Lucian immediately went there and when he got to the door, he knocked. His father’s voice echoed from the other side. He opened the door and went inside. His father was standing by the window, watching outside. He had his back on Lucian but he knew that Lucian was inside the room. Lucian waited by the door for a while and when his father didn’t speak, he did.
“You sent for me father.”
“Where have you been?”
“Roaming.”
His father scoffed mockingly at his response.
“There is a problem.”
He knew there was.
“What could that be father?”
“The Lycans. They want a war. They are going to rebel against me.”
“Impossible!!”
Lucian feigned ignorance and surprise.
“What shall we do father?”
Lucian asked curiously. He had to convince the old man that he was on his side. His father did not respond, but this time he turned around to face Lucian.
“I will starve them more and give them a lot of hard labour. I will then freshen up my soldiers and fatten them. On the day of the war, they shall be hungry and weak and my soldiers will cut their throats and let them bleed at my feet.”
His father grinned wickedly and Lucian could feel the anger rising in him. He could not have imagined that his father was so wicked. He smiled back at his father.
“Excellent idea father. A wise decision.”
His father nodded and turned back to the window. He knew that the discussion had come to an end and he excused himself and left his father’s room.
Immediately he left his father’s room, he headed for his mother’s room. He knocked when he got to her door and she gave him permission to come in. He did. She was sitting on the bed when he came in. Her room was spacious and a chair sat at the corner of the room. He walked over to the chair and sat down.
“Father knows about the war.”
He spoke immediately after he sat. He looked at his mother’s face and tried to read his mother’s expression but there was none. Her face was blank and void of emotions.
“They had to tell him. It would not be fair if they attacked suddenly, It would not be a war anymore.”
She spoke calmly and Lucian wondered if she was affected by the war or not.
“But he is planning on starving them. He will kill them.”
He sounded frustrated.
“That’s why they have you. Their secret card and they will play unexpectedly.”
Lucian sighed. He buried his face in his palms again.
“How is Alexia? I know you went to her.”
” She is fine mother. She sent her regards.”
She did not. It was a lie. His mother turned to him and looked at him. He knew she had something on her mind and he looked at her too, waiting for her to speak and she did.
“You have to kill me immediately you kill your father Lucian.”
She whispered and his heart sank into his stomach. He stood up from the chair and came to sit with her on the bed. He sat with her and took her little hands into his big ones.
“I will not kill you mother. You don’t have to die too.”
He spoke calmly, trying not to sound shaky as he was. He couldn’t imagine him killing his mother, she was the only one who had ever loved him even at his worst. When he said those words, his mother began to cry, tears filled her eyes and escaped her cheeks. She took her hands to his face and caressed his cheek.
“My boy. I would not be able to survive going wild like that. You have to do it, take it like you are saving me from eternal damnation. Please my boy.”
She kept her head on her lap and wept bitterly. He could not help but cry. He wept with her. At that point, he hated his father even more. If he had been a good ruler then, non of all of this would have happened. But he chose to be cruel. To command delusional respect. Lucian felt bad for his mother, she was an innocent soul tied to the guilty one. She had to suffer for the sins of his father. After a long time of crying, he finally responded.
“I will do it, I will kill you too.”
The words were heavy in his mouth. He would kill his mother. She looked up at him and burst into tears again.
“Thank you!! Thank you… My boy.”
She looked happy and pleased and his heart squeezed. They stayed in that position for a long time crying.
For the next couple of weeks, his father carried out his plan. He gave the Lycans hard labour and refused to give them food. They looked tired and worn out yet, they worked more. His father’s soldiers were fed extremely. Lucian could see that indeed, he was the hope of the people. But he wondered, he wondered why they had to take so long to attack. The war was in a week’s time and his father was ready.
A few days into the war, Raphael summoned him to his house. The man was in his library when Lucian arrived. Lucian began to wonder if the man ever left the library. After knocking and getting the man’s permission, he walked into the library. The man was sitting in his usual spot, reading a book when Lucian walked in and he kept the book away and smiled at Lucian.
“You have come.”
The man said and pointed to a chair opposite him and Lucian sat down.
“How have you been?”
The man asked Lucian standing up. Lucian replied that he was fine. The man walked around to the other side of the library and took out some books from a section of the shelf and dipped his hand in the empty section pulling out a drawer.
