After shouting at each other, she rushed at him again but he was faster now and he got off the bed and she crashed into it.
It made her furious. The man she was in love with didn’t love her back and worst still, he wouldn’t even kiss her. She left his room and she was hot with rage. She got to her room and cried out her eyes. She swore to herself to have him all to herself and then, she slept off.

The next day, after breakfast, Lucian’s father called him and Zendaya to the throne room.
Lucian bowed when he was before his father and Zendaya bowed too.
“Rise.” His father’s voice was cold.
“I summoned the both of you here to tell you both never to scream in the palace the way you were doing yesterday night. If you have scores, settle them in hushed tones without disturbing other’s peace.”
He was stern about the noise and wasn’t joking. When he made sure that they had gotten the point, he dismissed them and they left.
Later, Eliza went to Zendaya’s room and reminded the vampire of her place. She reminded her that she was a concubine and she must not go to the prince’s room without being summoned. Zendaya apologized and the Lycan queen left.
Lucian went to visit Marcus later in the day and narrated everything to him. The man was shocked to hear that the vampire could do that. Like always, both men spoke at length with each other and Lucian returned to the palace. He didn’t eat dinner, he went straight to bed. And as he laid back on it, he thought of Alexia and how he will go about telling her about their mating bond. He took her pin in his hands and kept it under his nose. He went to sleep that, night sniffing her hairpin.
*** MARCUS’ POV ***
During the wedding ceremony back at the vampire kingdom between Lucian and Zendaya, he perceived his mate. When he saw her descending the great stairs, her scent filled his nostrils. A smell of spices. He wriggled his nose and wondered where she was. Somewhere very close certainly. Then he began to sniff the entire room with his nose but it was everywhere.
Her smell was strong in the entire room. He couldn’t believe the fact that he was perceiving his mate in a room filled with vampires and when the realization hit him, he realized at that point that it wasn’t good. Lycans have never been mated to vampires. He didn’t know why but it had never been done.
He looked around the room but he couldn’t spot anyone in particular. He decided to ignore it but he couldn’t. He inhaled her smell deeply and filled her lungs with it. It was sweet and heavenly. During their entire stay in the vampire kingdom, he could still perceive her and he knew that his mate was a vampire and she was there in the palace but he couldn’t figure her out and when they left the vampire kingdom, her smell followed him, he liked it.
They got to the Lycan clan and he could still perceive his mate and it was strange. He knew that as a Lycan, he could still perceive his mate’s smell even if he was far from her but not as far as he was from the vampire kingdom. Or maybe, her scent was this strong because she was a vampire. He intended to go back to the vampire kingdom and look for her. He certainly will.
He was puzzled when he got a message from the palace that Lucian’s vampire bride had summoned him. He didn’t know her and she didn’t know him and summoning him to the palace was strange, but when he got to the palace, he could perceive his mate’s smell stronger. He was confused. He thought his mate was a vampire but why was he perceiving her scent in the Lycan palace? It was all confusing, where would he start to look for her?
In the vampire’s kingdom? Or here in the Lycan clan. It was just confusing and he was greatly confused. When he got to where Lucian’s vampire bride was, his mate’s smell was concentrated on her. No, it was coming from her. He was taken off guard. What was that? His mate was his best friend’s bride.
She asked him if he knew where Lucian could have gone, and worry filled her eyes. He laughed inwardly because she was new to the royal Lycan family and she knew nothing about Lucian. But Lucian was like that, it was his usual routine to leave the clan and roam around, coming back only when he wanted to. And after he assured her that Lucian will be fine, he left. Hurriedly. He didn’t want to be where she was anymore.
He didn’t know how he will be able how to explain to his best friend that his bride was his mate. He knew that Lucian wouldn’t care and will even be happy but he certainly knew that the Lycan king will have non of it. Even if she was his mate, she will never be his.
He started avoiding the palace. Even at his house, he could perceive her smell and he didn’t want to go any closer. Her scent was like their mating bond, drawing him closer to her until the mating bond grows stronger and he would be able to read her mind and know her emotions until he would not be able to tell hers from his. Then, he would mate with her and mark her and she’ll gradually turn into a Lycan too and they will start living together and having Lycan babies.
But none of that will happen, she was Lucian’s concubine, a symbol of peace between the Lycans and vampires. Lucian of course noticed his strange withdrawal from the palace and asked him about it during one of his visits. But he told him that he had been greatly preoccupied with no or little time to while away. His parent’s business required a lot of attention and Lucian didn’t have a reason to doubt him so he looked convinced and Marcus continued to stay away from the palace.
