“I would never lie about a prophesy! Not only is that an insult to me, but my ancestors too.” She actually looked offended. And she was saying the truth, I could tell.
“Where does Nikolai come in anyways?” Max asked.
“It’s a long story and children now a ways call it fictional but it’s all true. Thousands of years ago, Jivan was ruled by God Sol and Goddess Luna. It was the most peaceful time in history, until Goddess Luna gave birth to a set of twins, one boy and one girl. There were a lot of wild animals at that time which are long extinct now. But they were common at that time. And their children often used to escape their palace and explore the Kingdom, even places no one has never been to. No matter how much they tried to control their children, the kids never listened, they were always in search of an adventure. And as they grew up, the adventure turned into a hunt of the most monstrous and beastly animals. The older they got, more dangerous the hunt got. Scared for the lives of their children, God Sol and Goddess Luna decided to bless their children with magical powers. God Sol blessed their daughter and she became a vampire. Goddess Luna blessed their son and he became a werewolf.”
“Their hunting games continued but the parents weren’t worried about the lives of their children anymore. As they grew up, the fun game turned into a competition. And when they found their mates, the competition turned serious, each wanting to show their mate that they were the stronger offspring. And that turned into rivalry that went on for hundreds of years. It got so bad that it began affecting the lives of the people in the Kingdom. God Sol and Goddess Luna grew concerned and ordered them to end it but the children, stubborn as they were since childhood, didn’t listen. However, they agreed on a duel. The winner would be called the strongest. The duel went on for a fortnight before half of the kingdom was destroyed and both of them fell off the edge of a mountain and died. Ever since, vampires and werewolves didn’t get along.”
“During their duel, a little boy and his father ended up dying as collateral damage. The strongest faye in the dimension was the mate of that man and the mother of that boy. Crazed after the death of her son and mate, she was furious. She thought that God Sol and Goddess Luna were incompetent to be the King and Queen or even parents. And that scorned woman cursed them that their souls would be apart for the rest of the eternity.”
“And curses given that time couldn’t be taken back. What was done, was done. The couple begged for her forgiveness regardless. They considered the mistakes of their children as their shortcoming as parents. The faye realised that their mistakes aside, they were good people. She said that they would have to rewrite history if they wanted to be together again.”
“Heartbroken from the death of her mate and child, the faye died that night. And on the same night, God Sol and Goddess Luna become celestial beings, far away from each other in the universe, never to be one again. Not until the history is rewritten.”
“How can history be rewritten?” Dimitri asked.
“I’ll get there.” She replied. “By that time, a considerable amount of vampires and werewolves existed. Some were the offspring of twins and some were humans transformed into supernaturals. They were furious that their beloved King and Queen were given the curse and stolen from them. They took it upon themselves to hunt each and every faye in Jivan. That was the only thing the two races agreed upon. It was Fallon, Fiyona’s mother who took it upon herself to save as many fayes as she could and help them escape into a different dimension, which is now known as the Faye Dimension. But a lot of fayes had lost of their lives, it is considered to be the worst thing vampire and werewolves have done our entire history.”
“That’s why it’s never taught to children in school.” Max muttered.
“We do what we can to preserve ourselves.” Victor replied.
“A few hundred years after that, one of my ancestors made the prophesy which is said to help rewrite history.” Yolanda continued. “For Goddess Luna and God Sol to reunite, history will have to be written again. So from the prophesy, we infer that, ‘When the sun and moon reunite,’ means that when vampires- who exist because of God Sol’s blessing, and werewolves-who exist because of Goddess Luna’s blessing will have to coexist in peace again. The High Council has taken upon themselves to do that, and we do it successfully.”
“Whatever floats tour boat.” Dimitri said snidely.
She shot him a glare before continuing, “and for the royal order to be restored again, we need a strong King and Queen. There is a lot of cross breeding happening among vampires and werewolves. And since everything related to the prophesy has to be pure, the King needs to be of a pure breed as well. Adrik is, along with being an immortal. He is the King. Viktoria was a pure-bred werewolf too but she wasn’t strong enough.”
Dimitri, Max and I growled at that. How fucking dare she insult our mother?
She continued without stopping, “the next part says that their offspring will save the universe and life as we know it with the help of magic. You are the werewolf offspring, Nikolai. You are destined to save the universe. And since the prophesy talked about both werewolves and vampires, we need a pure breed vampire as well. She is the last standing pure bred vampire and Orlando’s daughter.”
And then as if on cue, the doors opened and a young woman walked in.
“So you’re saying both of us have to fight together in face of adversity to save the universe?” I looked at the woman. She looked small, almost timid and delicate. And while I didn’t judge people by their appearance but she really looked like she hadn’t even trained for one day of her life. I could tell just from the timid way she walked, it wasn’t how a warrior walked. Maybe she had powers instead, anyways, if all of this was true, I didn’t mind fighting alongside someone else.
“Althea doesn’t fight.” Orlando replied. “You need to reject Avalyn and take her as your mate.” Orlando said.
A laughter bubbled up my throat at his preposition.
The three of them looked at me with an incredulous expression.
“Nothing you say will make reject Avalyn. Certainly not some prophesy.” I resisted the urge to growl.
“This is a very serious matter, Nikolai.” Viktor said. “The entire universe, all the dimensions in it, all the lives al-”
“If the universe will come to an end, I will happily die with my mate, Avalyn by my side. I am not interested in going through any plan of yours.” I said, finality ringing in my tone.
“Avalyn isn’t your mate. She is a faye, she is the magic that is referred to in the prophesy.” Yolanda replied. “She is required to fulfil the prophesy, just in a different capacity.”
In the beginning, when I bought Ava, I wasn’t she if she was my mate.
But her wolf was too weak, she appeared to be a mere human then. And when her wolf came out, my wolf did believe her to be our mate.
But her wolf died. She’s a faye now. She’s not really my mate.
But I still feel just as strongly for her. I still love her just as much as I did when I bought her. In fact, I love her more now, after knowing that she was just as beautiful as she was inside as she was from the outside.
But love doesn’t equal to mate.
“Althea, meet Nikolai Volkov,” Orlando said and she stiffened, “he is the one you are going to mate.”
“No.” Dimitri growled, standing up furiously. I looked at him to see his eyes pitch black as he stared at the female, “mate.”
Oh fuck.
