” I… Hmmm, my brother got into a little bit of an accident.” She said, her mood dampened and her blush disappeared. She suddenly felt like going back to the hospital.
” ohh I’m sorry. Is he okay now?” he asked concern evident on his face.
” He is still unconscious but the doctors said he is just sleeping,” She said trying to control the panic in her but Chris could hear it. He stated rubbing circles on her back as a form of little comfort he can offer at that moment. She smiled at the contact, maybe he cares more than she thought.
” If you don’t mind, can I pay a visit?” He asked and she nodded yes. He straightened his rumpled shirt and adjust his tie before opening the door for both of them. She used her hand to brush a few strands of hair that escaped her messy bun during their kiss earlier.
” What kind of accident was it?” he suddenly asked grabbing her hands on their way out of the parking lot. He suddenly remembered what Liam told him before he approached Sophie for a relationship.
” He fell I think” She lied bluntly and she could tell he wasn’t buying it.
” From the stairs” She added.
” How high were the stairs that will leave him unconscious?” he asked the moment they enter the elevator. Thank goodness they were the only ones there, he may be wrong but he has this thought that her brother being in the hospital has something to do with her father’s gambling problem and he doesn’t buy her lie of her brother falling off the staircase one bit like this.
” Look at me Soph and tell me the truth. Your father has been gambling again right?” He couldn’t help it, if they had to start afresh again he had to tell her he knew so many things about her.
” Wait how?” She gasped in shock but his expression remained serious.
” I know everything Sophie just tell me the truth,” He said calmly while she looked at him still in shock. Her expression morphed into an angry one within seconds.
” I don’t remember telling anyone about my family problems until like an hour ago. How did you know about this?” she raised her voice pointing her fingers at him in an accusing manner but he only grabbed it and dragged her closer.
” I know you are only talking like this because you are embarrassed. But you don’t need to, I only did a thorough background check on you” he whispered.
” So that was why you approached me?” she scoffed struggling to get out of his hold.
” What?”
” Because you knew I needed your money?” She said gritting her teeth together, he let her hands go.
” God Sophie No! That was not the reason why I approached you. I did a background check because I thought something was off with you that I knew you wouldn’t share and I wanted to help” He explained but she was still red with anger. Annoyed by the way he breached her privacy. She breathes in and out to calm herself down. Something just came to her mind.
” Were you the one that paid the first debt?” She asked in a low tone and he confirmed with a nod. The elevator dings and they both exit without a word. He trailed after her silently giving her time to process everything. She was trying to key everything together, wondering why he would do that when he barely knew her at all.
There were so many things about this man that remained a mystery to her and she needs more answers but not now. As she was about to enter her brother’s room she turned around almost startling him.
” Thank you so much. I guessed I’m so used to doing everything hard by myself. It was strange having someone help me secretly.” She muttered and he grabbed her hands and entwined it in his own bigger ones.
” You are welcome”
” I’m sorry for overreacting earlier too”
” It’s okay” He offered her his billion-dollar smile before moving closer to her, he engulfed her in a warm hug and kissed her forehead making her melt. That took a while before the door opened suddenly behind both of them.
” I wonder what is taking her ….. Ohhh” Kayla jumped seeing both of them in that position. They let go of each other instantly but she locked the door back.
Sophie looked at him with a confused expression and he shrugged his shoulders as he opened the door anyways. Kayla looked at them with an expression that said ” We need to talk” while Max was just shocked to see them together. Noah was awake and he was very confused about the entire situation. He was on the bed in a sitting position playing cards with Max before Sophie and Chris entered.
” Hi,” Chris waved at them ignoring the tension in the room. Max replied casually while Kayla waved her hand at him.
The room was silent for a while before Noah broke the silence.
” When can I go home?” Noah said with an irritated expression ignoring the mood. He was concerned about his hatred for the hospital and he wants to be out as soon as possible.
