Emily stood on the pavement, clutching her phone tightly. She stood still, refusing to take a step forward or backwards. She doesn’t know why the thought suddenly escaped her mind.
How would her mother react when she suddenly asks about one ‘Miles Jones’ who has no single picture on the internet? How will she explain her reason for snooping around about the past?
She sighed and her hands clenched around the phone tightly. She had taken several pictures of the information Jonas got for her. He’d even promised that he will try harder to see if he is able to get a picture of the culprit.
A sudden gush of air suddenly passed by and she shivered. It’s getting colder with the weather changes. Seems like it’s going to rain soon.
She snapped out of her reverie and walked to the door. She walked in just in time to hear the loud sound of the thunder strike. Yep… It’s definitely going to rain and it’s a heavy one.
She looked around the sitting room which was pitch black, a sign that no one is in it. She walked to a hallway and soon stopped in front of a room. She knocked lightly and walked in.
Just as she expected, her mother and Lena were cuddling in the bed like they usually do whenever it’s about to rain. Lena has a strange phobia for rain or shall I say thunderstorms and no one knows why.
The two of them looked up and sat up when she walked in. “You finally came back, sis. I was so scared. I waited for hours but you didn’t show up. Mom came back home as soon as the news of the dangerous creature on the loose spread out,” Lena sounded like she was accusing Emily of defying instructions and endangering her life.
Emily smiled and walked to the bed. She sat down at the edge of the bed and tried to reassure her, “See… I’m fine. I came back home safely.” She stole a glance at her mother who hasn’t said a word since she came in and saw that she was staring at her curiously.
“Mom… Have you eaten dinner?” She took the initiative to strike up a conversation. The lightning shone brightly as rain poured down heavily.
Lena hugged their mother tightly. “Yes… Where have you been?” Emily was already expecting that question. She held her phone tightly, prepared to ask when Lena suddenly interrupted.
“Now that I remember… Sister, brother-in-law came looking for you,” Emily’s ears perked up at this. Ryan? She’d completely forgotten that they were supposed to meet today.
Before she could say anything, Lena continued, “He looked pale and he seemed to have drunk too much alcohol. He desperately wants to see you.” Emily was so worried. She forgot about what she wanted to do and turned around.
“Don’t forget to take an umbrella!” She heard her mother call out behind her.
****
Emily shivered slightly as she held the umbrella tightly. The wind was trying to take it away from her and the coldness of the rain wasn’t helping either.
She soon reached Ryan’s house and walked slowly to the doorstep. She suddenly stopped, her eyes fixed on something or shall I say, someone.
He was sitting on the cold, wet stairs. His head bent low and he looked completely drenched yet he didn’t move at all. He just remained motionless, his body giving off a melancholy feeling.
She has never seen him like before and it scared her. For how long has he been sitting there in the rain? She reacted and rushed to him. Sitting beside him and using the umbrella to shield his already wet body from the rain.
But what’s the essence of that when he’s already drenched? Ryan sniffled and looked up when he suddenly didn’t feel that numb sensation of the rain beating him. He had unknowingly come to sit in the rain… Hopeful that it would quench this heart-wrenching pain in him.
Normally, a wolf’s resistance to cold is usually high because their bodies are always warm/hot but he’s been sitting in the rain for too long that he was beginning to feel cold.
His eyes met with Emily’s beautiful eyes and he shook. “Ryan…,” She reached out to cup his cold cheeks gently. What the fuck is wrong with him? She’s never seen this lifeless look in his eyes before and it was scaring her so much.
“Get away from me… I’m a monster,” She didn’t hear his last statement but she heard the first one as he tried to move away from her. This caused her to move closer and embrace him, making her clothes slowly wet.
He stopped struggling and burrowed into her slightly warm and soft body. She didn’t expect what he did next. His shoulders shook terribly as her clothes got wet from something other than the rain… His tears… He broke down and wept.
Emily could only sit there and let him pour out his emotions. She doesn’t know how long they have been in that position but he stopped and sat up. When his eyes flashed against hers, she was startled.
Why are his usual brown eyes a glowing crimson colour now? She was startled, not scared. She was even intrigued. Ryan noticed this and mistook her reaction to fear.
