Chapter 111: Even If It Puts You at risk

Matthew glanced at his watch and realized that about fourteen hours had passed since the incident. He was quick to respond.
He held the phone in his hands, taking a moment to collect his thoughts.
Not hearing Matthew’s voice, Samuel started to worry. After all, Sampson was at home, so he couldn’t risk saying anything to Jessica that could slip out at the wrong time. It wouldn’t be good if Sampson found out.
“Should I call the police?” Samuel asked.
Matthew looked at Dolores for a moment. “Police? Why?”
Samuel was speechless.
Now that there was no evidence, the video could never be published. Besides, only a small part of the video didn’t explain much.
“Then what?” Samuel asked anxiously.
Matthew casually leaned on the table, his fingers rubbing the edge. He pondered for a bit before asking, “Do you want to seek revenge for your mommy?”
“Yes,” Samuel replied without hesitation.
“Even if it puts you at risk?”
Samuel was momentarily taken aback, but he quickly understood what Matthew meant. “You want me to follow Sampson. By the time he catches us, we can gather evidence of him breaking the law. We don’t have to involve Mommy.”
Although Sampson was shameless, if such a thing became public, Dolores’s reputation would also be tarnished.
Matthew looked into Dolores’s eyes, her expressions becoming more enigmatic. Samuel was really sharp.
He understood Matthew’s intention so quickly.
“I dare,” Samuel said boldly. “But…”
Samuel rolled his eyes and decided to remain silent.
If Mommy found out that Matthew was using them as bait, she would definitely be angry, right? he thought.
“But what?” Matthew asked.
“Nothing,” Samuel chose to keep quiet.
“You have to pretend that you don’t know anything, behave just like always, and don’t let him suspect you. Keep the location sharing on your phone, and leave the rest to me.”
“Okay.”
Samuel understood what he needed to do.
After ending the call, Matthew pressed a button on the landline phone to summon Abbott to his office.
Soon, Abbott knocked on the door.
Matthew told him to come in, and Abbott walked toward Matthew.
Matthew whispered a few words to him. After hearing Matthew’s words, Abbott glanced at Dolores. Would she be upset if she found out about this?
After all, her children were at risk.
“I got it!”
“Don’t make any mistakes. You should personally handle it.”
“Okay.”
Dolores picked up a financial magazine and started flipping through it. She wasn’t really interested in reading it, but she wanted to pass the time.
She didn’t want to disturb Matthew while he was dealing with Abbott.
Once Abbott left, Matthew asked, “Would you like to check if they have finished talking?”
He referred to Armand and Terry.
“Okay.” Dolores stood up and took off her coat.
Her skirt was thin, and the office air conditioner was on, making it chilly.
Matthew reached out his hand toward her shoulder, but Dolores avoided him. “If you do this again, I will get angry.”
She put on a serious face.
Their current relationship was neither here nor there; it was very unclear.
If someone looked from the outside, they wouldn’t know what was going on.
Matthew didn’t push it. He wasn’t in a rush. There was time.
Armand and Terry were in the reception room, just a short walk from Matthew’s office.
Pushing the door of the meeting room, Dolores was shocked by the sight of the reception room. The interior decoration here was completely different from Matthew’s office. The dark-colored tables and chairs gave the room a calming atmosphere. The right side of the room was entirely opened up and fitted with a glass wall, making the room brightly lit. Every piece of decoration exuded elegance, even the water cups looked valuable.
Dolores understood that this room was used for receiving guests and conducting important discussions. It needed to represent the company well.
Seeing Dolores, Terry quickly stood up, feeling somewhat uneasy.
Dolores motioned for him not to be nervous.
“How did the conversation go?” Matthew pulled up a chair and sat down.
Armand ignored him and stared at Dolores, holding his chin up.
He examined her from head to toe and then back up.
He smirked, “So, this is the kind of person you like now? I thought you used to prefer those Helen types. Did your taste change?”
Armand knew Helen, knew about her past relationship with Matthew, and knew she was now the daughter of the Herbert family. He knew she had changed her name, but he didn’t want to address her differently, so he still used her old name.
“There’s quite a difference.” It was clear that Dolores and Helen were not the same type.
Matthew remained calm, coldly observing Armand as he rambled.
Armand quickly grew bored with his act and dropped the facade. He spoke seriously, “You have to help with this matter.”
Dealing with an ordinary person would be easy, but the other party had a background, status, and influence.
It wasn’t going to be simple. They needed assistance to build an ironclad case.
Matthew had already devised a plan.
He leaned back in his chair, gently tapping his fingers on the table in a rhythmic manner, lost in deep thought.
Armand recognized Matthew’s contemplative state and stopped talking. He stood up, approached Dolores with a smile, and introduced himself, “Let me introduce myself first. My name is Armand. I’m the owner of DC Law Firm. You can call me by my first name.”
Dolores looked at him, unsure of how to respond.
Terry’s mouth hung open in surprise.
“You’re the owner of DC Law Firm?” Terry finally asked after a long pause. He hadn’t known that Armand was from DC Law Firm and that he was the renowned lawyer who had never lost a case.
He had only heard about him but had never met him.
“I’m meeting the real you today,” Terry exclaimed excitedly.
This time, I can seek justice for my brother, Terry thought to himself.
“What do you mean by ‘real you’? Have you ever met a fake version of me?” Armand questioned him.
Terry waved his hands hurriedly and explained, “No, no. I meant that I greatly admire you.”
Armand straightened up, adjusting his unwrinkled collar, and proudly stated, “That’s more like it!”
Terry chuckled.
Dolores quietly took a step back, not wanting to involve herself in their conversation.
Armand’s keen eyes noticed her retreat, and he stepped to the left to intercept her. “How should I address you? If you hadn’t divorced Matthew, I would have called you sister-in-law.”
Rubbing his chin thoughtfully, he glanced at Matthew and added with meaning, “Actually, I can still call you that now…”
“Just call me Dolores,” she interrupted him.
Armand smiled, “It doesn’t feel quite right.”
“It’s completely appropriate,” Dolores insisted.
She didn’t want to be addressed in a peculiar way.
“Then can I call you Lola?”
At that moment, the black ink pen on the table fell to the ground with a loud clatter.
The pen belonged to Armand, who had been using it to jot down the case details as Terry briefed him.
Armand stared blankly at the fallen pen.
Matthew approached calmly and steadily. Passing by Armand, he spoke lightly, “I’m sorry, I accidentally dropped your pen.”
Armand’s expression froze.
That pen was incredibly precious to him-it had been a gift from his last girlfriend.
Matthew took Dolores’s hand and said, “We should leave now.”
“Where are we going?” Dolores asked, puzzled.
“You’ll find out when we get there.”
Armand stood there, stunned for several seconds.
Then, he reacted and shouted after Matthew’s departing figure, “Are you a child? Why would you do something so naive?”
Matthew paid him no attention.
Lola? He had never called her that before! Matthew thought to himself.
Armand’s mouth twitched.
In the car.
“Are we going to see Mommy?” Simona sat on Jessica’s lap, but she couldn’t help but keep looking out of the car window, curious about the passing scenery.
Sampson, who was driving, turned around and reassured her, “Yes, Mommy will be there too. I called her.”
Samuel glanced at Sampson and inwardly sneered at his deceit towards the child.
“Really?” Simona was genuinely excited because she wanted to see her Mommy.
