Looking up at his smiling eyes, Mary gritted her teeth, “Let go.”
They held their place for a while, and he still didn’t let go.
Mary’s eyes were cold. Shunning him didn’t mean fearing. Her fists swung with brutal force but he did not budge at all.
Seeing the veins on her head throbbing, Norman slacked his hold on her and Mary unexpectedly fell towards the hedge.
Ralph looked up behind the hedge. “Who is it?” His voice was steady but intimidating.
The busted Mary glared at Norman, irritation flashed across her eyes as she was thinking of a way to get out of her this. The footsteps were coming closer and closer.
“Come out.” Ralph’s voice sounded again, which was like a pebbled thrown into a calm lake, causing a slight ripple.
Norman didn’t think too much as he put a hand around her waist and whisked her away.
The cold wind was bellowing beside their ears but the warmth radiated from her back made her feel safe. They landed before she could comprehend anything.
Mary pushed away Norman uncomfortably, her eyes taking in everything around her. They were in a forest and in front of them was a steep cliff.
“Why did you take me here?” Mary frowned as the stifling air around them made her uncomfortable.
Norman didn’t answer her questions, instead he said lowly, “Come out now.”
Just then, a few birds wailed across the silent skin, flailing their wings and making the quiet forest creepy.
Mary felt the air around her suddenly became stifling and threatening in an instant.
Mary had an uneasy feeling as her forehead throbbed. Before she could open her eyes, there were swooshing sounds from both sides of the forest.
Endless black-clad warriors flew out. The valley was shone with sunlight before; but it darkened as more men fanned out beside the two people, surrounding them.
Without a word they all pulled out their swords, the cold glint of metal making the valley bright once again.
“Attack.” The warriors flew towards them like lightning as someone shouted an order.
Mary tried to dodge out of the way but another group of men in black robes appeared in front of her, they were more hostile and aggressive than the former ones. She pulled out her sword and faced their attack.
The two flocks of assassins mixed together, their clashing swords glaring in the sunlight. One by one the assassins fell down, and the blood splattered on the trees, staining the moist ground.
The steely smell of blood in the air was nauseating. But Norman in Mary’s eyes was rather undisturbed, like this was all a show.
And he was the audience.
Frowning, Mary swept her cool eyes around, her resentment towards Norman deepening.
It’s the second time today that she was in a dilemma because of him. Now she is caught up in a bloodbath.
He is like a curse.
As Mary took a step back, an assassin beside her took the chance and stabbed her in the back, his eyes murderously glinting.
Mary felt coldness behind her back, and the hair at the back of her neck stood up, making her feels a sense of dread. She saw Norman grabbed a thin leaf in his fingers and threw it at her. She felt a slight pain beside her ear before she could react. Then a stand of hair fell onto the ground.
With her heart beating against her chest wildly, Mary gasped loudly and the coldness around told her that she was still alive.
Turning around her frigid body, she saw a man staring at her with his eyes popping wide, the leave stuck deeply between his brows, but there was not a drop of blood in sight.
“Thanks.” Mary nodded. Looking aside, she saw a number of black robes that appeared first were at advantage due to their vast amount, and the number of the guards who were on Norman’s side were decreasing.
Grabbing the assassin’s sword, Mary flitted into battle, wring necks left and right before they could react.
Watching their companions going down one by one, the black robes were looking at Mary in fear, their intent to kill her intensified even more.
She killed a man within ten moves.
She’s just a woman!
This was a great insult.
The black robes concentrated mainly on Mary, and all powers were used to attack her.
She cursed inwardly as she leaned towards Norman, the protection around her followed as she moved.
There were no screams, only the sound of weapons clashing. The sounds were like the howls of a wolf, making people cower in fright even without the bloody scene in front of them.
