Not knowing how many cups of coffee she made, Charlotte was so exhausted that the room spun as she walked and was thinking about giving up. When she carried the coffee into the meeting room, Kennedy was gone.
He hadn’t said if Charlotte had passed his test and instead left altogether?
Charlotte put the coffee on the table, turned around, and headed out to look for Kennedy.
When she arrived at the ground floor of the office building, she saw Kennedy’s car leaving the parking garage of the Moore Group.
And, once again, she was abandoned.
Charlotte laughed sarcastically at herself. She should have expected something like that.
She walked down the road and planned to take a cab, but a silver-white car stopped in front of her.
The car window was opened. Manfred’s gentle and handsome face was revealed.
“Christina, let me drive you home.”
Charlotte was stunned for quite a while before finally shaking her head and giving him a small smile. “No need.”
If he saw Manfred helping her, Kennedy would say Charlotte was casually trying to hit on others.
“Get in, you’ve been running around for several hours, you’re probably pretty exhausted.”
Manfred unbuckled his seat belt and got out of the car to open the door for her. He was really a gentleman whom others would be stupid to refuse his kindness.
After contemplating it for a few moments, Charlotte finally got into the car.
“Thanks.”
“No problem.” Manfred smiled gently at her and glanced over at her before pulling out. “Don’t forget to fasten your seatbelt.”
Manfred drove Charlotte back to the Moore family, silent the entire time. He didn’t ask her anything about herself or her day and let her out of the car at the front of the house.
Charlotte slowly went upstairs to her room. She was still reveling in Manfred’s gentleness.
The two of them were brothers. But why were their personalities so different?
Entering her room, Charlotte stopped in her tracks. Someone haphazardly threw her suitcase in the middle of the room on the floor.
Charlotte stared at it for a few seconds before looking up at the person in the room.
“Who said you could fill my house with your stuff?”
Charlotte stood there in silence for a moment before stepping forward to stand her suitcase upright. “You did, in a way. You left without saying anything?”
On their wedding night, Nathan had rolled him out of the room and Kennedy had left her alone all night. So, she figured he wouldn’t be coming back.
“Well, this is my room.”
Charlotte was silent. She then bit her lower lip, “But I’m your wife.”
“A wife who marries me under her younger sister’s name?”
Charlotte was speechless. It appeared he wouldn’t allow her to stay in the room. From his words and actions, it was clear he detested her very much, but she had nowhere else to go.
Realizing all of that, Charlotte looked at him with begging eyes. “I beg you, will you please let me stay in the corner of this room? I just need the corner, I don’t need extra space.”
“No!”
Charlotte’s face turned pale, “But if I leave, Grandpa will find out.”
Kennedy gave an order. Nathan stepped forward. “Ms. Wilson, please leave; don’t make me do something you’ll regret.”
Charlotte bit her lower lip. “Is this really not negotiable?”
Kennedy’s eyes, flashing with fierceness, reminded her of a wolf.
After a few seconds of staring at each other, Charlotte turned around and dragged her suitcase out of the room. Nathan closed the door behind her.
“Mr. Kennedy, it seems she really shrinks back from difficulties and is choosing to give up.”
Kennedy curled his lips disdainfully. He thought she was very determined, but then she gave up so easily.
Haha, she really is vulnerable.
“Have you sent your men to the hospital?” Kennedy asked abruptly.
Nathan’s expression changed, “No, not yet.”
“Then why are you still standing around here?”
“I’ll get right on it!” Nathan said, darting out of the room.
When he shut the door behind him, he noticed Charlotte was still standing at the door with her suitcase. He glared at her and left.
…
The next day, Nathan went to look for Kennedy. When he arrived at Kennedy’s door, his eyes couldn’t help but widen in surprise.
He tiptoed into the room, woke up Kennedy, and helped him to wash and get ready for the day.
Halfway through, however, Nathan couldn’t help but bring up what he saw. “Mr. Kennedy, Ms. Wilson…”
When Nathan mentioned Charlotte’s name, Kennedy grimaced. His aura became intense instantly.
