-Mariana?
How did the commotion suddenly calm down? Staring at Mariana like that, Leopoldo was busy asking about the other party.
-Bang bang.
A split second passed before Mariana opened her eyes. She opened her eyes wide to stare at the ceiling, her gaze filled with many doubts.
Where was she now?
-Come in,” Mariana hesitated for a moment before speaking.
The continuous knocking on the door kept sounding.
Just as in the dream scene, the nanny was entering with a bowl. Looking at what was in her hand, Mariana suddenly spoke and asked:
-What’s in the bowl?
-Madam, it is a tonic,” the nanny smiled and spoke.
As Mariana was pregnant, Leopoldo had recently brought a lot of good things, all of which were expensive medicinal products. If Mariana ate them, she would only have benefits and there would be no inconvenience.
Mariana breathed a sigh of relief and said to herself:
-I thought it was medicine.
-The lady is in good health, what kind of medicine would she take? -The nanny brought the bowl closer and spoke.
Hearing this, Mariana took a breath and then said:
-You can put it here, I don’t want to take it for the moment -she took the word and made a gesture to the other party to put it down.
The nanny nodded as she listened.
She carefully placed the tonic behind the bed, before adding:
-Madam, take it while it’s hot.
This stuff was good.
Mariana looked at the other party and nodded.
-Okay, I know.
Mariana nodded to indicate that the nanny knew what she was doing. Her line of sight couldn’t help but drift toward the door.
At that moment, Mariana’s heart was filled with mixed feelings.
When the nanny saw Mariana looking out the door, she hurried to speak:
-Sir is in the study, he’s been there for an hour.
After all, they were a young couple, so it was impossible for Mariana not to worry about Leopoldo.
-I know,” Mariana nodded, with no intention of asking any more questions.
Seeing Mariana’s appearance, the nanny could only leave, there was no other sense in continuing to stay.
Mariana did not remove the tonic from the bed until the nanny was out the door.
She stirred it twice with a spoon, without much appetite. Even if it was good, she didn’t feel like drinking it.
-It’s too thick… -Mariana looked at the bowl and said before putting it back on the bed. She didn’t feel like drinking it and just wanted to get a good night’s sleep.
But when she closed her eyes, she could only think of Leopoldo again.
Strangely, Mariana suddenly opened her eyes.
Was she expecting Leopoldo to come to see her? No, she shouldn’t have such thoughts.
-I won’t sleep anymore,” Mariana thought about this and immediately got up. She sat on the bed and took a book out of the drawer, with the rare feeling of being able to read properly.
If she did, the child she carried in her womb would have a literary touch later on.
Leopold stood in the doorway with mixed feelings.
-Young master, the lady told me to put it by the bed and said she would drink it herself.
The nanny handed out the tonic as Leopoldo had ordered, checked Mariana’s condition and there was nothing unusual.
Leopoldo nodded, with a stony expression.
-Does she look well? -Leopoldo asked, restless and unable to resist.
The nanny paid special attention to this and immediately said:
-Don’t worry, sir, the lady is in good shape. When I came in, she looked as if she had just gotten up from her nap.
At this time of year, her spirits must have been through the roof.
“You wake up from your nap at this hour? It seems my own little princess is a lazy little pig.”
Hearing this, Leopold nodded his head.
As long as he was fine, nothing else mattered. He didn’t give a damn about any situation, but not Mariana. This woman was the most important person in his life.
There was no one who could take her place.
After reading for half an hour, Mariana’s spirits grew stronger and stronger. When it was almost eleven o’clock, she received a message on her cell phone. The sender was Sofia.
-Mariana, I’ve arrived,” Sofia recorded a video of her old house.
Mariana watched the video and was happy for her from the bottom of her heart.
It was good to be back, to come back and start over.
-Live well and all be well,” Mariana typed a line and sent it to her. She was touched to the bottom of her heart and wished Sofia well.
If they counted time, they both had children around the same age.
“If there’s any luck, I’d like to see the two children together.”
But that kind of hope seemed to have become a luxury. Mariana hesitated for a moment and her eyes rested on the place in the closet, more or less dazed and self-absorbed.
It was time for her to leave.
Glancing towards the door, Mariana couldn’t help but yawn. It was getting late and it was time for her to rest.
-I’m sleepy. Good night,” Mariana typed a few words and settled down to rest.
It was getting late and she had to rest. Especially at times like this, the drowsiness was even greater.
Mariana turned on flight mode and fell completely asleep.
-Good night,” Sofia happily returned the message and also started looking for a place to stay.
These days, as long as one had money, life was not too difficult. Sofia touched her stomach, her heart slowly growing with hope and expectation.
She would not be wrong if she heeded Mariana, and she would undoubtedly have a good future again.
When Leopoldo saw the light in the room go out, he knew that Mariana was lying down. She had gone upstairs to rest after seven o’clock, had woken up after ten o’clock, and had gone back to rest without her for an hour.
It seemed that being pregnant was not the same.
After a long moment of hesitation, Leopold went to his study. He sat at his desk, staring at the papers, focused and serious. In an instant, it was one o’clock in the morning.
Alonso knocked lightly on the door with a serious look on his face.
-Mr. Durán,” Alonso shouted softly.
Leopoldo paused and looked at the other man.
-Di,” he put the paper in his hand and said.
-Rafael is dead,” Alonso looked at Leopoldo and said sadly.
Speaking of which, Leopoldo had in a way spared Rafael’s life, but that man didn’t know any better and ended up dead.
When he received the news, Leopoldo was not surprised.
-How long has it been since he died? -Leopoldo asked coldly as he looked at the other man.
He knew that Alonso’s news had always been most punctual. So with Rafael’s death, Alonso should be able to keep track of the minutes.
-Last night at 11:45,” Alonso looked at Leopoldo, not knowing what Leopoldo would do upon learning the exact time.
This is just a message.
-Hmm,” replied Leopoldo, who seemed self-conscious.
Alonso stopped talking and prepared to leave through the studio door. Seeing the man about to leave, Leopoldo suddenly spoke:
-Didn’t you say that the lady didn’t like you following her?
-Yes,” Alonso paused and answered.
Mariana was firm enough not to want Leopoldo’s people to follow her.
