“Ahh!” Nancy moans.
She doesn’t feel very well and wants to push Lawrence away. But he is holding on so tightly that she can barely move an inch.
Lawrence kisses her again, and this time Nancy really manages to shove him away. She thinks that this is all a charade.
His powerful grip on her is starting to hurt her.
Desperate, he holds on with his hand until she loses the will to fight against him.
“Papa, what are they doing?”
“Don’t look son, they must have a toothache or something – that’s why they’re like that!”
A passing father rushes to cover his young son’s eyes and they hurry away from there.
Lawrence lets go of her lips. Breathing raggedly he says, “If you talk or even so much or think about such nonsense, I will hit you!”
“Even after I got into elementary school as a child, my parents never…” Seeing the dangerous glint in Lawrence’s eyes, whatever she is about to say dies in her lips.
Lawrence raises his hand and gently wipes the corners of her mouth, “If you dare go on a date with another guy… I can’t promise that I’ll be able to control myself.”
Nancy blinks, trying to process all this. She nods, something deep in her hardened heart starting to thaw.
He sighs and takes her hands again.
Nancy is still in a state of shock. She feels so desolate and lost. The ability to love a person she lost several years ago seems to be back.
Looking at their intertwined hands, she feels as if she has been taken back in time with her ex-boyfriend all those years ago. He held her hand like this… Back in that time, she used to think that she was the happiest woman alive.
She thought they would hold hands for life and would get married. However, she didn’t expect that her ex-boyfriend would treat her and get married with one of her best female friend.
Ever since then it is as if her heart has withered away and died.
She never thought that she will ever be happy, that she will fall for another man.
Right now, it feels like her heart is slowly starting to beat back into life.
Nancy walks back home in a daze, hand-in-hand with Lawrence. He lets go of her hand and Nancy suddenly comes back to her senses and looks up at him, her head raised.
“Go home. It doesn’t matter if you listen to me tonight or not – I’ll be back tomorrow. Don’t try to shun me, because…” He leans closer and kisses her on the forehead, saying casually, “Because, you can’t run!”
“Now go, I’ll watch you walking upstairs.”
Nancy feels a tug at her heart. It envelopes her entirety until she can hardly breathe. Her eyes starts to brim with tears so she ducks her head before Lawrence can see and hurries towards the elevator.
After three years, she is finally in love again. Nancy places her hand on her chest and feels her heart flutter. Her cheeks are flushed and her breathing is heavier.
“Will he really be back tomorrow?” Nancy can’t help but feel excited at the thought of him. Despite herself, the corners of her mouth cracks into fits of giggles. They come straight from the warmth in her heart.
What she didn’t know is that her parents have been watching them from the balcony upstairs this whole time. They had a hunch that Lawrence is the baby’s father.
Seeing that Nancy is returning back any moment, they rush back inside, pretending not to have seen anything so as not to embarrass their daughter. Watching her going back to her room with a giddy smile, they smile fondly as well and close the door.
Inside her room, Nancy is still in a trance and is unable to believe everything that has just transpired. Turning on the phone, she sees a message from Lawrence, “Go to bed now, I’ll see you tomorrow!”
