Feeling annoyed, he opened the car window and lit a cigarette. But the next moment, he suddenly remembered that Estelle had a lung problem, so he threw the cigarette out and then closed the car window.
“If my memory serves me right, your wedding should be held today. Why are you here? Your wedding ceremony is to come to the concert?” Estelle inquired, brows furrowed.
“Yes, that’s it.”
“Miss Wilson’s preference is so special,” Estelle remarked.
“Yes, she is very special,” Cristofer confirmed in an annoyed tone.
Sensing the irony in his words, Estelle took a deep breath to calm herself down.
Then she looked at him in the rearview mirror. Cristofer was looking out of the window, and she could only see his side face.
Estelle gazed at his dark eyebrows, prominent nose, thin lips, and well-defined jaw for quite a while. Then she shifted her gaze to his clothes and was stunned.
“Why are you all in black on your wedding day?” Estelle asked.
Cristofer glared at her in the rearview mirror and said, “It’s none of your business. I can wear whatever I like.”
“Alright. You can wear whatever you want as long as Miss Wilson likes it. I don’t care.”
A prolonged silence enveloped the car.
Cristofer then snorted and continued with contempt, “How could someone be willing to give birth to a child for Howard? It’s so ridiculous.”
“You’d better go back inside the stadium as soon as possible. Your chaste Miss Wilson is still waiting for you. Be good to her after you two get married,” Estelle suggested in a soft voice.
“I don’t need you to teach me what to do.”
“Okay. I won’t say anything more. Unlock the door and let me get out of the car.”
“I still have something to talk to you,” Cristofer said as he turned to look at her. “What can we do to save that child?”
Hearing this, Estelle was surprised and confused. “You…”
“Don’t think too much. When Yohan was sick, I didn’t do anything for him as his father, and it was you who faced it all alone and tried hard to save him. I owe you for that, so now, I want to make it up. That child is in the same condition as Yohan before, and I can’t bear to watch her die. Tell me what I can do to save her. I’ll try my best.”
“…”
“Don’t refuse me. You need my help,” Cristofer said firmly, “If you want to save that child, you’d better tell me what I can do right now.”
“She needs to have a liver transplant,” Estelle immediately said. “But I can’t find a suitable liver donor.”
Glancing at her with imperceptible surprise in his eyes, Cristofer asked, “Can’t you or Howard donate the liver for her?”
“Howard has liver disease as well. Christina inherited her liver condition from him. As for me…” Estelle trailed off, bowing her head and sighing, “I’m not biologically related to her. Unfortunately, the compatibility for a liver transplant between us didn’t work out.”
“What?” Cristofer was stunned. “You are unrelated to her by blood? Isn’t that girl your child?”
After a few seconds of silence, Estelle said, “Although she is not my biological child, she has been living with me these years. I’ve taken her as my child.”
She didn’t know if it was her illusion that she saw a faint smile on Cristofer’s face after she finished her words.
Estelle rubbed her painful wrist, and the pain made her mind clear.
Thinking that Cristofer might be worried that she would love Christina more than Yohan and Yvonne, she continued, “She and Yohan and Yvonne are all my children. I’ve always given every one of them one hundred percent of my love. So you don’t need to worry that I will not be as good to Yohan and Yvonne as before.”
“And forget the thought of taking Yohan and Yvonne away from me. After you get married, you will have a new child in the future. But I’m different from you. I won’t remarry for the rest of my life. I can’t lose Yohan and Yvonne.”
The concert finally came to an end. Soon, many young girls walked out of the stadium. They were laughing, talking, and sharing the pictures of Howard that they had taken with each other.
‘It is so good to be young. The young can shout, cheer, and cry for the one they love regardless of anything. However, life is cruel. Their passion and craziness will fade away as time passes by.’
‘After these young girls get married and have children, they may miss this night and their youth.’
Thinking about her own youth, Estelle couldn’t help sighing.
She had spent her youth with Cristofer. She had thought they would be together forever, but he hurt her and made her heartbroken. Later, she finally divorced him and was with Mr. Mysterious.
Her hope was distinguished when she thought she could start a new life.
And she failed to keep the child of Mr. Mysterious and her.
The scene of her having an abortion flashed across her mind again, and she felt heartache as well as a sharp pain in her belly.
“Star, what’s wrong with you?” Noticing that something was wrong with Estelle, Cristofer leaned over and touched her forehead.
“You are sweating. Do you have a stomach ache? Or does your lung hurt?”
Neither.
Estelle used to think that cancer pain was the most severe pain in the world.
However, when she was pressed against the bed, pushed into the operating room, and forced to have an abortion three years ago, she suddenly realized that the most severe pain was not physical pain but emotional pain.
With a worried look, Cristofer leaned over and wanted to hug her. “Let me take you to the hospital first.”
Turning her face away and shaking off his hand gently, Estelle refused him in a cold voice, “No, thanks. Please unlock the door and let me get out of the car.”
Seeing her like this, Cristofer said angrily, “Can you stop being so stubborn? Can you stop pretending to be strong?”
“If I hadn’t been strong enough, I wouldn’t have been still alive now, let alone give birth to Yvonne. If I hadn’t been strong enough, Yohan would have died abroad, and you would never know that you have a son!”
Picking his thin lips tightly, Cristofer gazed at her for a while and sighed heavily.
“You still hate me,” he said, smiling bitterly.
“My heart is small. There’s no room for others,” Estelle stated firmly.
Knowing what she meant, Cristofer said, “You mean that you only have Mr. Mysterious in your heart, and you even disdain to hate me, right?”
