DeLorna opened her eyes slowly. Her head hurt badly as she tried to sit up. She could feel what she was lying on was moving at a very normal speed.
Immediately she remembered she had slept off in the car while they were going back to the pack.
Jefferson had left her saying he was going to deal with something important in the pack and left her. She had one to talk to and thus became sleepy and slept off.
She looked around and noticed it was almost dawn.
“Ma’am I hope you had a good rest.”
DeLorna suddenly heard the driver’s voice jolting her from her thoughts.
She looked at the driver only to find out he was smiling while looking at the rear mirror so he could see her face. He wasn’t speeding too much nor was he going at a slow pace either. He was moving at a regular rate.
“I slept well,” DeLorna smiled at the driver.
When she had slept, he had wound up the glasses so as to prevent the chilly wind of the night from entering the car thereby making her cold. She tanked the driver in her heart for his actions as she was able to sleep well.
“Ma’am we’ll arrive at the pack soon.”
The driver’s voice jolted DeLorna out of her thoughts.
“Thanks for informing me,” DeLorna smiled warmly at the driver. She was happy he could inform her about such a situation.
But what she was scared of right now was that she didn’t know her way around the pack yet. She didn’t know the way to Jefferson’s room. She had been thinking of a way to get to his room when she reached the pack.
At first, she wanted to mind link him but gave up the idea as she didn’t want to disturb him. She was sure he would be very busy.
She decided to ask around as she was sure the pack members would know. Even though she wasn’t sure if they liked her she would still ask her and see if they would direct her.
“Soon, the car came to the huge gate of the pack and the guards, after seeing who was in the pack, quickly opened the gate.
The driver drove the car to the parking lot before DeLorna descended from it.
Coming down from the car DeLorna sighed and looked around her. Everywhere was silent, as the members of the pack were still asleep.
“Do you know the way to Jefferson’s house in the pack?” She turned and asked the driver who was locking the car.
Hearing her question the driver looked up in surprise and nodded quickly. Though he was shocked that she didn’t know her way around he didn’t voice it out.
But it wasn’t DeLorna’s fault either. Though she had spent more than a month in the pack. Half of the time she spent here in the pack, she was unconscious in the hospital so it could not be considered that she was in the pack.
“I’ll take you there ma’am.” The hunter replied and quickly locked the car.
“Please follow me.” He said walking out of the parking lot with DeLorna tagging along.
“What is life like in the pack? I’m surprised as you guys are so rich,” DeLorna said probingly to the driver.
Immediately the driver heard her words he immediately understood what she wanted to ask.
Sighing he said. Most of us in the pack goes out to the human places to read and study there. Once they become successful and rich they’ll come back and develop the pack. In fact, most of the young ones are out there schooling in the human world with their identities hidden.”
“What if their identity is exposed? Wouldn’t that expose them to danger?” DeLorna frowned.
“There had been some cases like that where some of our kids’ identities were exposed. They had to return to the pack then we changed where they went to school. Also, we’ve lost some of them due to hunters attacking them in the human world once their identity is exposed.
It is one of the reasons the Alpha hates humans. There was a time he started taking vengeance on humans by also attacking them every day.” The driver explained.
Hearing his reply Everything became clear to DeLorna. She understood why Jefferson was like a cold-blooded killing machine the first time she met him. It wasn’t his fault. She couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.
“Is it parents who sponsor their children individually or is it the pack?”
“The Alpha sponsors everyone in the pack. Either by giving them jobs, sending their children to school, or others. The Alpha is the richest person in the pack as he has a lot of assets he uses to generate money in the human world.” The driver replied.
Hearing the explanation. DeLorna felt as if her head was going to explode. Her head couldn’t fit in all that he was explaining. She didn’t ask further because she knew if asked she would only end up confusing herself the driver with her would try his best to explain the situation to her it would oy end up confusing her more.
We’ll arrive soon at the Alpha’s house. It’s quite far from the parking lot.” The driver suddenly said while they were walking along the tarred road of the pack.
DeLorna nodded. She felt it was a form of exercise to her. It had been a long time since she walked this much so she felt rather tired but vowed to continue walking because she had been lying on the bed for the past month so her limbs were stiff.
The driver could see that she had difficulty walking but didn’t talk. He noticed her legs wobbling as they walked. He wanted to volunteer to carry her but he knew it was improper. She was the Alpha’s wife.
Even if he wanted to help, he would have to look for a female in the pack to help carry her.
“Ma’am, I can see your legs wobbling due to fatigue. Please sit here and I’ll go look for someone that’ll help you,” he said with a light smile.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine. It’s just been a long time since I walked this much. Everything would be fine,” DeLorna gritted her teeth as she replied.
The driver nodded and didn’t say anything. He couldn’t force her to agree anyway. He only wanted to help her because he cared but she had refused. He felt the human with him was interesting. She was neither arrogant nor humble.
DeLorna had refused the driver’s request not because she was proud but because she felt it was not worth it to make him look for help.
She bet he must be more tired than she was and was only hiding it pretending he wasn’t tired.
By now it was already dawn and some of the pack’s members could be seen either jogging or clad in suits going somewhere.
“You see those clad in suits are going to the human world to work. Most of them don’t come back to the pack until maybe a week later.” The driver explained when he saw the people running past them.
DeLorna could only nod and didn’t say anything. She was too tired to talk. She only kept the remaining of her strength in her legs as she managed to keep on walking.
“That’s the Alpha’s building.” The driver pointed at a huge mansion ahead of them while smiling.
Seeing the building DeLorna sighed in relief.
“Thanks…”
“Grr…”
“Grr..”
“Grr..”
The sound of a very powerful alarm bell resounded through the whole pack three times.
Immediately, the driver froze in shock while DeLorna held her head in pain as the Alarm had gone right into her head and she felt pain all over.
After some minutes she raised her head and looked around her only to find the hunter looking shocked. The pack members who were jogging were running to a particular place.
Other members rushed out of their houses in a hurry and in the same direction. There were shouts and screams everywhere.
Some nursing mothers held their babies tightly to their chests as they ran. Some of the members picked up the children who couldn’t run fast.
Everyone was in a panic. DeLorna wondered what the reason was. Only an alarm bell had put them in such a state.
There was only one thing that could be noticed in their faces.
“Terror!”
They were all terrified. It was as if it was the end of the world for them. DeLorna couldn’t understand and turn to the driver.
“Ma’am we have to run along with them to the safe house. The pack is not safe and the Alpha is not in the pack.” The driver said hurriedly to DeLorna who was about to ask questions.
Immediately, DeLorna became confused. She would have loved to run but she was already weak. If she tried to run in the state she was in, there was no guarantee that she wouldn’t collapse.
Suddenly she heard multiple howls in the distance.
Immediately she cringed and shivered as a chill ran down her spine.
Fear was natural for every human. It was the driving matter in human life. it could either help improve and one might even break through or one would fall to the drain once he or she gives in. It was the same that was happening to DeLorna right now. The howl she just heard frightened her down to her bone that it making her feel weak and she fell straight to the ground as she couldn’t help it.
