When her phone rang she saw that it was her father’s number, and she picked up.
“Hi Dad, has it been taken care of?”
“That’s great.”
“You know how serious this matter is, none of them are allowed to remain, every single one of them need to be killed!”
“Who cannot be allowed to remain?” Stacy came hopping, and Annie immediately hung up the phone.
“Hey, Annie, you look weird today.” Stacy noticed the different dressing on her, and made Annie nervous with it.
“This must be the work of my brother!” Stacy pulled on Annie’s clothes, which were covering the bruises on her. Now Stacy gave her the perfect excuse, she pulled back her shirt and said shy, “Stop looking, this is embarrassing, and all because of your brother.”
Stacy thought she guessed right and laughed happy like a flower.
“It seems that you two are getting closer to each other, I am guessing, there are good news! I need to call Dad and tell him!”
That was good. She was satisfied that Stacy left her alone, and she didn’t think that she could turn this unfortunate situation into ambiguity, she succeeded again in lying to Stacy and Albert. And she believed that she will be lucky enough and totally win over Joshua.
But before that, she needed to get rid of another person, Abigail.
“Ah, ach!” Abigail sneezed, her nose was itchy, there must be someone talking bad about her.
Was it her sister? She must be blaming her that she was alone abroad. They made each other promise that no matter how hard life will be on them, they will help each other finish their school.
When her sister was sin school, she never forgot to bring home her notes, she wrote down every word the teacher mentioned, everything ordered so that she would understand it without any problems.
Her sister had really good memory, anything she took a look of, would be burned into her brain. She never had the habit of taking notes, but for her, she managed to fill more than 20 notebooks.
She said often, “I am going to be your ears, and your eyes. Whatever the teacher says in class, I will bring it to you.”
She passed her board exams, and half of it had to be dedicated to her sister.
Even if the principal agreed, she didn’t apply for any major, the money wasn’t enough, so she would work hard to let her sister finish her school. And when she was done with her exams, she didn’t even go to check her marks, it didn’t matter what grades she got, the result would be the same for her.
The initial plan was for her to attend community college, at least this way she would be able to learn architecture at night. Sadly…
Until today, Abigail never blamed it on her sister, that car always had some problems, she knew that. She should blame herself, that she let her sister take such a risk, and took the burden for her.
Time passed, and the two sisters grew on each other.
Breslin, we haven’t seen in three months, are you alright?
Even if you were cursing me now, I would be happy about it. I wish I could hear your voice, I still remember you on stage during the debate, you were great!
Everyone knew about her sister’s ability to talk.
She sighed, and pulled herself back to reality. When she raised her head she saw the dark cold living room, she didn’t even notice that she had left her room.
Mrs. Caunter went to a nursing home these days, and Joshua didn’t allow her to go with her. So now, Abigail didn’t have much to do, at least her body didn’t have much to do, but her heart was now busy thinking about her sister.
As long as they had Will, Breslin would be alright, but her heart…
A heart that has been through a lot, and now after what happened, she wondered if it will ever heal again.
Abigail hoped that her sister would.
Annie came tiptoeing down the stairs. She went into Abigail’s room and just put something of really high price under her pillow.
This was going to be the beginning of a wonderful drama, she would be a murderer, and a dirty woman, would Joshua still like her?
She put on a evil smile, and walked faster, passed Abigail and sat down on the couch.
“Abigail, oh, no, Michelle, go get me something from upstairs!” She smiled evil, and Abigail was confused. Clearly, she was interrupted in her thoughts.
“Didn’t you hear me? I want something! Go get it for me!” She yelled and pointed upstairs, “I am going to visit Joshua, go get me my crystal earrings.”
“That’s… not my task.” Abigail has been treated like a main in this house, but no one ever asked her to fetch something, she thought it to be weird.
Annie patted her hand on the leg, looking like the woman in this house. “Before we let you look after Granny, so there was no need for you to do work, but now that she is in a nursing home, are you still gonna be lazy? Or are you trying to depend on Joshua and marry him? Be more realistic, and now go!”
She never thought about being the new Mrs. Caunter! This was more than unrealistic for her, and of course, she never wanted to be Joshua’s wife either.
“If you don’t listen to me, should I get Joshua and teach you a lesson himself?” Annie’s voice got louder, she already totally forgot about how she looked when she was begging Abigail to let her stay.
Abigail thought about what she said, she was here to pay back her debts, now that Mrs. Caunter didn’t need her anymore, she shouldn’t just sit around. Abigail nodded and said, “Alright!”
