Abigail could feel the time stop, all eyes were on herself. What were they just talking about? Who did Bill want?
From the way they were looking at her, she knew the answer: her!
Bill’s gaze was very determined, and Joshua’s were dark, his eyebrows were frowned, and his gaze were so sharp that they could have went through her, as if he was trying to get answers by just staring at her.
“That’s it?” Joshua humphed ice cold, Abigail was not worth it for him.
“Not just that easy, but it’s all things you can do, they are very easy requirements.” Bill took his gaze back from Abigail and locks eyes with Joshua again, a new fight about to come up.
“I hope that I can meet Granny more often.”
He added this to his requirements, and from that it was obvious how much Mrs. Caunter meant to him.
The room turned silent again, and Abigail didn’t even dare to move at all, even Granny seemed to have noticed that something was going on, because she just sat there silently.
“That is not possible!” It took what felt like a century for Joshua to answer, and his answer was very determined for Bill not to get this one, “I won’t allow that!”
This was not what people expected from him, and even Lambert, who usually didn’t show anything on his face, widened his eyes.
This was a good deal for Joshua to make, he would get the business deal, and the only thing he would lose is Abigail, and some time with Granny.
Anyone stupid would understand how much this deal made sense.
“Why? Are you in love with her?” Bill recovered from his surprise, and smiled to Joshua. He pointed at Abigail, and asked Joshua his question.
“How could I!” Joshua denied it again, and didn’t hold back to throw Abigail another hatred look, showing her all of his feelings.
Abigail’s heart sank, her mood was even lower than before. Even though she knew that this would be his answer, but it felt much worse to hear him say it aloud.
The baby in her tummy must have felt it too, because it gave her a hard kick. Was he blaming her? Or was he blaming his father to be such a heartless person?
Abigail lowered her head slightly, and wiped off the tears on her face while she used Mrs. Caunter’s dishes as an excuse.
“Granny, come, let’s eat.” She finally managed to gather herself, and put all of her attention on Mrs. Caunter.
Bill looked towards Abigail, his eyes feeling for her, the smile on her face could not cover the sadness that she was actually feeling. To avoid the tears to roll down her eyes, Abigail stared at Mrs. Caunter’s face, and did not look anywhere else.
“If you don’t love her, why are you torturing her?”
Bill asked, his voice filled with love for Abigail.
“That’s none of your business!” Joshua was very angry, he got up from his chair quickly, and demanded from Abigail, “You have ten minutes to finish up and bring Granny out, we are going home!”
Watching Joshua leave the house, Bill sat back in his chair, defeated, his eyes were still looking at Abigail’s small figure.
Ten minutes later, Abigail took Mrs. Caunter out, and Bill was following them.
“Alright, I gotta go.” Bill stopped, his gaze still resting on Abigail, “Don’t worry, I will get you out.” He said in front of Joshua, then he gave her a hug, and a kiss on her forehead.”
Then, Bill turned around and left, his sadness almost visible in his shadow.
“We can go home now.” Abigail lowered her head unnaturally, she didn’t want to see Joshua’s expression.
Joshua kept quiet because of Mrs. Caunter, and took her over from Abigail’s hands, he walked forward without even looking back.
Was he going to abandon her again? Abigail stood where she was, and didn’t know what to do, would she need someone else to save her again, just like last time?
There was a bright purple color rushing in front of her eyes, the body that passed her had run into her, but that purple shadow didn’t seem to care about this little incident, and ran right towards Joshua.
“Joshua, oh my god, it was so scary!” Harry looked afraid, and very pitiful, her eyes were so wide and showed genuine horror.
Without noticing, she pushed Mrs. Caunter to the side, and gave Joshua a right hug, while she started crying.
“Joshua, just now, there were a bunch of people, they were about to destroy my visage!”
Harry’s tears were running down her face, and she looked genuinely scared, which showed that she wasn’t lying. Abigail heard police sirens in the far corner.
Joshua frowned, and pushed Mrs. Caunter to Lambert, “Take her home.”
Abigail followed them, and tried to go home with Mrs. Caunter.
“Where do you want to go?” She caught up about half way, when Joshua yelled to her, and she suddenly stopped in her walk, as if there was a pause button that was hit. She watched Mrs. Caunter and Lambert leave.
“Is there something you need?” He was hugging Harry, who needed his attention, and Abigail didn’t know what he could want from her.
Joshua acted as if he didn’t hear her, the police sirens were getting closer, and Harry’s phone started ringing, “I am okay, Mr. Caunter is here, yes, you can go to the police station to put down your records, I am so tired.”
“Let’s go, and take a rest.” Joshua was pushing Harry, and completely ignored Abigail’s existence.
