His expression suddenly darkened and his mouth twisted in a scowl. “You.”
“Who are you? I -I don’t know you.” I scrambled to my feet and unfroze Nikolai. I needed him by my side. I needed him to protect me. I wasn’t strong enough right now to do it myself.
“You are the reason Fiyona is dead.” He walked towards me, his body vibrating with anger.
I shook my head frantically. Nikolai hadn’t moved. My powers hadn’t worked.
Or maybe his powers were stronger than mine.
“I don’t know what you are talking about! I don’t know any Fiyona!” I tried to use my powers to push him backwards but it didn’t work. So I started backing away from him.
“I’m talking about your mother, you ungrateful brat!” His eyes flashed.
My eyes widened. “My mother’s name is Valerie.”
And then it clicked. Fiyona was Mamma’s mother. He must be Fiyona’s mate. Is he really Faelern?
I looked at him. He had a larger-than-life aura. He carried himself with so much self-assuredness, so much poise and power, he has to be a King. He has to the be the King.
King Faelern.
Emotions I couldn’t decipher passed through his eyes before they filled with sadness. The emotion looked like it belong there, like it had made a home in his eyes, having lived there for so long.
“You’re my grand daughter.” It was a statement.
I nodded hesitantly.
“My daughter is dead.” He stated again.
I nodded.
The fury in his eyes returned. “You’re going to die soon too.”
My lips parted. “Are you… are you going to kill me?”
I remember Max saying that Faelern didn’t want Fiyona to have her child and kill herself in the process. That was the reason Fiyona ended up leaving him and coming to Jivan. He must really hate his daughter. My mother.
“I won’t need to. Your mate has it covered.” And with that, he disappeared the same way he came.
What did that mean?
Nikolai rushed to my side, kneeling next to me, not frozen anymore. “Are you okay?”
“I don’t know,” I whispered, gulping. Too much has happened in twenty four hours. I haven’t even had the time to process it myself. And I still wasn’t feeling well. I was feeling incomplete.
Nikolai is still my soul mate. I felt half empty without him. Because he was missing from me. Nik made me whole. My soul ached for it’s other half.
I pulled my hair over one shoulder and titled my head, exposing my neck. “Mark me again, Mi Amor.”
Nik met my eyes, “you’re always going to be mine.” And then his canines punctured my neck.
A pain seared through my neck straight to my heart. I embraced it. I craved it.
My eyes squeezed shut as I held on to his him, my nails digging in his back, drawing blood. It was so much more painful than last time. But I accepted it. Because I wanted to. We weren’t mates by nature’s choice anymore. It was our choice.
And for the first time in a very long time, I could feel him. I could feel him and his wolf through our bond. He was going through a turmoil of emotions. Love, anger, hate, anxiety, happiness, sadness… he was so sad. Why was he so sad?
Before I could ask him anything, he crashed his lips against mine again, making me forget everything. A different sense of peace settled in my heart and my soul felt complete again.
After what felt like forever, he pulled back and rested his forehead against mine.
I felt my blood roll down my neck. My eyes lowered to see that it was a glittery gold in colour. And my hair were silver now, the brown was gone forever. I was truly, one hundred percent, a faye.
And then Nik leaned in again and licked the punctures he had created, sealing the wound and marking me as his forever.
Footsteps hit my ears and I pulled away from Nik to see Tessa.
And all I could smell was blood. Human blood. I could hear the blood gushing through her veins, her delicate little heart working hard to pump that delicious blood to her entire body. My eyes zeroed in on her neck, right where I could see her pulse beating.
I took a deep breath. She smelled mouthwatering.
And then in the second, I had her pinned on the wall on the other side of the room and my teeth were digging into her neck.
The moment her blood reached my tongue, I moaned in delight. This was the most delicious thing I had ever had. I sucked and sucked and sucked.
But my thirst was never ending.
I couldn’t get enough.
The entire world blurred out and all I could think about was her blood. And that all of it was mine, that it belonged to me. And that I’d kill anyone who got in my way.
My brain couldn’t comprehend anything else.
“Avalyn,” Nikolai growled before he tore me away from my human.
I looked at him in anger before I pushed him away and jumped on my human again. She was trying to escape from me. Me!
“You’re my fucking slave. You belong to me. Your blood belongs to me.” I hissed and before my fangs could puncture her skin again, I was pulled back.
Nikolai had his arm around my waist as he pulled me away. No matter how much I thrashed or how much I hit him, he didn’t budge.
“Avalyn, stop!” He snapped and then suddenly, my body stopped. I couldn’t fucking move anymore.
The collar! It was because of the collar.
My hand raised up to remove it but it burned my skin and I pulled away with a shriek.
“Remove this thing right now!” I snapped at Nikolai.
“Snap out of it Avalyn!” He commanded again.
I blinked and then suddenly I was back to reality.
My eyes widened and I twisted in his hold to see Tessa lying on the floor, bleeding to her death. I gasped, “release me Nik, let me heal her!”
The second he did, I was next to her, using my powers to heal her. What just happened? How could I ever do this? Why did I do this? To Tessa of all people!
“I’m so sorry. I’m sorry.” I cried. Half of her neck was ripped out. My fangs were so deep in when Nikolai pulled me away that I had bit out a huge chunk of it. She was lying in a pool of her own blood, obviously unconscious. “Tessa!”
I had healed the wound but she still wasn’t waking up. I had also increased the amount of blood in her body but she still was unconscious. Half dead.
Will she die? Did I kill her?
I looked at Nikolai through my tears.
“She’ll live, Love.” He whispered, not taking his eyes off me. “She just needs to rest.”
“You, on the other hand… your eyes were red. You were drinking blood…”
“Faes don’t drink blood, do they?” Fear reared its ugly head when I saw the expression on Nik’s face. I know him like the back of my hand. And right now, his mind is running a hundred kilometres per second. He knows what happened. And he is scared that whatever he is thinking is really the truth.
“They don’t,” he whispered. I remained silent, wanting him to continue. “Only vampires do.”
“But I’m not…”
“Xillian sucked out most of your blood. Your body was filled with Javier’s blood. A vampire’s blood. And then you died.” He spoke but it was like he wasn’t even here. He was far away in his thoughts. Everything he was saying was the truth.
To turn someone into a vampire, you have to suck most of their blood out and feed him a vampire’s blood before killing him. If he is strong enough, he wakes up as a vampire. And once he feeds on a human, the transition is complete. I did all of that. Unknowingly.
But supernaturals can’t turn into vampires. Only humans can. Right?
“You’re a hybrid now, Avalyn.” Nikolai’s voice broke me out of my thoughts. “First of a kind. The only one in the entire universe.”
