Cristofer scrutinized the candidates’ resumes without saying anything, and his face increasingly darkened.
The meeting room exuded such a serious atmosphere that no one dared to utter a single word.
It was widely acknowledged that the position of the president’s secretary at Hans International Corporation came with an attractive salary, and the prerequisites for the role were equally demanding.
Before submitting their applications, the candidates had become aware that none of Cristofer’s former secretaries had successfully completed the probationary period. Nevertheless, enticed by the substantial salary, they remained eager to give it a shot.
After adjusting their emotions, the candidates braced themselves for the upcoming interview.
After reading all the resumes, Cristofer drew out one of them and threw it into the trash can.
“This candidate is not qualified,” he said coldly.
The HR manager was shocked by his behavior.
She immediately picked up the resume, put it on the desk, and reminded Cristofer in a low voice, “Mr. Hans, this candidate majored in jewelry design. Her major is suitable for our company!”
Cristofer pointed at the education background column.
The HR manager leaned over and read it carefully. Then she was even more confused.
“Lanster Jewelry Design Academy… Mr. Hans, this is the world’s top university of jewelry design.”
Cristofer said with his face still darkened, “I will never hire anyone graduating from this university.”
“Why?” the HR manager asked.
Ignoring her, Cristofer drew out another resume and was about to throw it into the trash can.
This time, the HR manager reached out and took the resume from his hand immediately.
She lowered her head and looked at the resume, asking, “Mr. Hans, this candidate has five years of experience as a secretary. Are you dissatisfied with her?”
There were five candidates in the interview. Since Cristofer was so picky, four of them were rejected, and soon only one candidate was left in the meeting room.
Cristofer read the last resume in his hand many times and then looked at the candidate for a long time.
The HR manager, whose heart was in her mouth, stood beside Cristofer and felt helpless.
In the past three years, she had recruited countless secretaries for Cristofer. But none of them could pass the probation period, and Cristofer had fired all of them.
“She has the job,” Cristofer suddenly announced. Then without saying anything else, he stood up and walked out of the meeting room.
Hearing Cristofer’s words, the HR manager breathed a sigh of relief.
Then she scrutinized the resume of the last candidate named, Eva and was a little confused because she found that Eva couldn’t compare to other candidates in terms of educational background, ability, and appearance at all.
She pondered that Cristofer might hold distinct criteria for this role compared to her own.
“By the way,” Cristofer suddenly stopped his steps at the door of the meeting room and said, “Tell all the staff members to work overtime this weekend and make the bidding document. The overtime pay is still the same as before, three times their daily wages.”
The HR manager was stunned, and her face turned pale. “… Mr. Hans, do we have to work overtime on the weekend again?”
“Do you believe the overtime pay is inadequate? In that case, convey to them that I’m prepared to offer them overtime compensation at a rate five times their daily wages,” Cristofer stated.
“No, I didn’t mean that. I mean, aren’t you going to hold your wedding this weekend?”
Upon hearing this, Cristofer responded with a chilly tone, “It’s a mere formality and will consume only an hour of my time. I intend to resume work right after the wedding. I expect the bidding document to be on my desk by the time I return.”
As Cristofer had gone away, Eva approached the HR manager with a tentative expression and inquired, “Is working overtime a regular occurrence?”
The HR manager offered a wry smile and responded, “Yes. Our boss is a true workaholic. I still recall his words from last year’s annual meeting. He stated that he only requires two hours of sleep per day, and sometimes he even goes without sleep. He also remarked that since eternal rest awaits us after death, we shouldn’t waste our precious time on sleep while we’re alive.”
Eva’s eyes widened in shock. She then quickly responded, “But if we work overtime frequently, we may drop dead!”
“Every coin has two sides. Although working overtime is exhausting, we are well-paid. The salary Mr. Hans offers is much higher than that offered by any other company in Hadale. Just take your job as an example. No secretary can get a monthly salary of twenty thousand dollars in our city.”
Eva nodded in agreement.
Generally speaking, the salary of a president’s secretary ranged from five thousand dollars to seven thousand dollars, while Cristofer offered twenty thousand dollars for this position. In addition, Cristofer also offered more generous overtime pay than the other companies.
“Let’s go. I’ll take you to go through the entry procedures,” the HR manager invited her.
“Okay.”
“Eva, I’d like to offer you some advice,” the HR manager said kindly, “Firstly, avoid wearing attire with floral patterns while at the company. Mr. Hans has a dislike for them. Secondly, keep the lights in his office on at all times. Lastly, remember that Mr. Hans has stomach issues and can only consume hot beverages.”
Hearing the tips, Eva gritted her teeth and said, “Okay. I see. Anything else?”
“These are all the pointers I can come up with for now. If I come up with more, I’ll certainly share them with you later. In any case, remember to speak less and act more,” advised the HR manager.
“Okay.”
“By the way, I suddenly remember that you have to pick up a person this afternoon. Can you drive?”
“Yes, I can. Who will I pick up?”
The HR manager said, “Miss Wilson, Mr. Hans’s fiancee. They have made an appointment to buy wedding dresses and jewelry today. But Mr. Hans is too busy to keep the appointment. You are his secretary, so you will do it for him.”
Eva didn’t expect that her first task in this company was to go shopping with her boss’ fiancée and she didn’t know if she could do it well.
“Marriage is one of the most important events of one’s life. Won’t Mr. Hans’ fiancée be unhappy if he doesn’t accompany her to buy wedding dresses?” she asked.
The HR manager shrugged and remarked, “Not everyone enters marriage due to love, especially among the wealthy. Don’t stress too much. Miss Wilson is a decent woman. She possesses a gentle and kind nature. Your role is to accompany and assist her.”
“Okay.”
