“Can you speak properly?” Gael tensed his jaws as he looked at his man.
“We followed the young alpha to the northern mountains. We thought that we were discreet enough but he had already discovered us.”
“When he discovered us, we tried to reason with him that you are only worried about him and sent us to protect him but he did not buy it.”
“He had already found out our motive a long time ago. He ordered us to come back and inform you that he was going to see wizard Eliphas and no one will stop him.”
“Insolent! Bastard!” Gael shouted angrily making the house tremble from his voice.
“Pat lost his life on the way back. He sacrificed himself so that I can reach safely and report to you.”
“His death won’t go in vain,” Gael said.
“That is all my Alpha.”
“You can go now.”
Gael dismissed everyone and locked himself in the room.
He thought about what happened back then and blamed himself even more.
If he had not blindly trusted his son and his wife, none of this would have happened.
If he had killed that witch the moment she was born, none of these would have happened.
But he knew there were no ifs in this world. The damage was already done and there is nothing he can do about it.
He never thought that Ashton will be so adamant and stubborn and even ignore his pack just because of a woman.
A woman who might turn out to be a witch and threaten his life.
Alphas were not supposed to be as indecisive as Ashton.
He had abandoned his pack for the sake of a woman! How could he defy his orders?
The more Gael thought about it the angry he became.
He felt that Ashton will be the death of him.
He had lost his son because of his selfishness back then, he was not going go to lose his grandson again.
If he had not been angry and sent them away back them because they lied to him, maybe things would have been different.
After pondering for a moment, his mind linked his most trusted subordinate and called him over.
In the northern mountains…..
…. Eliphas was currently performing a very powerful spell.
Since he was the one who placed the curse on Maya back then, he was the only one who could undo it.
He had said that once Maya was past twenty years old, the curse will not be uplifted and she would have to live without a wolf and a mate.
Although he had felt sorry for the little girl back then, there was nothing he could do.
He was under a threat from a certain someone who hated magic.
He had just hoped that Maya will be brought to him before it was too late so that he can help her.
Ashton was not allowed in the room where Eliphas was helping Maya. He was currently sitting lazily on the sofa as if there was nothing that could trifle him.
Eliphas had come downstairs to get a glass of water.
“How is it? Will you be able to help her?” He asked. Nervousness could be detected in his voice.
“I couldn’t do it. The spell has become so powerful and if I forcefully break it, we might lose her.” Eliphas said.
Ashton frowned.
He still remembered his mother’s words back then.
“Make sure you find Maya before she turns twenty-one and takes her to your uncle Eliphas. He is the only one who can help her.” Her mother said back then after being discovered by his grandfather.
He did not understand a thing at first but simply nodded his head.
“She is your life savior, you too have to save her. That is what you owe her.” His mother said to him.
“Without her, you would have died already. Don’t let her down.” Ashton was young back then, probably ten years old when his mother was saying all those things to him.
But he understood that Maya was his destiny and the two were destined together.
But now Eliphas was saying that Maya’s spell was too strong for him. He was not ready to lose Maya.
He had just revived his life some time ago after being dead for over twenty-five years, he would not allow anything to happen to her.
“Uncle Eliphas, is there no way you can help her?” Ashton asked.
Eliphas looked at him and shook his head.
“Maybe I have grown old. But the spell has been deeply rooted in her body there is nothing I can do about it.” Eliphas said.
“What will happen if you can’t break the curse? I remember my mom telling me to specifically find you. She had said that as long as Maya was not twenty-one years old, you could help her.” Ashton said.
“If it was before, I could have helped but now….” Eliphas did not finish his sentence as he shook his head.
“What will happen if you cannot undo the spell completely?” Ashton asked.
“At most, she will die within a year maybe.” He answered.
“No uncle Eliphas, I can’t let her die. No matter what, you have to help me.” Ashton almost went to his knees.
How could he lose his most precious gem after just retrieving it? If that were to happen, he can as well die with her.
“How are you so sure that she will turn out to be your mate?” Eliphas asked Ashton when he saw that he was on the verge of breaking down.
“I have a feeling. The moon goddess couldn’t have possibly forgotten about her humble servant, right?” Ashton asked.
“I’m already twenty-five years old approaching twenty-six. I haven’t felt any mate bond with all the wolves I have come in contact with. But the moment I saw her being thrown in the lake and when I carried her in my arms, I just felt like she was special.”
“Something in me was especially excited the moment I made physical contact with her,” Ashton said.
He remembered how he had been excited when he carried Maya in his arms from the lake.
Although he did not know her at that time, something in him was already excited about him touching her.
“Okay, son I was just messing with you. Maya will be fine.” Eliphas said after achieving what he wanted.
He wanted to see Ashton’s attitude concerning Maya.
To him, Maya was like his daughter because he made her mother pregnant through magic. Although they had not been physically involved, they had never cooperated to ensure that Maya was born.
Although he trusted Ashton, he was an alpha after all. What if he wasn’t as trustworthy as his grandfather and ended up betraying Maya in the end?
He would never allow something like that to happen. Never!
“Uncle, that joke was not funny,” Ashton said after realizing that Eliphas was just messing with him.
“I just wanted to see how serious and responsible you are about her. You know she is like a daughter to me. After all, she was born because of my magic.”
“Uncle Eliphas please take care of her well. And don’t worry I will take good care of her.” Ashton said.
