Ashton and Maya finally ended their visit to the northern mountains.
They would be heading back to the ash band pack the following day.
Ashton kept having this nagging feeling that something was wrong with his pack. He could not wait to go back.
But this time they won’t be traveling for several days because Eliphas will be sending them back using his magical teleport and it will save them whole more several days of travel.
It was also because Ashton wanted to surprise everyone at the pack. If he went by physical means it will mean that people will find out about his arrival and if his intuition was correct then he won’t be able to make it to the pack. Maybe there was already an ambush waiting for him.
Ashton wanted to give them a surprise so that he could see the person who had the guts to mess with his pack.
Since he was the pack leader he had a connection with each pack member if so he wouldn’t be able to command them that is why he felt that his people were somehow crying out for him to save them.
Eliphas looked at them and felt emotional. The few months they had spent together made him feel like he was alive again. He looked at them emotionally.
Although he wanted Maya to stay he knew that he could not hold her back. She now had a responsibility to hold and as a luna, her role in the pack was just as powerful as that of an alpha.
She was alpha’s most trusted person. If anything happened to the alpha then by all means she had the right to take over the pack.
So in other words luna was a very important member of the pack. She could help the alpha with ruling the pack.
And Maya being the luna of the ash band pack she had to stay by Ashton’s side all the time and help him in leading his pack well.
Ashton also could not wish to be separated from her so the thought of Maya staying was only Eliphas wishful thinking.
He created a portal for Ashton and Maya and sent them directly to Ashton’s private villa.
It only took seconds before the two found themselves in Ashton’s study room. Ashton was once again amazed by the power of magic.
Magic had given him life. Magic had also uplifted Maya’s curse and she was now able to shift like any other normal wolf.
Magic has also made him find his mate. Magic had done a lot of good things for him but he wondered why his grandfather hated it so much that at the mention of it he would go berserk as if there was a whole fraid of ghosts chasing after him.
After getting used to the environment Ashton felt like the villa was eerily quiet.
There seemed not to be a single soul in the villa. Ashton was stunned. He spread his mind all over the villa and what he felt startled him.
What was going on? Why was no one in the villa? Was today some kind of holiday or was the pack holding a celebration?
But even if it was a holiday or the pack was holding a celebration there was no way no one would be at the villa.
This was the alpha’s villa. Some guards and servants were on call twenty-four-seven. But now…. Ashton had a strange feeling in his heart.
“I can’t feel a single soul in this place. It’s like it has been abandoned for a long time. Even the auras of the people who had stayed here are faint. I can’t even feel my beta.” Ashton said.
“Yeah, that is weird. I feel a strong sense of blood like there has been some kind of massacre in this place.” Maya said.
“Could the pack have been invaded when I was not around and everyone murdered?” Ashton asked as he looked at Maya. Worry could be seen in his deep pitch black eyes.
His eyes were still as beautiful even in his human form. They were beautiful and mysterious that no one could see through them.
“How is that possible?” Maya asked with astonishment.
“How is it not possible.” Although Ashton was worried he still had the heart to tease Maya and wanted to hear what she could say to console him.
“You are the great alpha Ashton, who dares to mess with your pack unless they have a death wish?” Maya asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I heard that you have the best gammas and no one dares to start a war with your pack or else they will be in for a big defeat. They would wish to walk with their tails behind with legs every time they lay their eyes on you.” Maya said.
“You have heard so much about me? I didn’t know that you had paid so much attention to me.” Ashton said feeling very happy.
“You are every girl’s fantasy. Maybe I was among those girls. Dreaming that one day an alpha like an angel will come and fall for a mortal like me.” Maya said with a laugh.
“But haven’t I already descended?” Ashton asked with a playful smile.
He knew what Maya was trying to do. Her distraction had really worked and now he could think more straight.
He stopped teasing her and started talking on a serious note.
Seeing that the worry between his eyebrows was gone, Maya heaved a sigh of relief and listened to his analysis with a serious expression too.
“There is no one in the villa or around the villa. I can’t even feel my secret guards who always hide in the dark. No one is in the villa. Although they tried to clean it, there is still a strong pungent of blood. It can only mean that my people were massacred.” Ashton said.
“Theo is not around the pack or else I could have already sensed him the moment I arrived. It’s either he is dead or he is captured by the enemy or he managed to flee.”
“I have stayed away only for a few months and my pack is already destroyed? How could someone attack my people?” Ashton asked as he moved around the study in circles.
“Hey, honey it is not your fault. First, we have to find out who did it and why?” Maya said to Ashton.
Ashton seemed to have thought of something as his eyes lit up.
“Baby you are a genius.” He smiled widely as he planted a kiss on Maya’s cheek making Maya blush immediately.
Ashton went over to his safe. The only people who knew of the way to open the safe were Theo and himself and whenever there was something urgent they could leave clues for one another in the safe.
He was sure that if something had happened to the pack then Theo must have left a message for him.
Maya looked on as Ashton skillfully opened the safe. He was not using a password but some weird methods that left her mind in a maze just by looking at it.
It seemed like he was performing a spell but at the same time, it was not a spell.
Even if the enemy was to threaten Ashton to open the safe they will die before it was opened because it had some kind of… I don’t know… the whole thing was just weird.
This safe had the top secrets of the pack. Although he shared the password with his beta there was some information even his beta couldn’t access.
Ashton finished opening the safe and as expected there was a neatly folded paper in the safe.
On top of the paper, there was a drawing of the Eagle and it made Ashton’s heart sink and his eyes turn extremely cold.
Before he could even open the paper to look a what was inside his whole body had already turned murderous.
Maya felt the change in his mood and immediately knew that the situation was worse than they had anticipated.
Ashton opened the papers with trembling hands. The sign of the Eagle was an indication that the situation had never been encountered before and it was the most difficult and most dangerous situation to ever happen.
Ashton opened the folded paper and only a few words greeted his eyes.
“Alpha, Kelly wants to take over the pack. He has murdered everyone in the villa and anyone who is loyal to you and dares to go against him is murdered. I tried but I couldn’t win against him. I hope that you find this message before it’s too late.”
Ashton was now seeing red after reading the words that Theo has left behind.
Kelly was his brother. Although he was not of pure blood he had nevertheless treated him like his own brother.
They were the closest among other his cousins and always shared a lot of secrets. He has never imagined that Kelly would be the one to betray him.
He had killed his people and that was unforgivable. He could have waited for him to come back and ask him to give up his alpha position to him.
But murdering his pack…
…. Ashton felt like killing someone. He hadn’t fought for the last few months and his blood boiled as he thought about the torture his pack must have gone through.
