They had to park the cars down the road and then continue their journey on foot. The night was cold as it had rained that evening. Which was good because everyone was indoors. The last thing they wanted was humans to get hurt or witness a fight. Best to do this as low key as possible.
They could see the faint shadows of towering, tall trees side by side in the woods. All the critters are asleep and there were no sounds of angry drivers racing down the nearby highway, or shouts of children playing. The faint howling of the wind sounded like ghosts swarming the city on Halloween.
Soon, Jacob and his friends were leading them into the woods and Isabella shivered. Samson sensed it and he put an arm around her waist.
“I shouldn’t have listened to you” he whispered. “You should have stayed at home”
“Too bad it’s too late for you to send me back now” she replied. “Why did we come without weapons anyways?”
“Because we are vampires” Samson replied. “We have claws, and I’m here to protect you anyways so you don’t need one”
“Enough with the love talks. We are not here for that” Jacob said. “I wonder why you brought her Samson. She is only going to slow us down. The fact that she’s now a vampire doesn’t mean that she isn’t weak”
Samson was about to reply when Isabella cut in. Usually she ignored Jacob’s comments, but tonight she was having none of it.
“You must be such a lonely and miserable person, Jacob… Or what ever the hell your name is. That’s why you try to inflict as much pain as possible on other people. I suggest you get a hobby and some real friends. Maybe that will help you get over your depression”
Jacob stopped moving and turned around, while Samson and his friends giggled.
“You are sprouting wings now eh. Are you really referring to me?” he asked.
“Yes she was” replied Raymond, who was in no mood to be in the woods that evening replied. “You are not going to do anything about it, so keep moving and please shut the fuck up. We are supposed to be quiet, and why the fuck are we even here? Do you even know where you are going?”
“This is where their hideout is… Or so I was told” Jacob replied.
Soon, Isabella noticed an old abandoned, house far off in the distance, in desperate need for a new paint job. She shivered, as though, ice had replaced her spine. It looked like one of those haunted houses you saw in the movies. The cold air enveloped her entire body. The multiple layer of clothing could not protect against the deathly cold, and Samson tightened his hold on her. The walkway leading up to house were cracked. Weeds and dandelions poked out from these cracks. Vines formed a twisted maze upon the side of house, reaching their tentacles towards the roof. The house’s walls showed black decay by neglect. Splotches of original paint hinted at the house former prosperity. Cobwebs covered the corners of the doors, tiny black spiders threading towards their prey. The house looked fit for the kings and queens of the supernatural.
As they approached the house, they could smell the old musty smell of the house. When they stepped on the front steps of the house, they could hear creaks from underneath the floorboards. With every step, it seems like the creaking got louder. Samson moved forward and wrapped his hands around the door handle and slowly pulled open the unlocked door.
The door begrudgingly creaked open. A musty, dank order creep into their noses. The house was dead silent except for the intermittent creaks and moans. Black and brown mold dotted the ceiling in clusters, evident of rain seeping through the roof. They quietly entered the dark living room. Wallpaper lay curled on the floor. Picture frames hanged off-centered. Sharp shadows roamed around the room. A misplaced grand bookcase stood by the corner of the room, undisturbed for a long time.
Samson looked around. This wasn’t what he expected, and he began to wonder if Jacob got the right place or if this was some sort of sick joke. If it was, no one would be able to stop him from teaching Jacob a lesson. Cobwebs lingered in every way, and antique furniture layered sat perfectly arranged in the living room. Cautiously, they all walked farther into the house to explore. With every heavy step and pressure on the floor boards, it felt as if the house would collapse on top of them.
They decided to split up. Jacob and his friends went to check out the other parts of the house while Samson, Isabella and his friends made their way into the kitchen. An old wooden table sat in the corner, along with matching chairs. Water dripped out of the faucet in the corner. Isabella opened a cabinet, but there are only more cobwebs. It didn’t even look like anyone lived there.
Samson was thinking the same thing. Sneaking into the place was pretty easy. Guess the Crack heads were out… If they were ever here. Or maybe Jacob got the wrong information. This is what you got when you listened to an idiot like Jacob.
He was ready to leave, when Mark pointed at the hallway. They all followed and wandered into a room which was obviously used as a cell. Vanessa pulled on a cord, and a dim light came on in the room. There were so many weapons hanging from the walls, and even on the small table. Isabella had never been to such a creepy place in her entire life. She stayed close to Samson, almost regretting why she had come, but Samson’s presence made her feel a little safe. There were blood stains on the wall and Isabella couldn’t even imagine the horrible things that must have occurred in this room.
“This means that they were here. Probably used the place to keep the vampires they captured. It’s a nice spot because people don’t come here often. But looks like they are out. The place looks empty” Mark said softly. “What do we do now?”
Isabella agreed. No one was here, and she was already anxious and couldn’t wait to get out of this place.
