which was also filled with happiness.
“Alpha, you are finally awake?” Theo inquired with a tinge of excitement in his voice. He almost went over to hug him but stopped in his tracks when he saw the lost look on Ashton’s face. He seemed to be half awake as he looked around him with a curious gaze.
“Err, uncle Eliphas, what is happening to him? Why can’t he respond to me?” Theo scratched his head and asked uncle Eliphas who was watching such a rare scene playing out in front of him.
“He just woke up so he might think that he is still in his dreams. He is wondering why his dreams feel so real this time around. It must have been hard on him when he was in a coma.” Eliphas said after assessing the situation.
“Then what will happen? Will he fall back into the coma?” Theo asked in a worried voice. The initial ecstasy that he had felt after learning that Ashton had regained consciousness was now filled with worry and heartache. He has never seen his alpha in such a state and it broke his heart.
He vowed that once Ashton was better, they were going to make those bastards beg to be returned to their mothers’ wombs. He will spare no one as long as they lay their hands on his alpha.
“Just let him be, he will snap out of it eventually. I have never seen someone with such a strong will live as this man. His father had once told me that Ashton will one day break all limits and that he will never give up no matter the situation he was in. thinking about it, I think that old man had seen far more ahead than what anyone could ever imagine. He must be a proud father wherever he is.” Eliphas said in a sentimental voice.
They said that werewolves and witches cannot interact, but that was not the case for Ashton’s dad and Eliphas. They met under unusual circumstances which led to them becoming best friends. They fought hard to remove the barrier between them but Eliphas never expected that the old man would actually not spare even his son’s life just to keep his pride.
Since then, what Eliphas could do was to make sure that Ashton was safe and growing up well. He felt that the little rascal would be the key to reuniting their two worlds and he might even make the impossible happen. He was tired of living such a lonely life and he wanted to interact with people.
Just as Eliphas had said, it wasn’t too long before Ashton snapped back to reality. When he saw his beta standing not too far away, Ashton immediately went over to hug him. Theo was so touched that he almost cried out loud from the happiness that came quickly.
“You survived?” Ashton asked.
“Yes alpha, I survived,” Theo answered.
“That is good. We thank the goddess!” Ashton said. He was emotional after seeing one of his favorite people the moment he woke up.
“Alpha, how are you feeling? You have been sleeping for a long time, you must be tired!”
“I feel great. I have never felt this good in my entire life. I don’t feel like anyone who has been sleeping for a long time.” Ashton said.
Hearing him, Eliphas gave out a knowing laugh. The moment he woke up, he jumped on his mate like he was going to devour her whole, how could he not feel good after waking up? His beast must have been greatly satisfied.
“Uncle Eliphas!’ Ashton called out. He thought that he was dreaming when he saw Eliphas in the room earlier, but it seemed that it was all real.
“You are finally awake. I told you not to do anything vigorously and you actually did not listen to me. I thought that you will slip into another coma.” Eliphas said.
“Uncle, you like teasing people nowadays. It is not fun at all.” Ashton said, but his eyes were filled with happiness. He really looked lazy like a satisfied beast who has just had his most admired prey.
After greeting them, Ashton immediately went to find Maya. The wanton actions that they did before they fell asleep the previous day replayed in his mind. He had actually thought that he was dreaming, but as it turn out, it was all real. They had really done it.
His footsteps became light and he almost ran to the chambers where they had slept. He could not wait to roll around in bed with her for the second time.
“Look at how springy he is walking. Poor Maya, I wonder if she will be able to get out of bed for the next few days.” Eliphas said. Theo was embarrassed on behalf of his alpha. The more he stayed with this old man, the more he realized that his skin was so thick. He would make fun of you without batting an eye.
Ashton entered the room and went straight to the bed. He touched the covers but there was nothing in them. He was shocked because when he left, Maya was lying right beside him. Where could she have gone in such a short period of time that he had been outside?
He had not seen her leave the house. Ashton frowned and as he was about to go and ask Eliphas and Theo whether they had seen her, he heard a muffled cry coming from the room’s washroom. Ashton immediately rushed over but the scene that greeted his eyes made his heart ache so much.
Maya was squatting in a corner and crying as she mumbled something. Her shoulders were shaking and her cries were heart-wrenching. Ashton immediately bent over and hugged her in his arms.
“I can’t go on anymore. I thought that yesterday’s dream was real but when I woke up…… no! I don’t want to live anymore. I want to get reunited with him. I don’t have any more hope left. Please just let me go!” Maya cried.
Ashton hugged her even tighter. His girl was hurting and he was the cause of all of IT. What was he supposed to do? Why did he have to sleep for too long and make his darling worried? He was a bastard who deserved a beating.
“Shh…… it is okay now darling. You don’t have to go anywhere. I am back. I have come back.” Ashton consoled patiently. He was not a patient person, but with Maya, he showed his most patient and gentle side.