“Mr. Kennedy, it’s not that I mentioning her deliberately, but she…” Nathan couldn’t continue beating around the bush anymore so he simply got straight to the point, “I think you should go and take a look by yourself.”
“Alright, roll me out then.”
Although Kennedy had prepared himself for what he was about to see, the sight of the woman sleeping in the doorway with her jacket draped over her like a blanket still shocked him.
Charlotte had laid her suitcase next to her and covered herself with a jacket while sleeping pressed against the wall. Her body slumped to the ground, probably because of exhaustion. And because of the chill in the hallway, she shivered while trying to cover her body with the jacket. The part of her that was visible was her fair face.
Her skin was so fair it shone in the light. She hadn’t styled her hair in any particular way, just leaving it straight and smooth. A few strands of hair were plastered to her forehead, making her look innocent.
Staring at her shivering body, Kennedy actually felt a bit of pity for her.
A few moments later, he turned to Nathan coldly. “Wake her up.”
Kennedy’s order stunned Nathan. “How do you want me to wake her up?”
“Is there any special way to wake someone up?” said Kennedy.
Nathan walked over, raised his foot, and gently kicked Charlotte’s butt.
Kennedy’s face instantly darkened and his voice grew icy. “What are you doing?”
Nathan looked back at Kennedy, confused. “I’m waking her up.” He rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Sir, is it because you think I’m not kicking her hard enough? I can kick her harder.”
In Nathan’s opinion, Kennedy should have hated Charlotte very much.
“I told you to wake her up, but I never told you to hurt her.” Kennedy contained his anger, which was going to make him fly into a rage.
“Got it!” Nathan finally got what he meant.
He immediately squatted down to shake Charlotte’s shoulder gently. Charlotte slept like a log and only opened her eyes with great difficulty after being shaken for quite a while.
“Ms. Wilson, it’s already morning, wake up.”
It was morning already? After being confused for quite a while, she sat up and lost her presence of mind for a while, seemingly thinking about what had happened yesterday. She looked around and noticed the hall was already very bright. Then she rubbed her eyes. She hadn’t planned to sleep outside Kennedy’s room all night long. Time flew…
While she was still trying to make sense of what happened, a question was thrown at her coldly.
“Who said you could sleep in my doorway?”
Charlotte looked up and saw Kennedy staring at her in displeasure.
Then, after a moment, she hugged the jacket tightly around her and whispered, “I have nowhere else to go.”
Because of sleeping on the ground all night without a proper blanket, Charlotte’s voice was extremely nasally.
“So, instead you chose to make an ass out of yourself by sleeping here?”
Charlotte bit her lower lip, raised her head stubbornly to face Kennedy’s cold gaze. “If you think I make an ass out of myself, you should’ve let me sleep in your room instead.”
“You…”
Kennedy was at a loss for words. She surprisingly dared to argue with him.
Charlotte continued staring at him. Compared to the night before, her face now looked abnormally pale. It seemed like she was sick. Seeing her vulnerable appearance, Kennedy’s heart inexplicably softened and he snorted.
“Let’s go.”
Nathan walked forward to push the wheelchair. “Mr. Kennedy, what about Ms. Wilson?”
Kennedy turned and looked back. His gaze was sharp, “Don’t make an ass out of yourself at the door.”
After the two of them left, Charlotte stood up while still holding her jacket.
His words just now… that meant he would allow her to enter the room, right?
Whether it was a yes or a no was unimportant. Since he’d left, she decided to go in to get ready for the day.
While brushing her teeth, Charlotte suddenly felt nauseous. She braced herself against the sink and retched several times before she could finish brushing her teeth.
After rinsing her mouth, Charlotte felt cold, so she took a hot shower. However, even after her hot shower, she still felt cold. Her throat was also too raw from pain for her to speak normally. She even felt a little dizzy.
Thinking about it for a while, Charlotte went to the hospital for some medicine.
