One month passed by in a flash.
Maya had recovered almost fully and they were only waiting for her first shift because the full moon was around the corner.
After that, they were planning to leave the northern mountains and return to the pack after a few days.
Although she had yet to make her first shift, the aura around her had changed.
She was not a naive and easy-to-bully little girl anymore.
Now because of her wolf, she could hear, see and smell things more clearly.
Her instincts had heightened. She was like an Eagle soaring in the sky.
Ashton did his best at training her in everything he knew.
Her senses had sharpened. Maya found it amazing. The bond between her and Ashton had also grown strong with each passing day.
They were true mates as they could sense each other’s emotions more clearly.
“Today is your last day of training. You have done great because now you can control your emotions and your wolf well.” Eliphas said as he looked at Maya.
Although he had said that, he could not help but feel disappointed.
He had thought that Maya would turn out to be more than just a werewolf, but looking at the situation now, it seemed like he had to give up now.
“Uncle Eliphas, are you okay?” Maya asked when he sensed that his mood was not right.
“Yeah, I’m fine. You will be leaving soon and I’m going to miss you.” Eliphas said.
“Although I have already been used to living alone, I have enjoyed your company over the past four months, I can’t bear to see you leave.”
“We will come and visit when we have time uncle Eliphas, you don’t have to worry about that,” Maya said.
“You don’t have to do that. Look at how long it took you to reach here. If you were to visit more often, it will take up most of your time. I’m already old and waiting for my last days on earth so that I can go and reunite with my people. There is no need of worrying about me.” Eliphas said.
“Uncle Eliphas, don’t say that, I know that you will live another one hundred years,” Maya said.
“Haha my dear, don’t worry about me. I know my body more than anything else. I have been holding on because I knew that one day you will need my help and now that I have helped you, I can now die peacefully.”
“I’m grateful for everything that you have taught me. I promise that I will never disappoint you.”
“Ooh, child. There is no need for that. I know that you will never disappoint me and that you will make an even greater luna. I’m contented as long you live well and stay out of danger.” Eliphas said.
“Okay Uncle. I will go get some rest.”
She was also sad because they were leaving. She had spent most of her time with Eliphas than she had spent with Ashton when they came to the northern mountains.
Eliphas treated her well. He was good to her. It was a kind of love she has never experienced before in the wind winders pack.
The love between a father and a daughter. She had been envious of Lily when she had first been taken in. Although the beta family had adopted her under the orders of their alpha, they never really care about her and never treated her like one of their own.
She had been eager to blend in and had treated Lily like her own sister and Lily’s parents as her biological mother and father, but she didn’t receive the love she desired.
Their affection was too superficial that Maya had already gotten tired of them.
Their attitude towards her was also obvious. They didn’t give a damn about her.
If they had cared about her even for a little bit, they would not have allowed Lily to turn into a useless slave and if they had seen her as one of their own, they would not have allowed Lily to marry Mark.
….
Maya slept for an entire afternoon and by the time she woke up, it was already dark.
She opened her eyes and stretched her hands only to find that her body was lethargic and full of sweat.
When she tried to move, she realized that the bed and the blankets were soaked wet from God knows what.
Maya immediately became alert. Had she peed on herself while she was sleeping?
But would pee make her whole body wet and bones aching to the extent that they were breaking apart?
What was going on with her body?
Maya tried to move but she realized that even the act of lifting a finger required too much energy.
She felt like she was heating and the pain in her body made her almost pass out.
She gave out a low and painful growl as she stumbled on the floor from the bed.
Ashton and Eliphas had been paying close attention to Maya’s room. They knew this was the first full moon since Maya showed signs of recovery.
And if she had fully recovered, they knew that something will happen tonight that is why Ashton had especially gone out to hunt so that he can prepare a feast.
So when they heard the low growl from Maya’s room, they gave out knowing smiles before they sprung on their feet and rushed upstairs.
Maya who had almost lost all her senses due to pain looked down and saw her nails had elongated. Her hands were also becoming hairy and all the bones in her body were becoming deformed.
Her ears elongated as her eyes turned emerald green. Her legs twisted painfully resulting in her giving out a painful growl.
When Ashton saw her in so much pain, his heart also twisted painfully.
If Maya didn’t need to have her first shift, Ashton would not have allowed her to go through the pain.
But he knew that it was something that Maya had to experience for herself and if it was stopped halfway, it will do a devastating blow to her body.
Maya seemed to have lost all her senses.
Although she seemed to know what was going on, her mind was jumbled as the bones in her body cracked.
After a long time of excruciating pain, Maya finally made her first shift.
Her wolf had a deep set of green emerald eyes and her fur was grey and black, just like her hair.
She was simply a feast to the eyes as Ashton looked at her gently.
Seeing that she was walking around the room excitedly, Ashton also shifted as the two let their wolfs share some intimate moments.
The two howled at the moon and Maya could not resist the urge to run in the woods anymore.
