Maya knew that whatever was written on that piece of paper was beyond their expectation. Ashton had never given out such a terrifying aura since she got to know him.
This was the first time Maya was seeing the blood thirst and murderous Ashton. Although his aura was terrifying, Maya was not afraid.
He was so angry that his fingers had already elongated and the fangs had already started to show.
His ears were also growing and his body was becoming more and more fairy.
His spinal cord was protruding and his shirt had started to get torn.
It was an indication that his wolf was also angry and he wanted to wreak havoc.
In the past, although Ashton had faced a lot of enemies and he had almost lost his life countless times, he has never felt the strong urge to kill. Even his wolf could not stand the betrayal.
He has always gone by the motto of severely injuring the enemy until they could not attack again but this time what he wanted to do was to kill directly.
He could hear the screams of people as they were mercilessly slain without being given a chance to defend themselves.
He wanted to destroy everything and everyone that had dared to betray him and attack his pack.
“Whatever it is it is not your fault.” Seeing that he was on the verge of losing control of his emotions Maya had no idea what to do. She could only mind link with him and say a few comforting words.
She has always known that Ashton was like a god and nothing will ever be able to faze him. That he was an emotionless legendary alpha who would never be shaken up by anything.
Even when the sky was falling he would never bat an eyelid but Maya immediately knew that her assumptions had been wrong.
Ashton was a human and a wolf. As a human, he had emotions and the people he cared about and as a wolf, he was the leader of the pack. Everyone looked up to him and depended on him for protection but now he could not even protect his pack as their alpha, how could Ashton not blame himself?
When Ashton heard the familiar voice in his head he seemed to remember that he was still with Maya. In the past, he had always faced everything on his own without anyone by his side so he was kind of not used to it when someone consoled him.
Ashton rearranged his emotions as he calmed his beating heart down.
He also calmed his mind that seemed to be in a maze and his body also returned to its original form.
He folded the paper and shredded it into pieces using his hand. He then turned around and faced Maya.
Everything on him had returned to normal. Maya could not even associate him with the man who was about to go berserk just a moment ago. It seemed that everything was just her illusion.
She also marveled at how first Ashton had calmed himself instead of going to find the enemy first. He was indeed worthy of other people’s respect.
“It’s my fault,” Ashton said. He was not mind-linking instead he was talking using his real voice.
“I shouldn’t have abandoned my pack as a result, allowing the enemy to attack,” Ashton said.
“I said it’s not your fault. If you hadn’t saved me if you hadn’t insisted that I’m your luna if you hadn’t insisted on taking me to the northern mountains to see uncle Eliphas none of these would have happened. If someone has to take the guilty here then it’s me.” Maya said as she looked at Ashton.
“I made you abandon your pack without a second thought because you wanted to help me rediscover myself and the price you had to pay were you losing your pack!” Maya said.
She was indeed feeling very guilty. If she had fought those people at the wind winder’s pack and did not allow herself to be thrown into the lake, then Ashton wouldn’t have rushed over to save her and the two would not have crossed paths.
She would have become a loner wandering all over the world and Ashton would still be the legendary alpha with his pack intact.
But because of her, he had lost everything.
Was she really worthy of all the sacrifices that Ashton had made? Was her life really jinxed and nothing good would ever come out of it?
“Who dare says that it is your fault? Show me and I will fight to death with them.” Ashton said as he hugged Maya with a domineering attitude.
“I am the one saying it. If you think about it carefully then it is true.” Maya said.
“When you first brought me to this pack everyone was pointing their fingers at me and saying all the nasty things about me. But you protected me and made sure that none of their words reached my ears.”
“Since I came to this pack you have been going against your morals time and again because of me. You even left behind your whole life just so you could make sure that I am well. Ashton I feel so bad.” Maya said between the sobs.
“Believe me everything is far from being your fault. You are my life, my whole pack. Ever since my parents left my life has been hanging aimlessly in the air. I had no one to point me in the right direction.
I had to fend for myself and had to fight my way up. I wanted to be the most powerful person on earth. I thought that after being the most powerful person on the earth be it as a wolf or a human I will be able to deal with my insecurities but that was not right.
Even after defeating all my enemies, I could still sit in this study room from dawn to dusk missing my parents and asking the moon goddess why she hasn’t brought the chosen one for me.
But I still had to fight for my pack and make sure that they were safe. Everyone saw me as an alpha. Someone who could not be defeated easily. No one cared about my difficulties. They only cared whether they were safe in my hands.
Until you appeared Maya, my luna, my queen, my darling. My heart finally found rest and I felt that I could finally land safely. You gave me warmth, you gave me a home, and you made me feel wanted and treasured. I did not want to be greedy and ask for more. I could only thank the moon goddess for returning you to my side.” Ashton said. He has never talked this much in his entire life. He was used to giving orders and not explaining himself.
But for Maya, for his life, he was willing to do anything.
“So stop thinking that it is your fault. It is none of our faults.”
“It is the fault of those people who covert what they can’t get. You have no idea but you might have actually saved me. If I had been in the pack it would have been easy for them to do something to me and I would have long died.”
“Don’t worry about the pack. With you, by my side, I can start all over again. I built this pack with my two hands and I can build another one and another one.” Ashton said as he consoled Maya.
Maya could only hug him tightly. How could this man be so good?
He had experienced a life worse than hers but still stood out on top.
Compared to him, her childhood had been way better. Although she did not have her parents or a real family she still had someone who cared about her.
Someone who had made her childhood worthy of celebrating.
But what about him? He had no one to hug him and tell him bedtime stories.
He did not even have anyone to correct him when he made a mistake.
He was all on his own in this cruel world of wolves.
Maya hugged him tight. She wanted to give him all the warmth that she had so that he could not feel lonely anymore.
She wanted him to know that he was not alone anymore. He now had someone with whom he could share his difficulties. Someone with whom he could share his burden.
As the two were embracing and giving each other warmth, Ashton, with his sharp senses, heard some movements outside the house.
He could tell that the person who was coming had a slightly powerful aura from the normal wolf.
“Someone is coming.” He said to Maya who was still in his arms and the two finally broke from the hug.
They had already calmed down from all the emotions they had been feeling.
“Do we have to hide?” Maya asked. They didn’t know whether the person coming over was a friend or a foe.
But since everything in the house had been destroyed then it must be the enemy.
“Of course, we have to hide since we don’t know who is coming over,” Ashton said.
“We have to wait and see who the person is and what his intentions are. If he is a friend we will show ourselves but if he is an enemy then we will have to be discreet.”
“No one knows that we are already back. Let’s not alert the enemy.” Ashton said.
“Okay.” Maya nodded. The two hurried and hid behind a secret door that was in the study room.
