My eyes snapped at Eliyah who slumped against the wall, clutching his throat. “Stop lazing around and stand up straight.” I snapped. “We have a criminal to find.”
Eliyah jumped to his feet. “I didn’t do anything, K-King Nikolai.” He said, his voice horse. And sadly, it was the fucking truth. Who the fuck did it then?
“N-Nik.” Ava whispered so lightly that I barely heard it.
I motioned Eliyah to stay here with my fingers. I’m not going to let him out of my sight and then rushed to Ava’s side. “Yes, Love?”
“I-I don’t feel well. Please stay with me.” Her head rested on my chest and her arms came around my waist.
“I’m right here, Love. Do you want to take a shower first?” She will feel better if she is fresh.
“I can’t stand up.” She whispered.
“No worries.” I whispered. I picked her up and took her to the shower area and turned on the water at a comfortable temperature. I sat her down on the bench and took a washcloth, wet it with water, poured some body wash over it and began cleaning her up. Tessa helped too.
After we were done, I helped her up against my body with one hand and stood with her under the water. I caressed her body clean of the soap with my free hand and Tessa helped with the areas I couldn’t reach.
“I need to brush too.” She whispered after we were done.
“Okay.” I replied before I sat her on the bench and turned off the water. I took a towel and dried her up before I took another towel and quickly dried myself and then wrapped it around my waist for Tessa’s sake.
I was about to pick her up again but she shook her head. “I can do it.” And then she stood up but stumbled a bit. I immediately caught her.
“I can do it, Nik.” She mumbled stubbornly.
“I know, I just want to help you. Please.” I kissed her forehead. I placed my arm around her waist and supported her up as she slowly walked to the sink.
Tessa had her toothbrush out with the paste already on it and handed it to her.
Ava took it and brushed her teeth, swaying a bit. But I stood behind her and kept a firm hold on her. She wanted to do it on her own, fine. But we will do it my way. And Ava thankfully didn’t argue.
After she was done, she was seriously swaying a lot so I scooped her up, ignoring her weak protests. Her was getting cold as opposed to her heated temperature earlier. I placed her on the bed and took the nightgown Tessa handed me and put it through her head and arms. It reached the middle of her thighs. I took the panties but Ava shook her head and lied down, her eyes closing.
I wore a fresh set of clothes quickly before focusing on Eliyah who was still standing by the bathroom.
“Nik…” Ava mumbled, her hands searching for me on the bed.
I got in the blanket besides her but instead of lying down, I sat up straight on the bed against the headboard. Ava’s arm and leg came around my legs, her cheek pressed against my thigh on the bed. I placed my hand over her head and caressed her hair.
A sigh of relief left Ava’s lips and I heard her heartbeat steadily.
After I was sure she was asleep, I looked at Eliyah and pointed at the floor by my side.
Clenching his jaw, he came so my bedside and kneeled. I had heard of his defiance but saw none of it right now.
“Where did you get the water from?” I whispered, not wanting Ava to wake up.
“The cooler, King Nikolai,” he replied truthfully.
I sighed. I was angry and I released my anger on him because I needed someone to blame. Eliyah was easy target. But Ava has been sick yesterday and day before yesterday too. Evening must have been just a good patch or something. And she puked before she even had the water. Plus, I had the water, it was alright. I know it wasn’t the water.
“I might have taken my anger out on you without thinking clearly.” I cleared my throat. That was all the apology he will get.
He looked up at me fiercely before he spoke in a fervent voice, “thank you for believing me. I would never hurt her. I would kill a thousand people and die a thousand times over than hurt her.”
I believed him. I know he was saying the truth. His loyalty was surprising. I shouldn’t be though. Ava has a way with people.
“You can leave now. Both of you.” I told the humans.
“Respectfully, Alpha, I would like to stay here till Mistress is okay.” Eliyah replied and Tessa nodded in agreement.
“Fine. You can take a seat.” I waved my hand towards the seating area on the side and the the chairs on the small table-wherever they wanted, I didn’t really care.
With a bow, both of them went and took a seat.
