“Miss Mary, I am supposed to bring you your daily medicine.” A servant girl strode in holding a cup of medicine firmly in her hands. Without looking at Mary or waiting for her reaction, the girl rudely placed the cup on the table.
“Just leave the medicine here.” Mary glanced at her and replied coolly.
“Yes, milady.” The girl’s brow furrowed. She was not supposed to leave, but the side consort gave her strict orders to watch Lady Mary take her medicine. Today Lady Mary was like a changed woman; her steely look was making her tremble.
The maid looked back at Mary before she went out the door, nearly exclaiming in surprise and forgetting her mission, who was this woman in front of her?
The woman was sitting cross-legged on the bed; her face was peaceful and beautiful. Every look was picturesque. It was then she shocked speechless, why had this fool changed so much?
But she didn’t dare to dwell on this now. The most important thing right now is to report this unbelievable news to the side consort. The maid made up her mind, and ran to the side consort’s chamber quivering.
The atmosphere in the room slowly went stifling.
“What, do you need me to bow and invite you in?” Mary said abruptly, her voice icy. Toying with her tea cup, she seemed like she would slice his throat if objections were raised.
A slight tingle and a cool scent made Mary frown. A man wearing a silver mask strode out elegantly; the temperature around him seemed to freeze with his casual stance.
The beautiful slanting eyes were both strange and familiar to her, making her mind faraway.
Suddenly, her eyes froze; the teacup flew from her hand and flitted towards the man’s forehead.
His deep slanting eyes narrowed and turned cold. He turned sideways and grabbed the cup in his hands.
With a loud crack, the cup was split in half; the section was sharp and clear as if a knife had ran through it.
Mary frowned at this; she didn’t realize the man’s inner strength was this brutal.
The man didn’t anger, he continued to stride languidly towards her, and the eyebrows under the mask lifted a fraction. He looked at Mary clearly, “So this is how you treat your guests?”
Although Mary was a little wary of him, she didn’t show it on her face. She looked at him coolly, “You are not a guest of mine if you show up here uninvited.” Her tinkling voice betraying no thought. He followed the exotic smell, his slanting alluring eyes under the mask wandering around the room, landing on the bowl of medicine on the table. He held up the bowl and inspected it carefully, throwing a thoughtful look at Mary.
“This medicine is poisoned.” His knowledge is very wide ranged, making it easy for him to sense the other ingredients that had been blended in the medicine. It was in fact a rare poison. He turned his gorgeous eyes towards Mary.
Mary looked at his silver mask and expressionless enticing eyes and glimpsed at the bowl, this kind of poison was actually unqualified to fool her.
The poison would appear colorless and tasteless at the beginning, after a while it would emit a faint odor. However, in an estate of high social status, it would be hard to notice since the house is surrounded by incense and perfumes.
“Thanks for the warning, you can go now.” Mary said lightly. This man was physically and authoritatively powerful, and could move around unnoticed; he must be a powerful man. She didn’t want to have any relationship with this kind of man.
He did not pay any mind to Mary’s banishment. He peered at her and said in a low and humming voice, “You’ve noticed it already?”
Mary frowned. She doesn’t like sweet and sticky things, but the taste of cubilose was not foreign to her. This sickening sweetness was not the bland taste of cubilose.
“Aren’t you saying a bit too much? It is a heavy felony to trespass a maiden’s private chamber. Please leave as soon as you can.” She lowered her lashes and tried to keep calm.
The man quirked his eyebrows and opened his lips, trying to say something. His deep eyes fell on Mary’s beautiful face and he smiled, making his icy demeanor melt like the frozen stream in spring.
Mary didn’t sense the man’s cool scent dissipate in the room. She frowned and opened her eyes in annoyance. Just at that moment, she caught that breathtaking smile. That smile was dazzling even if she didn’t take his looks into consideration.
Vaguely, he swept his sleeves and a white cork appeared on the table.
“It must be one hell of an adventure for Miss Debeur to go through such changes, I do hope we meet again, goodbye.”
At a blink of an eye, the room was left with only the small white bottle and the not-yet faded scent. The husky voice of the man made Mary jolt slightly, her eyes landing on the bottle on the table.
It’s Him!