He shuddered again. He’d already expected this. But he would have to do it either way cause they may… Never see each other again. He stood up and stretched out a hand to her.
Emily was relieved to be back in a warm place. She dropped the umbrella and Ryan led her to his room. She looked around the familiar room and noticed that something was amiss but couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
“Ryan…,” She tried to say but he stopped her. He held her hands and looked into her eyes. “I want to tell you something… No, I want to show you something. Promise that you won’t hate me.”
Emily felt scared. Her first thought was is he breaking up with her!? But she still nodded to indicate ‘yes’ since she couldn’t find it in her to say anything.
Ryan slowly let go of her hands and sighed. Then he began to undress slowly. Emily almost choked. Is this what he wants to show her? Is this another ploy to torture her in bed?
“Please… Don’t look away. It’s important. You have already seen everything,” he told her when he saw that she was looking away. Emily’s face flamed with a pink blush. She nodded and watched him strip down to his last clothing.
Her eyes involuntarily locked on his phallus and she didn’t even try to hide that she was staring at it after he was the one that gave her the right to do so. Ryan would have chuckled if it wasn’t for the situation.
She noticed that his boner grew tremendously under her watchful eyes. “Stop that,” Ryan almost groaned. Would she quit looking at him like she wanted to devour him?
It was doing something to him as she can see! Emily snickered and wanted to refute his words but he closed his eyes and… shifted!
Her jaw dropped as she watched black fur grow on his body at an alarming rate, bones make cracking sounds, paws replaced his hands and… She watched every single step of his transformation until a familiar, black wolf was standing in his place.
Emily’s mouth opened slightly as she stared at the wolf that had been plaguing her dreams for quite some time… So he isn’t just a dream. He is real! He isn’t really a wolf since Ryan had just changed to him. What will she call this strange human creature?
Her eyes widened as she remembered that she had seen his picture on the tv screen earlier. No wonder he looked familiar. It was Ryan all along and he is wanted.
Ryan waited anxiously as he watched emotions drift fast on her face. She finally reached out when he’d thought she would run away or worse still faint.
“Ryan… Is that you?,” She walked forward slowly with an amazing look, the opposite of the reaction he’d expected from her. Since he is still in his wolf form, he nodded. She gasped a little and got to him.
She touched him and quickly removed her hand. A few minutes passed and when he didn’t do anything, she walked forward and what she did next stunned him. She embraced him and giggled.
He heaved a sigh of relief and shifted immediately. She pouted when she felt his naked skin. She looked up at him and whined, “Bring Mr Wolfe back!”
Ray also supported her with a groan. Ryan pushed the naughty wolf and looked down at Emily. Why is she so cute? “You know I’m currently wanted, right?” He asked and she nodded.
“You know I’m a monster.” She nodded again. “No… I’m a werewolf that shouldn’t be in the human world and you… You aren’t doing anything.” She shook her head sideways to indicate ‘no.’ He was exasperated.
“Won’t you call the cops?” He questioned with a look of disbelief. She suddenly hugged him and kissed his chest gently. “I’m… I’m lucky,” Her voice was low but he was stunned.
She’s… Lucky? What does she mean by that? “That… My favourite wolf is my hubby,” She finished her statement. “I love you just the way you are and I do not care if you are as dangerous as they claimed you to be or not…”
Ryan looked at her. Did she realize that she just said it? “You love me?” He asked and she nodded, “I love you… So very much. We can face it together. Whatever it is, we’ll face it together.”
And that did it.
*****
Emily turned on the bed and her hands reached out to the empty space beside her. She sat up and winced a little. Ryan really outdid himself last night. He wasn’t going to get another chance to make love to her again.
But a smile appeared on her face as she touched the small chain around her neck, a ring dangling in the middle. She also glanced at the key in the bedside drawer.
‘What if you never get to come back?’ she remembered asking him after he explained everything last night though some parts of the story were confusing.
He’d kissed her and told her, “Here… When I come back, I’ll wear this ring on your finger. The place it’s meant to be.”
Emily looked at the ring again. It might take days, weeks or months for him to come back but she knows… He’ll keep his promise and she’ll keep on loving him as much as he does.
