Chapter 39
At another pack leader’s house, a man was smiling from ear to ear after hearing the news from his informant.
“Did I not tell you that that little brat was too arrogant for his good? Now, look at the disgrace that he has brought upon himself.” The man said with a thin smile on his lips. He was in such an excellent mood that he could not prevent a whistle from coming out of his lips.
“But alpha, don’t you think something doesn’t add up here?” His intelligence personnel asked.
“Whatever adds up and whatever doesn’t, it is none of my business. What I know is that the arrogant little man has fallen and it is time to show his pack who the boss is.” The man said in an arrogant voice.
He was called alpha Matthew and he has been Ashton’s rival for a long time. He claimed that Ashton was just an arrogant brat who did not know the meaning of being an alpha.
He had once challenged Ashton and claimed that Ashton was a good-for-nothing alpha who depended on his family legacy. Although he was as old as Ashton’s father, he did not mind challenging his junior because he felt that teaching Ashton a lesson was something that he was supposed to do.
He had wanted to teach Ashton a lesson and tell the whole world that Ashton was not worth their respect. He could not stomach how people respected and fawned over Ashton wherever he was. ‘What legendary alpha’, it was all nonsense. He thought that without his family, Ashton would be good for nothing little wolf.
Thus, he organized an alpha meeting and challenged Ashton. But instead of gaining the upper hand, he was beaten green and blue and at that moment, he could not tell whether he was dead or alive. It was only later that he learned what had transpired from his beta. He was beaten until he lost consciousness and it was his beta who had carried him back to his pack.
Instead of teaching Ashton a lesson, it had been the other way around. Since then, Matthew had not shown his face in any of the alphas’ gatherings.
He had been humiliated by a young boy in front of his friends and his trusted subordinates and from that day, the hate that he had for Ashton had increased tremendously. His friends had started to distance themselves from him and he had not had peace of mind since that day.
He had vowed that he will one day make Ashton pay and hearing the news that he was now a fugitive, Matthew could not be any happier.
Every little humiliation that Ashton had made him go through since that day, he was going to make sure that he avenge himself. All those who had laughed at him for challenging a young boy are going to see him in a new light
Since that day, he has never raised his head whenever he saw his fellow alphas. And whenever there was a meeting that had Ashton in it, he would never show his face.
Had been leaving with this humiliation and it was time he cleared his name. He was going to make sure that the ash band pack is annihilated and there is no more alpha Ashton.
“Call all the pack warriors. I want them to prepare and in less than a month, the ash band pack will only exist in history.” Matthew told his beta.
“Yes alpha.” His beta answered. He had been there when Ashton had defeated his alpha and he knew that his alpha had never gotten over the fact that he was humiliated by a junior.
He knew that he resented alpha Ashton with all of his heart and he had been waiting for the right opportunity to teach him a lesson.
Although they won’t be facing Ashton head-on, eliminating his pack would also be good. The beta could not hide how excited he was as he left the room to pass the message to the pack warriors. It was time to avenge his alpha. His blood boiled as he itched for a fight. It had been a long time since he had a bloody fight and he could not wait.
….
At the wind winders’ pack, when Mark heard that Ashton was now a fugitive and his pack was looking for him, he was shocked.
‘How did the legendary alpha that everyone trembled at the mention of his name become a wanted criminal?’ it did not make any sense no matter how Mark thought about it. Actually, he had never met Ashton in his entire life and only heard of him from his father. Although they were almost the same age, Ashton had accomplished much more than he could ever imagine. The first time he was going to meet him was when they held the summit but Ashton had not shown up until the meeting came to an end.
His beta had said that he was held up and thus the alphas’ meeting had been done without him although he was the highlight of the whole meeting.
Mark was already an alpha and he had already marked Lily as his Luna. His attempt to look for Maya had been fruitless and he had forced himself to give up.
All the traces had been cleared and no matter how he tried, he always came back empty-handed. His concern for Maya had made him almost end his relationship with Lily because she could not take it anymore.
She did not understand why Mark was so hung up on finding Maya when she was right beside him. It was only after Maya left that she realized that Mark did not love her even for one bit. He was not even willing to share the same bed with her like in the past when Maya was still around. He had only married her because his parents had insisted and also because he was the daughter of his father’s beta.
She was glad that she had sent that bitch away, or else, she did not know what would have become of her if Maya was still in the pack.
“Alpha, I think we might have found Maya’s whereabouts.” His beta, jay said.
“What did you just say?” Mark as he stood up suddenly made the chair behind him produce a screeching sound. His heart thumped in his chest at his beta’s words.
“Some months ago, on the day that we hosted the alphas’ summit, alpha Ashton saved a woman who had been thrown into the lake and was drowning, that is why he did not show up at the meeting and only his beta did.” Jay, Mark’s beta reported. He was also shocked when he heard the news and he immediately rushed to inform his alpha.
“And I am guessing that woman must have been Maya whom we have been trying to find for a long time,” Jay said.
“Do you remember alpha, when we followed her scent, it led us to the lake. We thought that Maya had committed suicide by throwing herself into the lake. We have been trying to find her body but to no avail. If not for your insistence that you wanted to see her body before you believed that she had died, we would have stopped searching a long time ago.”
“I told you Maya would never kill herself. It was clear that someone did all of these! But who could it be? Who would dare harm my people right under my nose?” Mark asked. Although he had some suspicion in his heart, he did not dare go in that direction.
He knew that if what he thought was true, then he might do that unthinkable that would leave him regretting it for the rest of his life.
“From the information that I have heard, she is now Ashton’s mate and she is on the run with him,” Jay stated.
“How did it become like this? How did Maya become Ashton’s mate? She had not even transitioned to a wolf when she left the pack. What would someone like Ashton need a Luna that had not shifted even for once?” Mark fired a series of questions at once.
His mood was in turmoil and he did not know whether he should feel happy that Maya had been found or sad that her life was in danger.