“Joshua, they want me to stay away from you, Joshua, who are they? I am so scared!” Harry threw her sexy body into Joshua’s arms again, leaving her lipstick marks on his neck, looking for comfort.
“They came prepared, I don’t wanna go back, they are going to find me there!” Harry stopped in her walk, and hugged Joshua tightly while she started trembling, “They had vitriol, I was only lucky that there were so many people, and I ran away quickly.”
She was still in shock, and didn’t even care that she messed up her make up while crying, she kept talking about what happened, and never let go of Joshua’s hands.
Joshua actually wanted to push her away, but when he saw Abigail, he turned the push into a hug again. He rubbed Harry’s back lovingly, comforting her.
“Don’t worry, I am here to protect you.”
He said to Harry, but his eyes were looking at Abigail.
Her tiny body was bend forward a little bit, and she pulled on her dress to cover her little baby bump. Harry was a lucky girl, at least she had someone by her side when she was feeling bad.
“So, I…” Harry pointed at herself, trying to make sure of her position.
“You can live at my place from now on, I will have guards making sure that you are safe.” Joshua said, but he kept staring at Abigail, while he arranged everything for Harry.
“But, I need to work!” Harry’s horror turned into complacent, she never thought that she could get so much out of such a horrible incident. But, she still needed to act out her independence, so she protested.
“That’s alright, the guards won’t leave your side, until those people have been caught.” Joshua’s eyes were significant, Abigail had no idea what he was trying to do, but she felt a shiver running down her back.
Why was he staring at her all the time while talking to Harry? He knew that she had no power to do any of that.
Abigail looked weak and small under the despicable gaze of Joshua, just like a dead mouse that was played around by the cat.
“Yeah.” Harry nodded her head, and leaned on Joshua’s chest, her face showed a satisfied smile.
Abigail hesitated for a while before she followed the two of them and got on the car to go back to the Caunter’s house.
Annie was so mad, she was almost going crazy, when she saw Harry leaning closely on Joshua’s chest, and the two of them walking into the Caunter’s house. Her fists were clenched so tight that her palm was paining her.
Didn’t her father send people to take care of her? Why was she here, not a hair on her head was lost?
Joshua announced that Harry would be moving into their house, and she immediately acted like the woman of the house, showing a smile to everyone in the round.
“I hope we can all get along in the future!”
She blinked towards Annie, and then, went back into her own room in company of Joshua.
“What the hell happened?” Annie grabbed Abigail by her arms, and interrogated her.
Abigail tried to take her arms back, she felt sorry for Annie, since she was still Joshua’s fiance, but she didn’t get anything till now, it was really sad. But Abigail also didn’t want to be part of their drama, so, she told the story from a neutral point of view.
“Why did you not stop them?” Annie did not only not let her go, but she tightened her grip on Abigail’s arms, her long nails burying into her flesh.
“Ouch!” She knitted her brows, and told Annie. Annie finally let go of her, but she moved her hands to Abigail’s throat.
“Tell me, why didn’t you do anything? You did this on purpose! You want her to be here to make my life miserable? You must be really happy right now, you think this will bring me down? Not that easy!”
Her eyes were spitting fire, the hate and the anger were too obvious in her eyes. Abigail pressed her lips together, and pulled Annie’s hands away from her throat.
“Miss Annie, this is not in my powers.” She looked towards the stairs, and said what has been on her mind for a while, “Miss Annie, I can see that you really like Mister Caunter, but love is not something that you can force onto someone. If he doesn’t feel anything for you, then that’s how it is, and the one to get hurt in the end is always going to be you. I think you should let go, since now there is still hope for you.”
“What the hell do you mean?” Annie’s long nails were burying themselves into Abigail’s shoulder, and she started shaking her back and forth, her face pulled into a grimace, “What do you know? Tell me!”
“I…” Of course she knew her secrets now, but, she won’t tell her, and she didn’t want to tell her either. She just wants to push through these three years, that is the best she can think of. So Abigail shook her head, “I don’t know anything, I just know that you really like him, I , I don’t want you to get hurt, I don’t think anyone innocent should get hurt.”
“You don’t need to stick your nose into my business.” Annie pushed her away, and looked towards the stairs, her gaze full of hate, “Joshua is mine, he will forever be mine, and this fucking Harry, she is going to pay for it!”
Abigail couldn’t keep her balance after the push, and bumped against a chair, her waist hit it hard. By the time she stood up while enduring the pain, Annie was long gone.
She has already hurt so many people, Abigail didn’t understand Annie at all. It was so obvious that Joshua didn’t like her, but she would still put so much energy into trying to get him. She didn’t only hurt others, but she was getting hurt as well. Was it worth it?
