She was talking in whispers like she was going to cry soon. She continued.
“When I had you, you refused to be the prince he wanted you to be. You were bolder, wiser, and more courageous than you stood up for yourself, you were all I could not be and I knew that you will be the one to liberate the Lycans and me.”
That was the first time he was hearing her story. He was always told that his mother was from a rich and noble home but her parents were dead. He could not believe he was living a lie all his life. His head was spinning with so much force.
All these revelations were getting too much for him. She held his hands into hers. It was dark but he could see that she was teary. She had tears in her eyes.
“I guess they must have told you. The Lycans want to start a war and they want you to kill your father.”
His mouth opened wide. How did she know that? Why was he the last person to find out about the war and the fact that he had to kill his own father? His mother stretched her hand and caressed his left cheek gently.
“I have a request for you, my boy.”
“Anything mother, I will do anything for you.”
“Kill him.”
His eyes went wide and his mouth dropped open. He could not believe what she was saying. How could she say a thing like that? He was her mate, why would she want him dead? Like she read his thoughts, she continued.
” I love him, I love your father so much but I know he is a cruel man. Too cruel for the Lycans, they deserve you.”
She was crying now.
“Your lycan will go mad mother. Without your mate, you know your lycan will go mad and wild.”
He reminded her. She of all Lycans should have known that if a Lycan’s mate dies, the Lycan’s lycan form will go mad and wild, take control of the Lycan’s body and go berserk, destroying everything in sight. Forever. She was a lycan and a lycan queen, she would have known better.
“I know.”
She hesitated.
“That’s why you will kill me too.”
His ears rang. It was wave after wave of surprise for him. He could not take it anymore. His head was already banging and he was tired. He would certainly not kill his mother too. That, he knew very well.
“I will not kill you mother.”
His voice was loud but it carried so much grief. He held onto her tightly. He was afraid now, afraid of losing his mother too. She drew closer to Lucian and kissed his forehead.
“You will and you must. You must save me from the agony.”
She whispered to him and stood up and went to the door. She did not tell him to get some sleep that it had been a long day like she always did. She just opened the door and left. He sat on his bed, shocked, surprised and unable to comprehend what just happened. His head was spinning and banging harder. He took his hands to his head and pulled on his hair.
He laid back on his bed and reached for Alexia’s hair pins under his pillow, he kept them under his nostrils and inhaled deeply, holding his breath and her scent in his lungs. He finally exhaled and tried to calm down. When he was finally calm, he slept off.
ELIZA’S POV
It was Raphael who told her about the war and the people’s request. She had been a servant in his house before Marius found her as his mate and the old but young man had treated her like a daughter.
He had summoned her to his house and when she got there, he took her to the library. It was a large space with an equally large amount of books. He sat on the chair and asked her to sit on the opposite chair. She did. He bowed his head for a while like he was thinking. And when he finally brought his head up, he spoke.
“The Lycans want to protest against your husband, the king.”
She didn’t show emotions or spoke and he paused for a long while.
“They want to kill him.”
She did not speak. She sat there looking at the man and wondering why he was telling her all of that. She could go now and tell her husband and he knew it.
“Your son has to do it.”
“No!”
She refused firmly. He didn’t speak.
“Why are you telling me all of this? And why my son?”
She questioned him.
“I know very well that you have been seeing just how much the Lycans are suffering at the hands of your husband. You were a servant once. If you were treated the way your husband treats the clan, would you have been happy?”
He paused, waiting for her response but it never came. She knew all that her husband had been doing and she was not happy either. She had no problem with the war but her son will never spill blood on his hands. Never.
“I am telling you because I trust you and I love you like my own daughter, I would not want you to be caught off guard about things when they start happening. You have to prepare too because with him gone, your lycan will go wild and berserk.”
He paused again for her to comprehend everything. Tears filled her eyes and she reached out to wipe them.
“And why your son? Because he is the only one who can kill your husband and liberate the Lycans. He will be king.”
He paused again. She looked at him with her eyes red and tears in them. She didn’t know what to say.
“Think about it, Eliza. And like I said, I trust you won’t go wagging your tongue. Don’t disappoint me.”
She stood up and left quietly. His wife kept asking why she was crying but she didn’t talk to anyone and she headed back to her house. She thought over it real and hard. If she was, to be honest, her husband was a tyrant and she didn’t like it. He had to die. But she would not survive going mad at his death. Lucian will have to kill her too.
