Zoe wandered around in the apartment anxiously. Mary hung up the phone and looked at Zoe with worry, “Zoe, there’s still no news about where she went.”
“She has nowhere else to go except for the Reed family. Where could she be”
Zoe stayed silent for a long time. She dialed a number without any other choice.
As soon as the phone was connected, she asked hurriedly, “Did Selina go find you”
Darren’s eyes paused for a second, “No. What’s wrong”
“She went to the Reed family for dinner yesterday, then we couldn’t contact her. I am thinking about calling the police now.”
Darren made a gesture to pause the meeting. Stella and the others looked at him.
He walked out of the meeting room, “Murray, locate Selina for me.”
“Yes, sir.”
Three minutes later, Zoe hung up the phone. She lay on the sofa and sighed in relief.
Mary came forth, “How is it”
“We can’t do anything now. She was taken to City D by someone.” She rubbed between her eyebrows. Only Sophia Taylor in City D could be related to Selina. What was going on with this. Was Selina kidnapped by her rival in love
“City D”
“Go negotiate and push off Selina’s activities for three days.”
Mary took notes as she asked, “Then should we go to City D”
“City D is too large and it’s not easy for us to find someone. Let’s wait for the news. She will definitely call us when she’s safe.”
…
Selina was pushed out of the car and she staggered before she was able to maintain balance.
Looking around the unfamiliar city around her, she did not bring anything with her. It was now October, the wind blew over, it was so cold that it made her tremble.
The sky was turning dark soon.
She thought Jacky was going to deal with her. However, she was just dumped on the way with her belongings taken away.
This was really nothing to her, and she wouldn’t flinch just because of such level of threatening.
“Thief!”
She heard someone shouting. A man ran into her direction.
Selina suddenly felt the call of justice. She kicked harshly while the man rushed forth.
When the thief fell over, she was trying to catch the thief, but her strength was too weak to do that.
“Damn bitch, this is none of your business!” The thief took out a knife and swept across her.
Luckily, she was fast enough to dodge that, but her clothes were still cut open and a red scar was left on her arm. If it was cut harder, her arm would be done.
“This is City D, you cannot run away!”
The thief rushed to her fiercely. Selina was so scared that she stepped back hurriedly.
“Police, don’t move!”
Hearing the voice of the policemen, the thief turned around to run away. Selina hurriedly pick up the bag on the ground.
A woman who was breathing heavily came over, “Miss, thank you, hm…”
Selina turned around and was about to say “you’re welcome”. The woman’s hand pressed on the former’s shoulder and exhaled with her back bent.
Selina was so shocked that her mouth widened when she saw the woman’s face.
Darren’s mother
When they married, Darren’s biological mother showed up once. It wasn’t until then that Selina knew that Mrs. Reed of the Reed family was Darren’s step mother, and even was Darren’s younger brother with the same father but a different mother.
It was not the same as the ordinary upperclass family. Darren had a good relationship with his step mother and brother, but a terrible relationship with his biological father.
Because of this, he didn’t return the Reed family in the City D. Instead, he went to City A and founded his own company.
Darren’s mother Lissandra Auton, stood straight, she had soft and smooth long hair, at the age around fifty, but she still looked beautiful. She was more refined than Tracy.
“You are hurt!”
Selina shook her head nervously, “I’m fine.”
Selina had not paid too much attention to Lissandra, so she didn’t remember whether the latter was easy to get along with.
How would Lissandra be here
“Have I seen you somewhere” Lissandra looked at Selina in confusion.
Selina held her breath nervously. How would they meet before
A policeman came over right on time, “This thief is a repeater. Could you two please come to the police station as witnesses”
“Sure, no problem.”
Lissandra agreed without hesitation. Selina had no better choices, so she could only go to the police station as well.
After testifying the thief and recorded their words, the two walked out of the station. The sky was already dark completely.
The autumn wind was blowing continuously!
“Snee!” Selina rubbed her nose.
“You do not wear much. Go home early, okay”
“Uh, sure.”
As Lissandra was leaving, she suddenly turned around and looked at Selina from up to down, “Girl, don’t tell me you are homeless.”
Selina smiled awkwardly, “It seems to be so today.”
“Eh… Then how about you stay at my home for one night, as the reward for catching the thief for me.”
“Is, is this alright”
“Let’s go.”
Just like this, she was picked back home on her way, and it was in Darren’s house in City D.
It was a quadrangle dwellings in the Eastern part of the city. It was very quiet here. Chrysanthemums were planted in the garden, they looked very beautiful.
“Madam, may I use the phone I wanna make a call.”
She had been lost for a day and a night, Zoe was must be terribly worried. Thinking of Zoe’s bad temper, Selina felt her spine frozen. She would absolutely be yelled at by Zoe.
“No problem, it is in the room, go ahead.”
She walked in the room and picked up the phone on the table, dialing Zoe’s number.
“Hello”
“It’s me.”
Zoe sat up when she heard Selina’s voice. The former began to yell, “Selina Reed, you finally show up. I have never been with any actress as troublesome as you are. Which actress will be kidnapped by someone so frequently”
“Ah, how do you know I am kidnapped”
She hadn’t told Zoe about it, how would the latter know
“Well…” Zoe patted her brain. She accidentally spilled the beans. She mumbled a few words, “You haven’t shown up for such a long time. What other possibility could that be except for being kidnapped Who took you away”
“Sophia Taylor’s father, Jacky Taylor.”
“That retired boss of the gang”
It was indeed a boss of the gang. Selina swallowed instantly. Then did she just escape her doom by luck
“Hm. But now everything’s fine. He let me go. Pick me up tomorrow. Although he let me go, all my stuffs were taken away. I am now living in… A friendly person’s house.”
“Okay, send me the address.”
After talking to Zoe, Selina hung the phone. Before she walked outside, she saw the photos hanging on the walls. Those were Darren’s photos at a young age.
Selina couldn’t help moving close to the wall. The photos were already yellow. They were old. Although she had never seen his appearance during childhood, she still recognized him immediately.
Even in high school photos, he already possessed the aura he had currently. He was lofty, handsome with his eyes vigorous.
“My son is very handsome, right”
Selina was scared to shrink. She turned around and saw Lissandra standing behind. Selina apologized hurriedly, “Sorry Madam, I shouldn’t touch anything.”
“It’s okay. I haven’t been back for many years. This time, I come back to see those photos. I missed them very much. He was very cute when he was a child. He was like a sticky rice ball, but he tried to learn from the adults and pretended to be mature. But whenever he was teased, his face blushed. Unlike now, he wasn’t cute at all.”
“That cute”
Selina was full of curiosity as she heard the lady talked about Darren’s childhood.
“Yeah, he didn’t know how to draw. During his first year in the elementary school, the teacher asked the class to pain something. He lied to his grandpa to paint for him and then turned it in, saying that it was his own work. My father painted traditional paintings, and he thought his grandson wanted to appreciate his work, so he drew a picture of swallowing the rivers and mountains.”
It could be imagined what the situation was when littler Darren took out the painting in front of the class.
Lissandra looked lost in her memory. Selina looked at the photos one by one, until the photo showed the way he looked in high school. He wore the school uniform, and a basketball rotating in his hand. The corner of Selina’s mouth curled up into a mild smile.
It was as though something buried in her memory suddenly broke the outer glasses in her mind. Why did she feel that the person in the picture looked so familiar.
