“It was so coincidental that the explosion happened when Uncle Nelson asked me to show him my palm. Mr. Field, thank you for helping me out just now. What do you want to say to me? Just come straight to the point. We have no time to waste. Uncle Nelson will doubt us if we stay here for too long.”
Geoffrey chuckled dryly, saying, “I’ve spent so many years working for him, yet he’s always been dismissive of me. You’ve tried everything to distance yourself from him, but he keeps pulling you back in, making you his heir against your wishes. It’s quite amusing, really.”
“I’ve explained to you before that I assumed control of Uncle Nelson’s business not because I want his wealth but because he saved my life on two occasions, and I feel indebted to him.”
“I know that,” Geoffrey acknowledged, then lifted his head, sporting a sly grin. “I also know that you were the one who rushed to save Estelle that day. Clearly, you haven’t quite let go of her.”
Cristofer’s smile gradually faded, replaced by a stern expression. He fixed his eyes on Geoffrey and said in a deep tone, “Go on.”
“We’ve always been at odds, and you could be considered my greatest enemy in life. But I’m willing to lend you a hand.”
Cristofer leaned in, intrigued. “So, how can you help me?”
Geoffrey wore a knowing grin. “I’ve got a secret that could reunite you with Estelle.”
Cristofer raised an eyebrow. “What’s this secret?”
“It’s my trump card. I can’t spill the beans right now,” Geoffrey replied.
“What’s your condition then?”
“I need you to promise that you’ll give up all of Uncle Nelson’s assets when he passes away and transfer them to me,” Geoffrey stated.
Cristofer gave him a skeptical look. “How can I be sure you’re not just playing tricks on me? What if there’s no secret at all?”
Geoffrey shrugged casually. “You’re free not to believe me. But in that case, you’ll have to accept that Estelle loves someone else, and you’ll never win her back.”
Cristofer nodded and admitted, “Mr. Field, you’re quite knowledgeable.”
Geoffrey responded confidently, “Well, I’ve been working for Uncle Nelson for so many years. I know as much as he does about everything.”
“Really?” Cristofer said, “Then you should also know that I don’t want to inherit Uncle Nelson’s properties at all. His properties are meaningless to me. As long as I want, I can gain as many properties as he has. I can give you all his properties after he passes away. But you should convince me that you are trustworthy and your trump card is worth it.”
Hearing this, Geoffrey lowered his head and chuckled. “Let me see…” he said thoughtfully, “If I tell you that I know who Mr. Mysterious is, will you believe me?”
Cristofer raised his head abruptly and looked at him with sharp eyes.
Geoffrey added, “I also know that your cars in the garage weren’t damaged by water. Someone secretly sold them and sent the money straight to Estelle’s account before.”
Cristofer was curious, “Who sold my cars?”
“Someone you would never expect.”
Cristofer’s eyebrow raised, “I can’t figure out who would sell my cars and give the money to Estelle like that.”
Geoffrey replied, “I’ll tell you, but only if you agree to my earlier request.”
Cristofer had a hunch, “Is it Mr. Mysterious?”
Geoffrey pretended to be disappointed, “Oh, what a pity. I lost my trump card. You guessed it right. How did you know?
Without answering his question, Cristofer looked directly into his, “But who is Mr. Mysterious, and how did he get my cars and sell them?”
“He’s a clever man, and he’s still alive,” Geoffrey teased.
“What?!”
“Haha. The news is shocking, right?” Geoffrey laughed and said, “Mr. Mysterious is still alive, and he is in Hadale. You don’t know him, but he is very familiar with you. If he doesn’t show up in front of Estelle, you will still be able to act with her in front of your grandfather and stay by her side. But what if he suddenly shows up and contacts Estelle? Can you guarantee that Estelle won’t go back to his side?”
Cristofer fell silent.
“Mr. Hans, think it over before giving me your answer. Take your time,” Geoffrey suggested with a meaningful smile.
‘Mr. Mysterious is still alive!’ Cristofer thought in shock. This news almost destroyed his sanity and calmness.
Being Mr. Mysterious’ substitute was the only way that he could keep Estelle staying by his side. He had thought that as long as he could be a substitute, Estelle would fall in love with him again. But now Geoffrey told him that Mr. Mysterious was still alive. Such a piece of news extinguished his hope.
“Since he is still alive, why doesn’t he contact Estelle? Why does he make her think that he has passed away?” Cristofer asked, trying to calm himself down.
Geoffrey looked at him curiously and asked tentatively, “Mr. Hans, have you really forgotten that?”
Not knowing what Geoffrey meant, Cristofer frowned and asked, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing.” Geoffrey was amused by his reaction and snorted while a wide smile appeared on his lips. “Well, you just know that Mr. Mysterious may show up at any time. That’s enough for now.”
With a darkened face, Cristofer clenched his fists so hard that his hands trembled.
Geoffrey noticed Cristofer’s reaction and warned him with a smile, “Mr. Hans, I see you’re quite shocked. But try not to clench your fists too tightly. You might reopen that wound in your palm, and Uncle Nelson will notice.”
Taking Geoffrey’s advice, Cristofer slowly relaxed his fists.
Geoffrey’s smile grew wider as he taunted Cristofer, “It’s true, isn’t it? When it comes to Estelle, you become quite obedient.”
Suddenly, Cristofer turned to him with a cold glare and asked, “Do you know where Mr. Mysterious is right now?”
Geoffrey responded casually, “Of course. Why such hostility? Are you planning to kill him, erase him from this world, so you can take his place in Estelle’s heart forever?”
“I’m not as despicable as you are. Why did Mr. Mysterious fake his death? Does he love Estelle or not?” Cristofer snapped back.
Shrugging, Geoffrey said, “I don’t know. I’m not him. How am I supposed to know whether he loves Estelle? You can ask him in person when you find him.”
“Okay,” Cristofer said coldly, “I promise you that I’ll give all that I inherited from Uncle Nelson after he passes away. Now tell me all that you know.”
“I don’t trust you. Verbal statements are no guarantee,” Geoffrey cleverly responded.
