It’s really Leon Hua! It seemed that Jiannan Lyu really knew him.
He was now the owner of a listed company and he was still doing this? Wasn’t it too childish or risky?
I hung up the phone and went downstairs. Sure enough, I saw that there was a mess everywhere and the restaurant had been smashed terribly.
Luckily, no one noticed me. I managed to sneak out of the messy restaurant, getting to the parking area to drive away. Because I knew that Leon was at the back door, I intentionally avoided him.
The phone rang again, and it was again from him, asking me if I was still in there and if it’s safe.
I was going to ignore him, but I was afraid that if he thought I was in there, he would storm into the restaurant, then Jiannan wouldn’t let him go.
I said I was out and was ready for home now. I also told him to stop bothering me. Then I hung up and turned off the phone.
When I got home, I felt so tired that I washed up and lay down, remembering that I still had some business to deal with. And then I had to get up and keep working for a while. Then I got an email, informing me to go back to Yang City for a meeting the next day.
So, I had to book a high-speed train ticket for the next morning. I had only been here two days and I was asked back to report my work? Did something happen again?
…
The next day near noon, I arrived in Yang City. Wenbei Su himself drove to the station to pick me up and then we went to lunch together.
“Are you okay over there? I was worried about you.” He said softly.
I recalled the two days I had spent in Hai City and I could only describe it with one word-tired.
“I ran into Leon. Then I went to see Ying Hua, the sister of Leon. And a few old friends.” I said.
“Oh.” Wenbei responded softly, “Is everything okay?”
“Yes.” I answered.
“Well, that’s good.” He didn’t ask me more about how I met Leon and quickly skipped the topic.
“Second Brother, why did you call me back so soon? Everything alright?” I asked.
“I didn’t know this until last night and I’m not sure what the matter is. But it shouldn’t be a big deal. Everything’s fine.” He said.
I was now finally in relief. I was now feeling like walking on thin and I was afraid of causing trouble.
After lunch, Wenbei sent me to his villa to have a rest and he went out to do his business. Then in the afternoon, when we were about to go to work, he came back to pick me up to go to the headquarters for a meeting.
There were several executives sitting in the conference room, as well as board members, and Ling.
“Well? Are you still used to being in Hai City?” Ling asked me.
I thought to myself that this was a ridiculous question. I was born in Hai City and what’s the problem of getting used to it or not when I got back to my hometown?
“Okay.” I faintly responded, “Thank you for your concern, Miss Jiang.”
Wenbei’ s dad, Jianye, wasn’t there, so the most powerful person here would be Ling. So, today’s meeting should be about her.
Sure enough, she began to speak. After glancing at the room, we began to keep silence. There were many beautiful women, but there really weren’t many that were as beautiful and stylish as she was.
“First of all, I’d like to thank Miss Yao for her hard work in Hai City. Today’s meeting will also focus on her work.” Ling said.
I was a little nervous again. Was a discussion of my job?
“Miss Yao, please tell us your work there.” Ling looked at me, indicating me to give a brief summary of my work.
I thought to myself what should I say. I had only been there for two days, getting some basic information and I hadn’t even been able to get involved in specific matters. What could I say?
But how could I not say a word when everyone was focusing on me?
I stood up, “I’ve been on the job for just a short time and I’m still at a stage of getting to know the company, so it’s hard to make a conclusion about a lot of things at the moment. However, in general, Tongyu is a very young and energetic company and I am confident that I’ll make it.”
The words were more or less meaningless, but that’s what I could say.
I thought Ling would not be happy with my report, but she didn’t object. Instead, she nodded appreciatively, a great surprise to me.
“The reason why we acquired Tongyu is because it’s young and it has very clear core competencies. Assigning you to manage it is because you are also young and competent, suitable to lead the company. But we also did our research, finding there’s another company in Hai City that’s similar to Tongyu, called Lanhai Technology, right?” Ling looked at me.
When I heard about the name, I felt even more uneasy, but I nodded anyway.
“As the saying goes, one mountain can’t have two tigers. The fact is that Lanhai, a similar company to us is a big threat to us. So, our plan is to acquire Lanhai Technology within six months.” Ling said.
This was actually mentioned to me by Feng Shen when I was in Hai City. I thought it was his own idea, but now it seemed that Nanhe’ s top management held the same opinion as him.
They wanted me to acquire one of Hua’s subsidiaries, which was the most difficult thing in the world. If Lanhai was just an independent technology company, that might be possible, but it was backed by Hua’s, which was too strong and powerful. How could it be possible to buy it?
When Lanhai was an independent company, we had a hard time buying it, letting alone now that it was a subsidiary of Hua’s.
“Miss Yao, why don’t you say something? Am I wrong?” Ling looked at me.
“Miss Jiang is right. Internet companies are relying on mergers and acquisitions to expand their scale. I would certainly like to buy Lanhai, so that the company can expand rapidly. But I’m afraid this will not be easy, as it is now a subsidiary of Hua’s Group. If the group won’t sell it, it’s hard for us to buy. And Lanhai was already preparing to go independent and go public on the Nasdaq, and I can’t think of any reason why Hua’s would want to sell such a very promising company?”
There was a moment of silence as I finished. Because everyone could hear that while I didn’t not directly oppose to Ling, she and I were actually basically holding different opinions.
Ling even nodded, “Miss Yao is right. This matter is indeed very difficult. But what things in this world are easy? Nanhe Group has come a long way and has gradually grown stronger through a series of acquisitions. We used to think that many things could not be done, but then we did and realized the possibility. We need to try our best. I believe in Miss Yao’s ability and your team.”
Though she didn’t straightly say ‘no’, she already made me in a dilemma.
If I said more that went against her, Ling would say that I had lost the game at the beginning.
