Yaffe gives a low cry and gets up in a flurry to pick up the scattered papers.
Seeing this, Zeow immediately comes over to help.
“Yaffe, let me help you.”
“No. I can handle it myself.” Yaffe says in a flat voice.
“Are you just going to keep rejecting me like this?”
Yaffe doesn’t stop picking up papers and says quietly, “Or what?”
Her back question gets Zeow and he doesn’t know what to say for a moment.
“What happened then wasn’t like what you think. And what Quaneisha said wasn’t true.”
“We’ve broken up. It’s also true that Quaneisha is your girlfriend now. You don’t need to trouble yourself by bringing up the past.”
“Yaffe, do you have to talk to me in such an attitude? You were like this before, and you’re still like this now.”
Yaffe opens her mouth and is about to say something.
Suddenly, she hears Quaneisha scream, “Yaffe, why are you so shameless? Are you trying to seduce my boyfriend in public?”
At this time, the coffee break is almost over.
Many people are coming back in succession. They are all drawn in by Quaneisha’s high-pitched voice and look at Yaffe with a look of watching a good show.
Yaffe knows these people are here to gossip, but she doesn’t want to be part of such a counterproductive and humiliating event.
However, it is hard for Quaneisha to catch an opportunity to embarrass her. So how could she make it so easy for her to dodge it?
“You look decent on the outside, but I didn’t expect you to be so shameless! Do you think everyone else is blind?”
Yaffe purses her lips and stands up from the floor. Just as she is about to retort, someone says before her.
“When did my fiancée get such bad taste in men like this?” Quinn’s cold voice sounds from the door.
Everyone looks over in the direction of the sound coming from.
Yaffe is no exception. She looks in surprise in the direction of the source of the sound.
And she sees Quinn walking in with a crowd of people.
Quinn narrows his eyes. The late autumn sunlight shines on his face and body with a dazzling glow, as if all the sunlight has gathered on him in an instant.
His deep and starry eyes linger only on Yaffe, oblivious to the others.
He reaches out to help Yaffe up gently as he walks to her side.
After that, he naturally pulls her behind him.
His eyes are cold as a knife as he looks at Quaneisha, “What did you just say, please say it again.”
Quaneisha swallows hard and shudders when she sees Quinn.
Zeow now gets a closer look at Quinn and recognizes him as the man who has pressed Yaffe against the inside wall of the elevator at the hospital. He flares up and questions, “Who are you? What’s your relationship with Yaffe?”
Quinn gives him a sidelong glance, “Are you deaf? Didn’t I just make that clear?”
Zeow hasn’t expected Quinn to say that, and it takes him a while to respond, “Yaffe wouldn’t like someone like you.”
Quinn hasn’t let go of Yaffe’s hand since he has appeared.
Upon hearing that, he smiles elegantly, “Someone like me? Do you know me? You’ve got a beautiful girlfriend. Why are you hanging around in front of my fiancée? And, this young lady, think twice before you speak in the future. I’ll be in a very bad mood next time if you insult my fiancée.”
After saying that, Quinn pulls Yaffe away.
**
Yaffe is brought into the elevator by Quinn.
Quinn reaches out and presses a floor button.
Yaffe quickly withdraws her hand from his, “My work isn’t done.”
“You mean those scripts? I’ve asked someone else to deal with it.” Quinn paused and added, “As for those two, I’ll have someone else deal with them as well.”
Yaffe looks at Quinn and wonders what he meant by “deal with”.
While they are talking, the elevator has stopped.
Quinn pulls Yaffe into a suite and presses Yaffe down onto the couch, “You stay here and rest. I’m going to a meeting and I’ll be right back.”
With that, Quinn gets up and leaves.
As he is almost out of the room, he walks back in.
He pulls his phone out of his pocket and puts it in Yaffe’s hand, “If you’re bored, you can check out Wiphy. It’ got a lot of pictures of that annoying brat in it.”
After that, Quinn walks away.
And he doesn’t turn back halfway this time.
The suite falls silent immediately.
Yaffe slowly lowers her head and checks the phone that is still warm in her hand.
She taps the screen unconsciously.
Wiphy’s delicate and chubby face immediately appears on the screen, smiling at her.
His dark and sparkling eyes are very similar to Quinn’s.
Yaffe’s hand rubs slowly over Wiphy’s face.
Thinking of the last time she has been unhappy with Wiphy, her fingers shrinks back as if they has been burned.
The movement of her retracted hand slides to the next picture.
That is a picture of Quinn and Wiphy together.
Wiphy was sitting on Quinn’s lap and looking at Quinn with his neck craned up high.
Quinn was looking down at him too.
It is so moving and so touching.
In front of Quinn, Wiphy also acts like a normal child and relies on Quinn wholeheartedly.
Yaffe’s focuses on Quinn’s face and her heart skips a beat.
She still remembers the feeling when he held her wrist.
Yaffe rubs her wrist unconsciously.
The feeling of being protected is a little strange and yet very moving to her.
When she was a child, her dad used to be absent from home for a long time on business.
For a long time, she and her mother were the only ones left in the house.
Her mother is a woman who is very dependent on others, so their life pattern was her protecting her mother.
Her mom does the cooking and she does everything else.
As a result, she is used to solving any problems or issue by herself.
Back then, when Zeow broke up with her abroad, she bought a plane ticket by herself to go abroad to find him and reason with him.
She was a 19-year-old girl who had never been abroad before and the first time she went abroad was to confront her ex-boyfriend.
She still remembers the sadness, the fear, and the helplessness and panic of being in a foreign country.
In a sense, Quinn is the first man who pulled her to his back and stands in front of her when she was in trouble.
But how can a man like Quinn be so nice to an obscure resident like her?
What does he want?
She doesn’t want to speculate on Quinn’s intentions, but she knows clearly that she has no time or obligation to fool around with Quinn.
A man like him can get any kind of woman he wants. He is only messing with her because she is new to him.
She won’t forget who she is just because Quinn treats her differently from the outsiders.
With that in mind, Yaffe puts down the phone in her hand. She looks at the clock and realizes that the seminar is almost over, so she gathers her clothes and leaves the suite.
In the elevator, Yaffe sends a message to Zahi.
She tells him that she will wait for him in the car.