After lunch, Annie was back in the Caunter house. She didn’t go to visit Joshua, because she never got the approval from him. No body was allowed to visit him without him saying so.
She went out and took a big round before coming back.
Then she passed Abigail who was cleaning the floor, and left the smell of her perfume. She went upstairs, but not later than a minute she came running down again.
“Oh my god, there was a burglar in our house! My stuff is gone!” She yelled loudly, she startled not only Abigail, but also Rowena, who came to ask.
“Miss Annie, have you lost something?” Rowena looked at Annie coldly.
Annie looked very furious, and said, “My father gave me a diamond necklace a few days ago, I left in in the cosmetic box, now when I went upstairs, it was gone! Oh my, it was worth 200 grand!”
Abigail stood up straight, now that she was pregnant, her body was getting tired easily, and she had to move slower than usual. She was also afraid that she might hurt her baby, so when she was working on the floor, she would get up once in a while and take a rest.
Rowena never said anything to her, she also didn’t give her work to do. Cleaning the floor was a task she gave herself to do. Rowena looked at her suspiciously, but she still didn’t say anything.
Abigail went to get the earrings for Annie, she saw her box, but even then, the necklace was not inside. She didn’t say it, and thought that maybe Annie just put it somewhere else.
Annie on the other hand has been planning this for a while.
Rowena said fairly, “Miss Annie, have you maybe put it somewhere and forgot?”
“Not possible! Daddy just gave it to me, it’s so expensive, I didn’t even dare to wear it yet. It was always in the box!” She rolled her eyes, and her eyes laid on Abigail. “The security in this house is so good, there wouldn’t be an intruder, Rowena, go and find out who has been in my room, I am going to check each one of them!”
“But…” Rowena was uncomfortable.
“200 grand, if you don’t get it checked, are you going to pay me the money?” Annie didn’t care if Rowena was one of the elder help in this house, she didn’t treat her any different than the others.
“Since it’s what you want, I will let someone check it.” Rowena frowned. She has been in this house for 10 years, and even Joshua has always been respectful to her, apparently, this Miss Annie didn’t know any manners.
“I have been in there, but I didn’t see any necklace.” Abigail thought the situation to be awkward and said.
“That’s not possible! You probably liked it and just took it! If I remember it right, you are the only one who has been in my room!” Annie successfully blamed it on her.
“Miss Abigail wouldn’t.” Rowena said. In the whole of Caunter house, only her and Mrs. Caunter called her by her own name.
From there, her position in this house was obvious.
Abigail didn’t talk much, but she would never just take something that wasn’t hers, she wouldn’t even touch it. Rowena couldn’t believe that she was someone like that.
“If she didn’t, then who? She comes from a poor family, if she sees something nice, why wouldn’t she take it?” Stacy came from upstairs, her cold eyes on Abigail, and stood next to Annie. “Rowena, just go and check her room.”
Stacy’s suggestion was exactly what Annie wanted.
“What are you all doing? So much action.” A heavy voice was heard, and Bill entered from the gate. He was still dressed in his white suit, handsome as usual.
He had his usual smile on the face, his eyes squeezed by it.
Stacy’s eyes flashed, and she smiled immediately, “Bill, why are you here? I missed you so much!”
She flew to him like a butterfly, and threw herself into his hug.
She has been with Annie for too long, and was learning too much from her, when she hugged Bill, he turned his face to the side, otherwise she would have planted a kiss on him.
“Stacy darling, are you good?” Bill asked Stacy, but his eyes rested on Abigail, and gave her a silent smile.
“Good, good!” Stacy hung herself on him, and refused to leave him. He took both her hands and pulled her towards Rowena.
“What happened? I heard you want to search rooms, who’s room?”
“Annie lost something, and we are sure it was that woman who stole it, we want to search her room!” Stacy took a step towards Abigail, and pointed her finger on her.
“I didn’t.” Abigail said a little angry, she never took anything from anyone, this was a huge accusation for her.
“Well, what can I do.” Annie didn’t back off at all, she almost wanted to go and grab her necklace from under Abigail’s pillow immediately.
“That’s a good idea.” Bill was smirking, as if he understood something, and nodded, “Why don’t we go together?”
He put one arm around Abigail and gave her the look that said “don’t worry”, and pushed her towards her room.
“You…!” Stacy stomped her feet when she saw Bill’s arm around Abigail’s shoulder.
All of them walked towards Abigail’s room, and Annie already looked as if she succeeded. She led them towards the bed.
