Kiara shook her head.
“I am sorry but I can’t tell you too. Mark has to tell you himself.” Gwen said.
“He said he is my mate.”
“He is.”
“How did you know Jeff was your mate?” Kiara asked.
“I just felt right. I just knew deep down inside of me that he was the one.” Gwen explained.
Kiara did not talk again. She did not know what to do, she needed questions. She sat with Gwen and had other conversations with her until it was evening. It was time for dinner and both women went into the house. When they got into the dining room, the brothers were already sitting and ready for dinner. The women apologized and went to sit in their respective seats. Dinner was eaten silently.
Mark and Kiara returned to their room after dinner and none of them spoke to each other, they took turns bathing and changing into their night robes. Kiara finished first and sat on the bed, waiting for Mark. He needed to give her answers. When he came out of the closet, he went to the bed and slept on it, silently hoping the girl would not bring the curse up. She did not. When Mark lay on the bed, she also lay on it and slept.
Mark could not sleep, he knew she deserved answers and he did too. Did the girl have a connection to the fairies? He had to go to Harriet for answers. Only she would know what was happening. When he finally slept, he woke up late the next morning. But Kiara was already dressed and sitting on the chair at the corner of the room. He prepared and they went down for breakfast, in their silent mode.
He wanted to take her to the room but she declined, she wanted any other person but him. The blonde winged man volunteered to take her and Mark glared at him not to try anything stupid this time.
She walked out with Shawn and on their way to the room, she asked him the question.
“What curse did the fairies place on you all?” She asked.
He turned to look at her swiftly and she noticed how his ever-bright face darkened with anger.
“Did Mark tell you to ask me that?” He asked.
His deep voice sounded dark and hurt. She wondered what the curse was all about and that it was forbidden to talk about it to strangers. She shook her head and he looked straight again.
“Do not go about asking questions.” He said.
No one spoke to each other and when they finally got to the door, he opened it for her and she walked in and turned around and whispered a thank you, he nodded and left. She went inside and sat on the bed. Dinner time came and she did not go down for dinner. Mark came to the room with Sarah, she was carrying a tray of food. The girl kept the tray on the table and left. Mark came to meet Kiara who was lying on the bed. He lay on the bed and touched her, he was expecting her to jerk his hand off, that is what angry wives did but he forgot that she was always different. She did not jerk his hand off.
“You did not come down for dinner. Are you sick? I can call the healer.” He said.
She could hear the worry in his voice. Genuine worry.
“Werewolves do not fall sick.” She replied coldly.
“Is this about the discussion?” He asked calmly.
She did not respond.
“I will tell you everything when you eat.” He said.
She turned around swiftly.
“You promise?” She asked.
He nodded and she stood up and walked to the table where the food was, she sat down and started eating quickly. He noticed it and he laughed.
“Easy their girl.” He said.
She did not reply. He stood up and walked into the bathroom and when he had taken his bath, he came out and went into the closet. He came out of the closet with only a short on his waist. Kiara was done with her meal and was staring at him. He walked to the bed and lay on it and he gestured for her to join him, she did. She slept on the bed, sideways, looking into his silver eyes. He stared into her eyes too.
“Have you freshened up yet?” He asked her.
“I have.” She replied.
He sighed deeply and closed his eyes. Kiara reached out to touch him and she caressed his cheek gently.
“Tell me what it is, anything.” She said. Her voice was soft and gentle.
He sighed deeply again and began.
“It was a long time ago. Over a hundred years ago. The Angels and the fairies had a dispute. It was very serious and the fairies used their magic to destroy our territory. The Angel’s abode was burnt down to ashes. We were enraged and we formed our own army. That is when my brothers and I were appointed as guardians of the Angels, like kings of the day Angels. I was chosen to be head of them all even though I was not the eldest among us. We went to the fairies’ territory and made peace with them but it was a trap. We begged for a place to stay and when they gave us one, we brought the whole empire of Angels and we slayed them, one by one. Children and women. We left nothing, not even the fairy queen. We were about to kill her too when she cursed us. The guardians of the Angels, we were going to relive our cruelty every night as dreams for the rest of our lives. Until we find our mates and bond with them. Our mates were supposed to be fairies. The queen cursed that we shall only have fairy mates.” He paused.
She was confused. She was not a fairy.