” Oh Noah you are awake, I was so scared” Sophie crushed him in a hug almost sobbing. He rolled his eyes at his sister’s dramatics.
” Yeah I am awake but I need to know when I’m getting out of this place and who is he?” Noah said pointing at Chris who smiled at him in return.
” Noah this is Chris, Chris this is my younger brother Noah and my best friends Max and Kayla” She introduced him to everyone in the room, telling Kayla with her eyes to act normal.
” Is he your boyfriend?” Noah asked and Kayla coughed. ” More like the man that broke her heart” She muttered between fake coughs. Max rolled his eyes and Chris and Sophie ignored.
” Come on Noah, how are you feeling?” Sophie asked instead ignoring his questions.
” I’m fine now, can I go home?” He replied.
” You don’t like it here? Should I have you moved to the VIP?” Chris offered.
” Not that. He doesn’t like hospitals in general” Sophie but her brother has a different opinion.
” VIP room? Really? That’s cool” Noah said excitedly looking at Chris like a literal god.
” Wait you are not joking? I can go to the VIP?” He asked again to confirm. Chris gave him a wide grin while typing something on his phone, probably the person in charge.
” The owner of the hospital is a friend of mine”
His phone rings and he excused himself politely from their midst. He gave Sophie a wink earning a blush from her before closing the door behind her.
” that wasn’t fun to watch” Kayla scoffed and Max nodded in agreement.
” Now spill,” Kayla demanded and Sophie suddenly wished the ground could just open up and swallow her whole.
” Can I not do this now?” She pleaded but both eyes glared at her telling her she can’t escape this. Noah wondered why they were behaving like wild animals, Sophie pointed at Noah in the room but they still wouldn’t back down.
” I’ll just text you guys the details,” She said but she suddenly remembered that she doesn’t have a phone so she snatched Kayla’s own and started typing almost everything that happened between her and Chris starting from when she ran into Liam on her way to the restroom. She returned the phone to her and both of them started reading it as if their life depended on it.
” Awwn no wonder he also looked like shit. He must have missed you so much” Max said after reading the note.
” I still don’t trust him. He made you cry” Kayla pouted dropping her phone.
” But it wasn’t his fault” Max argued. Sophie rolled her eyes muttering “Here we go again” under her breath.
” Noah, are you sure you don’t need me to call the doctor?” Sophie said before those two starts another argument right there. She wished they could just date already and stop choking everyone with sexual tension.
” No, he already came when you were out and he said I’m fine now” he replied.
” Do you still want to go home?” Sophie joked and his expression morphed into that of panic.
” Hell no! I need to get that VIP treatment at least once in my life” He shouted. Sophie could not help the laughter. Her exhaustion was catching up on her, she was suddenly tired and felt sleepy. She took a seat on his bed making jokes with Kayla to keep her from sleeping.
The caretaker came and escort Noah to the VIP room after setting his IV drip and settling him down in a wheelchair. Sophie and Kayla packed his things and they followed the caretaker to a much wider room. The room has a comfy bed and exquisite decorations. Noah’s jaw almost hit the floor at the uniqueness of the room.
” You have to marry that man Fifi. I don’t care if you are dating him or not. But if you don’t I will if he is willing” He said as he was tucked into the bed. Sophie and Kayla laughed as they both take their seat on the soft couch in the room, while Max sat on the one opposite them.
Chris came back with Liam who looked like he was coming out of the lion’s den. He was pale and he doesn’t look happy at all. The true realization of having a baby in a few months just dawned on him and he is really scared.
” Hi, Sophie and Sophie’s friends. Hi, Sophie’s brother” He greeted with a cheery smile that failed to reach his eyes.
” Damn! Liam Kingston? Wow,” Kayla shouted excitedly seeing Liam enter the room. Max could already sense her inner girl crush getting activated and it bothers him. He found himself getting angry at the way she was squealing immediately after the young Kingston heir entered the room.
