Walking into the room Leon booked, I found it hard adjusting myself to the deafening music. Why did Leon, who was no longer young, book a Rock-N-Roll themed bar was beyond my comprehension.
Luckily, the next song played was much more soft, although it was still rock music. Leon was dressed in a casual way, a white T-shirt, a pair of black jeans, a pair of white shoes, and a black hat, and he looked rather attractive in this dress.
“Do you like rock music?” Leon asked Second Brother.
“It is acceptable, but I’m more fond of classic music.”
Impressed, Leon gave Wenbei a thump’s up and said, “People who enjoy classic music are no ordinary, because you can’t really appreciate classics without some talents in music.”
“They are all music, and only the styles are different. I didn’t know you love rock music so much, Did you play rock music before?” Second Brother asked.
“Yes, I did, but not like the professionals. There was a a period of time when I was rather rebellious, and I couldn’t find any way to give vent to the negative feelings that were building inside me other than playing rock music. But as I said, I was pretty bad at it, so it is not worth mentioning.” Leon said.
They got so excited over the topic of music, and my existence proved to be unnecessary all of a sudden.
I was surprised that they could get along with each other so well, because Second Brother, for a long period of time, had found Leon hateful, and he was in particular not happy with me and Leon being together.
I had no idea why and when did his attitude change.
Leon got so excited over the topic of music that he completely ignored my existence. But Second Brother cared for me, and he asked, Little sister, do you like rock music?”
I said I was not very fond of it, as it is too loud, especially the heavy metal music. You don’t even understand what is it all about.
Leon shook his head in disapproval, and said, “You don’t need to understand it. You need to feel it, because music is not to be understood ”
I argued with him by saying “Then why did you say it entails music talents to appreciate classics. Why do we need music talents if the music is not to be understood?”
“So you are here to contradict me?” His brow furrowed.
“Why can’t I? I have every right to do so.” I furrowed my brow like he did.
“Sure you do. But I find it quite boring to argue like this. I dare you to have a glass of wine with me.” Leon said.
“It is stupid to start drinking in the middle of an argument.” I said.
Leon raised his glass to Wenbei, and said, “She doesn’t want drink. Let’s drink. It has been such a long time since I had wine in this kind environment, and it feels so good.”
Second Brother was not hesitant at all, and he drank the wine in one gulp.
Their happiness was so infectious that I found it hard to resist the temptation to have a little wine.
“Little sister, did he ever play rock music for you?” Second Brother asked.
I said “Never. He was lying. He knew nothing about rock music.”
Second Brother looked at Leon with great interest, and said, “Little sister said you were lying. Do you want to prove it?”
Leon waved his hand and said, “That’s not necessary. I know I can, and that’s enough.”
“Come on, how hard it is to play a song for my sister.” Second Brother said.
Before Leon answered, I said, “He really can’t, and stop forcing him.”
Leon smiled and said, “What if I can?”
“Then that proves you weren’t lying. But I knew you, so please don’t force yourself into this.” I smiled.
Leon also smiled, but he still took no action. He was indeed calm today.
“Leon, play a song for us if you really can. I would do it if I could, especially after being provoked by little sister like that.” Second Brother said.
Leon looked at me and said, “What would ou do if I really can”
I pointed at my glass and said, “if you do know how to play it, I’ll toast you with three glasses of wine.”
“That’s not enough. If I can, I want you to go back to Hai City with me tomorrow. What do you think? Leon said.
I had something important to deal with the next, and of course I couldn’t go with him. But Second Brother was encouraging me all the time. He said, “Say yes, and we shall see whether he can play it or not.”
I said, “Fine. I will accompany you tomorrow if you play a song.”
“You will not go back on your words.”
I said, “No, I will not.”
“The I’ll have to talk to the band. I need their cooperation. It’s been a very long time since I played, and I am rather nervous. And if I mess it up, you promise you will never let other people know.” Leon stood up and had another glass of wine to give him more courage.
He fixed his clothes and walked towards the stage. He looked lean and fair, and I was reminded of a song called, “Never grow old.” He hadn’t aged a day and he was still young, so young that he was going to play Rock-N-Roll.
Actually I knew he could play it. He was not the kind of person that pretends to be someone else just to gain attention. He is like a shinning star and he doesn’t need to do that.
Susie walked in the moment Leon left.
“You are indeed here. I never expected you would pick a bar this cheap. When I saw you walking in here, I couldn’t even believe my eyes.” Susie said.
It seemed like she followed us all the way here and took a walk somewhere else before she got in here and found us.
“What are you doing here?” I frowned.
“I have the right to do so. I just want to find out what are you discussing about, seeing you are all so mysterious.”
Me and Second Brother ignored her.
“Weren’t you supposed to be with your former husband? Where is he?”
We didn’t respond.
“He didn’t show up? You got stood up? Turns out you mean nothing to him, but that’s understandable, because you would not be divorced if you were popular.” Susie found it interesting to belittle me.
I smiled at her and didn’t explain.
Then on the stage, the lead singer of the band said that a friend in the bar wanted to play a song together with them, and everyone was welcomed to participate the performance if he loves music. Give it up for this friend of ours!
Leon walked up to the stage, and he waved to the crowed and a deafening applaud was immediately heard. All because he is good-looking. I can already hear screams from some girls.
In this particular era, looks are indeed everything.
