The Queen lies on her bed, covered by a thick peony silk sheet, she seems in a bad condition. Her eyes open widely on her sallow skin, looking blank. The dark circles remain under her puffy eyelids, like those elderly people. Some white foams run out of her chapped mouth every now and then… Only three years, the Queen who used to be strong and radiant, now looks weak and withered. She hears the people coming, then struggles to climb up, “Is it Charlie? Charlie…” She calls his name, frequently.
Charlie seems scared of her appearance right now, he hugs the King’s neck tighter and refuses to come. “Mother, it’s him. He came today to see you…” The King says with a warm smile. A maid comes up to help the Queen up. She stuffs two pink silk pillows on her back, trying to make her comfortable to sit up. However, her weak body can’t help falling against those pillows. “Mother, please get well soon, for little Charlie and everyone else!” The King comforts, choking with sobs. The Queen tries to reach her pale skinny hand to Charlie’s pink face. Firstly, Charlie hides in the King’s chest, then he feels comfortable to reach her, by his little fatty hands. He knows who is good and who is bad here. “Royal grandma, eat more meat, get better!” His words like magic, which cheers the Queen up immediately! Her face shines with a golden smile, which creases her forehead with some deep wrinkles like a goldfish. “Ok, ok, I listen to my sweet Charlie, eat more meat and get better! Ok, ok.”
“Mom, I brought you a talented doctor today, she’s very good at with the acupuncture. She can cure you, mom…” The King invites Wengela all of a sudden, he thinks little Charlie may persuade the Queen to accept some treatments.
On the contrary, she slips down from her pillows then turns her face to another side, “No need, you may leave. And don’t try to comfort me, I know my condition.” She says firmly and coldly. He doesn’t dare to continue, so he brings Charlie up then walks away. “Take a good rest, mother.” He shares a look to Wengela, “Your Queen, I am a servant from the King, I’m here to take care of you, very pleasure to meet you!” Wendy doesn’t leave and pretends to be a servant. The King gets surprised and throws an admiration to Wengela. “Fine, if this is from the King, then thanks for his good heart. Just stay…” The Queen replies calmly. Wendy smiles, “Thank you very much, my dear Queen!”
“Go bring some coals here, I’m afraid it’s cold for the Queen. Look at the rain, it never stops.” The King orders Nan, the Queen’s closest maid here, she nods then follows the King out. “Listen, please remember to support Doctor Wen, and don’t make my mom suspicious.” The King exhorts to Nan patiently. Nan nods with grateful, “Thank you my King, I’m very appreciate what you have done for the Queen!”
Wendy and a few maids stay around, she looks at the Queen, who stares at the ceiling. “My Queen, I used to learn the massage, do you wanna have a try? I can make you relax.” Wendy suggests carefully. The Queen turns to her, looking blank, “Ok, you are from the King, I bet he must order you to look after me well. You know my condition anyway. Come closer to me.” Wendy moves closer, then puts her hands on the Queen’s temples softly. “Hmm, you have warm hands. Good, good!”
Wendy smiles, “I hope you are comfortable with it, my Queen.” Then she begins to massage her head, round and round, ten times around her eyes then twenty times around her temples. Sooner or later, the Queen breathes softly and evenly. Wendy feels a bit of delight, then she decides to check her pulse while she falls asleep. Wendy moves her fingers closer to the Queen’s pulse, despite she moves sometimes, because of her sensitive. Time after time, she makes the Queen in deep sleep when her maid goes back. She gives her a thumb. “I will go to meet some doctors to check on the Queen’s disease, please stay with her before I come back.” Wendy asks. The maid nods, “Go then, just leave her to me, Doctor.”
Wendy walks out quietly, she sees Sung, Zack and Zena remain there. “How’s my grandma?” Sung goes up fast and checks. Wendy shakes her head, “No clue, I must go check with other doctors.” Sung nods then ready to go with her. Zack seems not satisfied, he sneers, “Wow, seems like you care about this doctor a lot, my dear brother. I almost think she is your partner, hah.” Zena pulls his sleeves and asks him to shut up. Sung ignores his judgement, “You think too much, my brother.” Somehow, Jun walks in and steps into their small argument, “Hey, what happened to you guys?! I thought you were good to each other! Come on, you are brothers, don’t fight like that.” Zack looks at him, replies coldly, “Uncle, why you don’t come to see me when you back this time?”
Jun laughs, “Oh, I just thought we could meet here.” Zack nods, “Anyway, let’s drink together someday! I’m quite missing you.” Jun nods, “Good! Let’s drink tonight, what do you say? I also miss drinking with you guys, hah!” Zena wants to join, “May I join, uncle? I want to hear your stories in Edina!” Jun agrees, “That’s good, if you don’t mind to stay with men. Men can be bored.” On the contrary, Zack looks annoyed, “I can’t, I have no mood for tonight. Let’s find another day, me and you!”
“Then what about you, Sung?” Jun asks. “Why not? You have made your choice.” Sung agrees to attend. Zena wants these two brothers to get well soon, she pulls Zack’s sleeves again, persuading, “Can you stay with me then? It’s good to drink together, and enjoying a rainy night! Please…” seeing Zena’s puppy face, Zack then nods and agrees. “Then let’s drink at the Lovesick Palace, I don’t want you to move a lot, due to this cold weather.” Jun nods, “Sure, I follow you guys!” He turns to Wendy, “How about Doctor Wen? Join us?” Wendy nods. Jun seems satisfied now, and walks away.
Wendy and Sung go to meet the doctors together after Jun left. Doctor Shawn and some other doctors are waiting for them. “The Queen gets worse, even blind, this happened after she fell to the ground last year. She doesn’t have much injury outside, it’s all in her brain, some brain damages cause her hand-ache and other problems. We can say she’s totally blind now.” Doctor Shawn says, Wendy nods, and agrees with him. The Queen gets worse all because of the brain hemorrhage, then it causes her blind. He body feels soar due to the lack of nutrition. Her pressure and hallucination, and the depression, make her worse like today. That’s why she doesn’t want to treat herself. To cure her, it’s not easy, without the tool of surgery!
“So what do you say, Doctor Wen?” Shawn checks. “Well, I need to check some books at home. It’s not working to feed her medicine anymore. So better we give her some nutritious soup before we figure how to cure her out.” Shawn agrees, “Yes, we have stopped feeding her medicines, just soup. We will see… She doesn’t have much time.” Wendy cheers him up, “We will find the best way to cure the Queen! Let’s don’t give up for now!”
Shawn sneers, “Well, we can’t even get close to her, how we gonna treat her?” Wendy considers for a while, “We need to tight her up when her condition goes really bad!” Her words shock everyone, they all think she’s crazy… Just same as that passed away Princess, Yasmin.
