Samson was about to reply when a voice said behind them : “Nah we are right here. Come on, you can’t be thinking of leaving now. You just got here. In fact, we have been expecting you”
They all stopped dead in their tracks. Isabella’s heartbeat increased as she turned in the direction the voice had come from.
“Get behind me Belle” Samson whispered.
Two Men stood in front of them. Both of them held cross bows, which were aimed at them. A shot of those wooden arrows into the heart of a vampire could be catastrophic.
“On your knees” one of the Men said. “And don’t try any thing funny. You might be fast, but I’m sure that this arrow will definitely make it into the chest of one of you before you get to the both of us, and I don’t think you want that”
They all hesitated. They were five vampires and their opponent were just two Men, Samson thought They could take them down easily but they were not just humans. They were also hunters and no matter how fast they moved, the man was right. One of them could end up with one of those wooden arrows in the heart. Samson didn’t know if he was willing to take that risk with any of his friends.
“Let’s do as they say” he whispered, as he tried to come up with a plan in his head. They would have done as the man said, but Isabella took a step forward.
“Dad?” she said.
She was referring to one of the hunters in front of them, although Samson didn’t know which one.
“Dad?” Samson repeated In surprise, but it was too late. He had been too distracted by her calling one of the hunters ‘dad’ that he didn’t see the arrow fly towards her. He pushed her out of the way, but it hit her anyways. A second later, Isabella lay on the floor, blood gushing from her wound….
______________
Samson caught Isabella before she slid to the ground. The arrow had gone into her chest and had just missed her heart by a few inches. She would be okay, but the arrow had gone very deep into her chest and she was bleeding so much. It would Hurt like hell when someone tried to pull it out.
“Samson” she gasped as he caught her.
“Don’t speak, baby” Samson said softly as he smoothened her hair. “I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault. I know that I shouldn’t have let you come”
“It’s fine”
“No, it’s not. Look I’m going to pull it out, but it’s gonna Hurt real bad so I want you to stay still so it doesn’t break in there” he said.
Isabella nodded her head and took a deep breath. When Samson pulled it out, she screamed in pain and hated himself even more. He blamed himself. He shouldn’t have let her come. It was such a stupid thing to do. The wound would heal and he would stay right there with her till it did. Nothing else mattered to him but her in that moment.
Meanwhile, Mark, Raymond and Vanessa were ready for a fight. The damn hunters had Hurt one of their own, and they were not going to let it slide. The other one dropped his crossbow and took off, but one who had shot Isabella stood his ground. He fired another arrow, but Raymond caught it. Seeing that he couldn’t stand a chance Jeremiah tried to run, but he bumped into Jacob who had just returned with his friends when he heard the noise
“Going somewhere?” Jacob asked as he grabbed the man by his shirt and hurled him into the wall. His crossbow fell from his hand as he scrambled back on his feet. Jacob grinned devilishly when he saw the fearful look in his eyes.
“Not so though anymore, are we?” he asked as he grabbed him again. This time pinning him to the wall and trapping him there.
“We have to talk to him, Saunders” Mark reminded him, but Jacob wasn’t listening. He was a bully and always took advantage of every opportunity to Hurt people.
“Where are your your hunter buddies? I thought there would be more of you. What’s the matter? Got no friends?” Jacob mocked. “Did you seriously think that you would attack my friends and go scot free? Who’s the hunter now, moron”
“My son Evan was killed by your kind for no reason. You all deserve what ever you get?”
“Are there more of you here?” Jacob asked Jeremiah, ignoring his comment about his son. He tightened his hold on Jeremiah, just enough to make it harder for him to breathe. “Speak, and don’t waste my time”
“The other guy. Who is he and where can we find him?” Mark cut in. “Believe me the earlier you tell us what we want to know, the better it’s going to be for you. Who knows, we might even let you go”
Jacob scoffed. “There’s no way that is going to happen” he said.
“Do your worse” Jeremiah said, and spat at Jacob. “I am not afraid of you.”
For Jacob, getting spat at by a mere human was just too much insult for his ego, and he didn’t hesitate to react. He leaned closer to Jeremiah and whispered in his ear: “I was the one who killed your son by the way, drained him of every drop of blood in his body, and guess what, I wasn’t even hungry. Just did it for the fun of it and boy, what fun it was. I wonder if your blood would taste as good as his”
He wanted a reaction from Jeremiah, and he got one.
Jeremiah took a deep breath. He was surrounded by vampires and he knew that there was no way he was going to leave this place alive. But at least he could take down his son’s killer. That was after all, the reason why he had come to Greeneville in the first place.
“You will never get to find out” he replied. All the time when Jacob had been talking, he had quietly withdrawn a stake from underneath his shirt where it was hidden. As a vampire hunter, you always had to be prepared. He moved fast, knowing that this was going to be his only chance. He drove the stake deep into Jacob’s chest with all his strength and everyone watched in surprise as Jacob suddenly let go of him.
