The ride to the pack was long and very uncomfortable, Emily was fast asleep and resting on my lap. She was very happy when Rhoyda asked her for help, they were giggling like little girls while packing a few things in Rhoyda’s suitcase.
As for Ken, he seemed very happy but somehow distant, I could tell he was having a few problems of his own, that’s why I chose to keep away from him.
“Are you okay?” Rhoyda mind linked me.
She was sitting in front next to Ken while he drove, I chose to sit behind with Emily because I wanted to hold her in my arms and calm myself.
I was very nervous, afraid and a sense of guilt was easily washing all over me.
“No, I’m not okay. Rhoyda I’m going back to the one place that I never thought I was going to ever go. The past memories were slowly tormenting me day by day for years, now that I’m going to face my fears I feel like I can’t breathe properly.” I answered honestly.
“You will be fine brother, no one knows your secret and let’s make sure that it stays that way. All you have to do is act normal and be their Alpha. I will have your back and support you in everything. And remember, that now you have a mate beside you.” She said through our mind link.
I took in a deep breath and released it. I guess she was right, the past was the past. I was a different man than before and I did attorn for my sins.
“Thank you.” I whispered.
Emily shifted a bit and slowly opened her eyes.
“Are we there yet?” She asked in a whisper.
“No.” I answered then leaned in and kissed her forehead.
“Actually we are.” Ken answered.
I looked at him with a frown then at Rhoyda.
“Relax.” She mind linked me when ken parked the car in front of a huge mansion.
My mind was filled with a lot of things that I couldn’t notice the house’s that we had passed.
Ken quickly came out of the car and went around to open the door for Rhoyda.
“Aren’t we going out too?” Emily asked softly as she sat upright.
I pulled her closer and rested my head on her chest.
“I’m scared.” I whispered honestly.
The pack was bad for me, it not only made my heartache, but it also made Vincent hate me and never want to ever talk to me. He was silent the whole way and his emotions were clear. Anger and sadness.
“Hey, I promise that I won’t leave your side no matter what. I will be there when you feel like you can’t take a step further.” She whispered.
I sat upright and smiled at her, she really was an angel. I did nothing right to deserve her at all.
“Now let’s go out, I’m sure the people are happily waiting for you.” She said then opened the door and came out.
I swallowed hard and did the same. A lot of eyes were set on me, most faces were new to me. I only knew a few of them.
“Ken.” A lady called then rushed into his arms.
“Beca.” He said softly.
Rhoyda looked at me seriously, her eyes were slowly changing to red, her wolf was very upset despite Rhoyda looking pretty calm.
“Ken.” I called trying to get him to pull back.
“Oh sorry.” He answered then pulled back and looked at everyone.
“Everyone, this here is our alpha, his name is alpha Jason and beside him is his mate and Luna. Her name is Emily and she’s human.” He said as loud murmurs broke out.
Emily quickly linked her hand to mine, I gave it a squeeze then cleared my throat.
“I want to say this to you all. So hear me out, a lot of you know this, but I’ll just say it anyway. In the past, we had an attack that made us lose so much. We were ambushed and outnumbered by bloodthirsty rogues. In that attack, we lost our loved ones and I lost my parents, who were the Luna and Alpha of this pack. I also lost….” I kept quiet and tried to ignore the burning lump that was building up in my throat.
“I also ended up losing my brother Cole, he was everything that I wasn’t. Brave, loving, kind and a protector. He gave his life to see us live and that haunted me for life. Because of my cowardliness, I couldn’t do much but watch. Everything was hell and I just couldn’t take it. I went away because I hated myself so much, the past memories couldn’t stop haunting me no matter where I shifted to. I decided to live close to humans and never ever show myself to my own kind. Day by day I tried to attorn for my sins. Then ken showed up, he made me realize that it was time to be the Alpha that my parents would have been proud of. If you will accept and have me as your Alpha and leader, then I will devote my whole life to this pack. I will die protecting everyone here, this time I will fight and be worthy of your trust.” I said loudly.
They all kept quiet and looked at each other.
“Everyone, the alpha is back!” One man screamed loudly as everyone cheered.
I sighed loudly in relief and smiled widely.
“See, they love you.” Rhoyda mind linked me.
“I meant every word sis.” I mind linked her back then looked at Emily who was smiling warmly at me.
“Alpha, please allow me to take you to your room.” Ken said.
“Sure.” I answered.
He walked to the mansion as I followed, the men and women slowly bore their necks each time I walked past them and I made sure to smile at them too.
“Welcome home Alpha.” Ken said when we walked into the huge pack house.
I looked around impressed with the decorations that were on the wall and the huge stairs ahead of us.
“You worked hard to rebuild everything.” I whispered.
He chuckled softly then nodded.
“It wasn’t simple, but it was worth it. All it took work was hard work and unity. I handled the pack’s income, warriors, and members. But now that you are here, I’m sure that we will prosper even more.” He answered.
“I’m really sorry that I left when you needed me the most.” I said sadly.
He stopped walking and turned to face me.
“Alpha, that was in the past. Now all that matters is that you are here. Back to your pack and rightful place.” He answered.
If only that was true.
